Within minutes of Di Canio's appointment David Miliband, the former senior Labour party MP, resigned from his position as vice-chairman and non-executive director of the club because he does not agree with the Italian's political views.

Di Canio has admitted to having fascist leanings, telling Italian news agency

ANSA in 2005: "I am a fascist, not a racist."

Awful appointment, an absolute **** and I genuinely pray Sunderland don't have any jewish players because the guy is made of the same stuff as Hitler - I wouldn't want to play under him, an awful appointment indeed.

I respect David Miliband whole heartedly for leaving his role!

David Miliband has resigned from the board of Sunderland FC following the appointment of Paolo Di Canio as manager, owing to Di Canio’s ‘past political statements’. A man of dodgy allegiances and a suspicious political background, David Miliband is a former Labour Cabinet minister.

I thank you.
