I'm a massive ****! I'm 19 and started work since July 2013 and down £1900 on football bets... I absolutely hate football bets, I feel sorry for myself for putting myself in an awful situation, I need to win and run away from the bookies! Basically I've lost 4 major big money bets in a row!!! I've gone all out to win my money back after all this stress with a £2700 double bet on Derby County to beat Brighton over 2 legs and reach the final and Arsenal to lift the FA Cup Trophy in anytime... I'm a spurs fan, its desperate times... Betting on Tottenham started this MESS!!! Please do me a favour, I was contemplating suicide the last best I lost on the Brazilian league Sao Paolo & Santos home wins! COME ON THE RAMS!!!

Wow that was painful to watch, felt mentally sick watching that! Thanks to everyone for the support. Promised a couple co-workers I stop betting now, my personal rehab starts now by simply not betting! Good luck in the final, hopefully you'll be coming down to the lane for some premiership football next season. All the best. Charlie x

True to my word, I was thinking of your bet as I watched the final. Must admit my first thought was that the draw meant you'd lost and I was quite concerned.

But I had a vague recollection that you'd said that the result was after penalties. From the sound of things, it seems it all turned out well.

This time.

If you haven't already sought help, please do it now.

And, now it's done, tell your parents precisely what happened, how close it was and how you now need them to pull you into line when you're tempted. I know that sounds humiliating but I can guarantee your parents have noticed something was bothering you and their imagination has probably been running wild. Who knows, maybe they knew all along and were waiting for you to ask for help. (It wouldn't be hard to work out now; they'll see your relief and work out how it mysteriously arose straight after the Cup final!

I hope you've learned three lessons from all of this:

1. You're an absolutely tish house punter and you need to avoid it!

2. When you reached out to your workmates and told them what was happening, they showed how concerned they were. The guy (I think it was a guy) who kept tabs on you and talked you through it all sounds like a keeper of a mate.

3. When you (anonymously) reached out to complete strangers on this site, everyone demonstrated how good people are. How almost all people tried to offer you support and advice. You found out even strangers will help out a lad in trouble. Well, almost all strangers...always one or two who may not rise to the occasion.

Good luck to you, young fella! You lucked out yesterday but it will all be for nothing if you don't learn from it. And, believe me, the earliest stages are the easiest.

Happy for you. Don't bet and don't even look the odds anywhere. Now it is the time to walk away from this. Just enjoy sport as a sport.

No offence Ladyram and BahrainRamSal, I appreciate you liking my post but I was disappointed to see it was you two and not young Charlie. He seems not to read it yet.

I hope he does come back and read it, and Cisse and NSR's posts too. The young bloke has had a terrible scare; I just hope he's experienced enough to learn now.

My father has been a bad punter all his life. Even after a minor bit of legal trouble as a result as a young man didn't convince him. He managed to re-mortgage my mother and his home in his late 60s to the tune of $180,000 to $200,000. We, his children, had to bail him out so our mother wasn't homeless in her retirement.

And he STILL blamed his employer for their financial plight for forcing early retirement on him...not his punting. The worst mistake a punter - or a drug addict or alcoholic for that matter - can make is to underestimate how insidious their addiction is.

Young Charlie, if you do return occasionally to visit your friends on this site and you read these posts, please think about what all of us have been saying. I don't (and nor do others) reveal such personal details lightly. We do it because we're concerned; it's obvious you're a good lad and a smart one at that. Having this weakness and mastering it could be the making of you.

I'm sorry to hear about having to bail out your father so that your mother would have a home in her retirement. End of the day, you can offer all the advice in the world, but it is down to that person to be that change. We all have our demons and addictions.

Been there, done that, walked away. Glad this guy seems as though he's managed to too.

I still have a gamble now and again, but my limit now is £50 in the casino 3 or 4 times a year and one day at Leopardstown races (tenner a race) - and for the last 10 years, I've happily kept to that.

Good advice from you RamDon - and without sounding patronising, I hope you make the right choice, Charlie.

Wow, I have to say RamDon is a top man. Respect you've come out and revealed something personal publically to give me and possibly others a massive wake up call regarding betting. Was supposed to be my farewell wishing you all the best, but reading the great support and advice from RamDon, sounds like he really put his heart and soul into them posts, I had to post again and I'll probably come back, your all great people.

I'm sorry to hear what you've been through because of gambling, gambling looks like it destroyed your fathers life. You've seen the people closest to you ruin their life through gambling, it's a very nice humble thing to do to help a stranger out on the internet and try your best to stop people going down that route. I've taken a lot on board from what you've said.

I haven't told my parents though, they did have suspiciouns. Well my dad threatened to turn the TV off because I was screaming during the first leg of Brighton Vs. Derby and said "you've put a bet on haven't you?" I replied "It's none of your business" Again as I've said before my parents only know me losing £300 which they were very upset about. They wouldn't have imagined me betting anywhere near a grand. Scarily enough my mum said I had a dream you put a bet on Arsenal to win after the game, and my Dad said " How much did you win?" after the FA Cup Final because I kept going on about how Arsenal will smash Hull who have no chance.

Derby County fans are incredibly a nice bunch, my mate at work who is a Leeds United fan said if you went on a Leeds Forum you'll get slated and get called a **** various times regarding my situation and they would have no sympathy for me. To be honest, when I signed up I was expecting something along the lines "Betting is a mugs game, no sympathy for idiots who piss their money away on bets" the support has been incredible, didn't know much about Derby County before my bet. After watching Derby County Football Club, 1st Leg Live and 2nd Leg Goals on Youtube I can truly say you guys play beautiful football and hope you guys get promoted to the Premier League. Also after spending time on this website I've found out the Derby County fans are decent, genuine people.

Thanks a lot everyone for the incredible support, its been nice to share my problem with understanding nice people and not feel alone in my terrible situation, thanks again. love you all!
