STRIKER Theo Robinson hit a hat-trick as a Derby County XI beat Buxton 4-1 at Silverlands this afternoon.

Robinson (pictured) also had a hand in Derby's other goal, scored by Michael Jacobs.

Former Chesterfield midfielder Derek Niven replied for Buxton, who play in the Evo-Stik League Premier Division.

Robinson was one of five players in the team who has been made available for transfer, the others being Nathan Tyson, James Bailey, James O'Connor and Tom Naylor.

Derby opened the scoring after 10 minutes when Jacobs curled in a free kick and Robinson headed in from close range.

Robinson's second goal arrived 14 minutes later, and again from close range as he turned in Tyson's low centre.

Poor defending at a corner allowed Buxton to pull a goal back around the half hour. Niven found space in the box to clip the ball home from eight yards.

Derby needed only five minutes to regain their two-goal cushion.

Jamie Hanson, captain for the day, hit a fine raking pass to pick out Robinson on the right, Robinson delivered a low centre and Jacobs applied the first-time finish from six yards.

Buxton defender Sam Egerton saw his volley clip the outside of a post shortly before the break and substitute Mark Reed was denied a goal when Saul Deeney went full stretch to save his penalty in the 75th minute after O'Connor brought down Craig King.

Robinson completed his hat trick 10 minutes from time when he pounced on a poor back pass, took his time and slotted the ball low past Andy Warrington.

BUXTON: Warrington; Black, Green (Johnson, 77), Istead, Egerton, Ryan, Stevens (Osborne, 46), Niven (Heywood, 77), Morris (Reed, 46), Thornhill, King.

Other sub: Stanway.

DERBY COUNTY XI: Deeney (Etheridge, 80); Naylor, O'Connor (Lelan, 77), Hanson (Berry, 77), Hoganson; Robinson, Bailey, Dawkins, Jacobs (Wixted, 61); Bennett (Dales, 61), Tyson.

Referee: B Smallwood (North Derbyshire)

My mate played for Buxton against our lot today, obviously don't know if he's telling the truth completely but he had Naylor's pants down more often then not when they went head to head. Also got the better side of O'Connor on a few occasions including the penalty foul. Said that both were awful.

It does sound as if the quality in our final third was the difference though, Jacobs being the stand out player according to him.

5 divs difference. He should stand out at that level.

I can see Leeds going in for him, they haven't got a striker - saying that, neither have Blackpool really!

Was thinking about Blackpool myself.

Ince was complaining yesterday that he hadn't been able to work on patterns of play cos he'd signed no players. He's lost three of his back four and isn't sure whether Gary Taylor Fletcher is staying or going.

Christ for 600k he could have ALL of  Bailey, Theo, Tyson and O'Connor, they've all played together, got a great understanding already and could form the spine of his side.

Always thought of Ince as a good judge. Come on Paul pick up the phone.
