Derby County v Huddersfield Town

Ref was tough on timewasting: if we'd had him for the Milwall game theyd have had 5 men sent off.

1st red was fair enough he'd been booked already and his tackle could have been a straight red.

2nd red was a pen, but looked a but harsh for a sending off unless it was for 2nd yellow too.

It was a second yellow.

The ref was good on the time wasting.

If millwall would had had 5 sent off, wigan would have had 7!

Ok fair enough they didnt get many yellows but the same two guys got 2 yellows each? Theyre just dumb. We took Fozzy off so he wouldnt get booked.

It was a second yellow - but I think that Pete's point was that the foul was so bad that it deserved a straight red on its own. It happened right in front of me and it was a really vicious studs up lunge that could have ended Bamford's career if things had have panned out slightly differently - definitely should have been a straight red.

Having said that, the yellow for time wasting was a bit harsh on that particular player. He seemed to be trying to take the throw but his team mates movement was too poor, It seemed that the ref had gotten so fed up with the Huddersfield players time wasting that he was itching to book someone and a slight hesitation at a throw gave him the excuse.

Has Eustace played a ball like that at any time this season? Excellent from Thorne, fully justified starter now. The midfield in general outclassed theirs, which says a lot because none of them really played outstandingly. Russell and Martin put in usual performances, both played well and got their goal's. I really saw the criticisms of Bamford today, he had a few sloppy touches. Missed two chances where he was through on goal due to lack of concentration. Expect to see Ward start ahead of him on Friday.

On the ref, it was weird because in-play I thought he gave some weak and easy decisions, but then had a really tough stance on time wasting. Odd.

Could anyone provide a quick review of the game with player ratings?

It looked like we were going to click into gear and win in style.

We got the passing game going but the flicks and touches weren't quite coming off and there were occasional individual errors.

We could have scored after 3 mins when the keeper spilled russells effort following brysons free-kick but keogh put the rebound well over the bar from 6 yards.

Russell put a free kick at least 10 foot over the bar - Bamford-style - before huddersfield took the lead against the run of play.

adam clayton played it wide, Darren Ward beat forsyth for pace before delivering the ball across the 6 yard box, where Wells tapped it home as Wisdom dozed off at the far post.

Derbys equaliser owed everything to a superb through ball by george thorne.

Possibly the pass of the season picked out russell beating the offside trap and he finished superbly with a single touch.

Huddersfield had been prone to time-wasting and the thuggish Lynch paid the price when he was booked for delaying a throw-in, and was then second carded for a brutal block on Bamford.

The game was set for Derby to take over in the second half.

5 minutes after the break, Forsyth took on and beat the fullback before scooping the ball over only for the Huddersfield keeper - the normally impressive Smithies - to divert the ball into his own net.

Good play put will hughes through in the box and the trip resulted in a penalty and a second red.

This time Martin made no mistake from the spot.

Derby were in a commanding lead without having yet engaged top gear.

Ward replaced Bamford and started to threaten. Hendrick replaced Thorne and sprayed the ball out to flanks in similar fashion.

But the Rams settled for three and the game fizzled out with a degree of anti- climax.

Nevertheless a great win at this stage of the season.

Grant 7 wisdom 7 forsyth 8 keogh 7 bucko 7 thorne 9 hughes 7 bryson 7 martin 7 russell 7 bamford 6

Just got back. Good summary but rather generous with the marking. We were casual and lazy today as if it would be easy to beat Huddersfield. In truth they battled hard after going down to 9 and we really didn't take advantage. They gifted us goals 2 and 3. I would take a mark off each and 2 off Martin who was worth 5 only by dint of his penalty. The four paces he took to blast that in was about the most he moved all day. The falling to the floor routine is getting tiresome and refs are wise to it. Thorne was a class above our other midfield players who looked ponderous and sloppy.

Bamford 6. Oh please! What exactly did he contribute to the game? He is absolute mince. Keogh 7? I presume if he hadn't tried his best to gift them a second goal plus sky a 6 yarder over the bar it would have been a 10? Agree with Thorne, different class in terms of positional play, closing down space and a sublime pass for first goal.

Rams played against 9 men for about 1/2 hour. Anyone got thoughts on that and why we did not score against so few players?

relaxed a little pushed forward still but their keeper made a couple of top class saves if we had given it 110% we would have scored a few more

Because we didn't need to and none of our players fancied getting inured or even sent off. It also didn't help that today's two most creative players, Thorne and Forsyth, went off.

No point pushing at this stage of the season. Result secure, get the team through without injuries. We need everyone fully fit and raring to go for the play-offs (unless a collapse from Burnley). Maybe it was dull but it was a sensible dull.

Ok cool. Agree with that. Points secured...think of playoffs.

Forsyth was on a 9 bookings , was taken off as after today bookings get wiped out and start counting again. If he got booked again he could have got suspended.

Taking Fozzy off and bringing Naylor on removed an attacking threat and left Sammon on the bench. The last thing Uddersfiled would have wanted playing 9 men against someone who cahses everything like Sammon does.

We didnt really capitalise hope that doesnt cost us and we fail to get autos on goal difference.

Their Keeper made amends as well with decent saves and the game fizzle out.

Thought our defence looked a little shaky today when it was 11 v 11.

How Bucko didn't give away a penalty and get sent off for for hauling down their striker as he was clean through on goal is beyond me.

Keogh did his best to present them with a second when they were one up.

Wisdom managed to destroy any attack down the flank he was involved in by failing to cross or pass the ball very well.

Forsyth was excellent going forward but got skinned for their goal, which Granty hardly covered himself in glory for.

Anyone - B4 - who thinks we don't get decisions from the ref should have been there today - we got everything other than him picking the ball up and sticking it in their net himself. Even the second yellow for the penalty was harsh. It was a foul no doubt but a booking? I don't think so.
