I would suggest that if McLaren's Dad settled for a blow job only the night he was conceived we may have never made the Premier League before with Jim Smith. Who know's where we would be now?

I would suggest that drawing at home to Blackburn and losing at home to Burnley and Leicester and Reading at the start of the season did not get us off to a good start at all when we the Fans were full of optimism !

Put that in your pipe and smoke it lol

Yes but you could argue that if we had, say, beat Blackburn and one out of Burnley, Fester & Reading then we'd have been a few points better off, a few places higher up the league and Nigel May still have been in a job...

think his days were numbered after the Reading game. The Leicester and Forest games just nailed it.

Possibly but with the home form a little stronger Rush would've found it harder to get rid of him...

Probably, but I think Rush would of got rid of Clough anyway. He knew it would be a unpopular decision so if we wasn't close enough say at Christmas..... (6/7 points off) would think we would of changed managers then. Just my opinion.

Burnley fan here, utter garbage and bitterness here. We play hoof ball? that is nonsense, we mix it up very well and play through the units quickly, with all different options. The game between us at TM this season wasn't the best and we were average at best, but like all the good sides do, we deservedly took home the 3 points and found a way to dig in and win when not at our best.

Under Dyche we have played some of the best football I have seen us play in my lifetime, football that surpasses the football we witnessed under Coyle (which was also very good.) Okay yes, once or twice this season we have had an off day and have lumped it too Vokes to often, and it's no surprise that in the games we have done that, we have lost (Huddersfield away, Leicester at home)

We're not a team suited too long ball, Ings isn't good in the air neither is Barnes.. stop judging us based on an average 90 minutes against yourselves and to say we was a long ball side at Pride Park when we beat you 3-0, embarrassing and obviously bitter.

Enjoy the play offs, new manager syndrome has worn off and your results have took a hit, was only a matter of time before you faded and us and Leicester ran away with promotion.

Oooo sorry bigman

As it stands right now.

If we win everything and they capitulate drastically, then we can go up second.

But let's be honest, that's not gonna happen.

I'll think we'll have a good run in, but I do see a few upsets before the end.

They're worthy of second place.

Chatting to some mates in the pub last night and we were saying that we're looking forward to the play offs and we deserve to be in them, but even if we finished clear 3rd, we don't feel we have clear bragging rights over the teams below us this year.

I've loved this season, but play offs are never ever certain and so it's best just to go into them (as a fan) grateful for the experience.

As much as we're all kissing Burnley's bum, I wonder what the league would look like if it started at the Ipswich game when Steve first came in?

All pure speculation, but it's interesting to think that maybe, if we had Steve since the start, we'd be talking about 1st still being on.

PS I am a big Clough fan, so don't start, but I'm pretty sure the form table from Steve's start put us second last time I looked (but that was a couple if weeks ago).

So when you say Burnley are the better team over a season, that's true, but you're effectively comparing them to two teams. When compared just against Steve's team, I think we are the better team.

So **** Burnley I say. What the **** is this ******* Burnley love in all about anyway :)

Very true, you could also make that point for Wigan too.. I'd also make a case for us picking up more points since you got MClaren. As has been said already, it's a very fine line and if you miss out you will miss out with a total that would of got you promoted in most seasons, which is unfortunate and which is why I hope you go up through the play offs.

Just been searching around for something that will do the league between certain dates.

Below is the table from 1st October, so including the Ipswich result.

Surprising to see that since the start of the year, Sheffield Wednesday have been better than us by 2 points.

Here's the website I found, pretty easy to use to put in your own dates and different options.

Nice find there.. out of interest is there a table since you got Mac??? would be interesting.

Or QPR were in a false position and so were we due to how the fixtures came out of the hat.

That post made me chuckle, every season we would hear; next year is the one we will make the play offs and every year we failed, the excuse then becoming but we did better than last year.

Now its the fixture lists fault that we once again languished in mid table.

I'd hardly call 9 games in languishing when most if the points dropped were against teams in the top 6 at the moment (Leicesters, reading and Burnley). Replace those three with other teams and it could have been different (just like QPR fixtures at the start were against teams in the bottom half and look at where they were and where they are now)

All ifs and buts. Though interestingly since we lost to Burnley, Bournemouth have been the best team in the league followed by Burnley and Leicester. Derby have slumped to being a mid table also ran. All the other teams currently in play off positions have had better form than us. We seem to forget that we have only won 3 games out the last 8! No idea if Burnley are a better footballing team than us as only seen them play live once but they are certainly far better at picking up points than us.

All those pictures are the table from January.

Interesting though that Cloughs 9 games in charge yielded 11 points.

Since January SM has 24 points from 18 games. not much in it points per game wise (in fact 1 point per 9 games) compare these because both periods include matches against Leicester, Burnley and Reading which Clough dropped points against and so didSM.

Leicester both lost

Burnley both list

Reading clough list SM drew

Millwall Clough won SM lost

Yeovil Clough won Steve Won

Bolton - both drew

Forest Clough lost Steve Won

Brighton - both won

Clough 10 points SM 11 points

SM games in charge 32 points 61 For every 9 games that is 18 points.

However Clough faced half of the current top 6 (the top teams over all season) and in the other 6 matches picked up 11 points (almost 2 points per game) Reason to believe Clough could have matched SM results since he took over. Also reason to believe that fixture order does have an effect.

The difference is the results against the bottom teams in between. Would we have win as many with Clough in charge? Who knows but it's likely given the parity of results on comparative matches.

We had won 3 games out of 9, the season was already taking shape in replicating the previous 2, we had once again been dumped out the cup by a lower placed team, and we had just lost to one of the worst florest sides in many a year.

most of the points dropped were at home, and yet it is still perceived by some, that we would do things we hadnt in the previous 5 years, win more than we lost, win more than 4 on the bounce, and finish higher than 10th.

Possible yes, realistic no.

We'd taken 11 points from 6 games (not including current top 6 teams) that's third place form that is.
