Birmingham captain Steven Caldwell may return, having missed Tuesday's draw with Blackpool through illness but subsequently returned to training.

Left-back Mitch Hancox misses out with a hamstring injury while striker Marlon King (knee) is expected to be out for the rest of the season.

Derby hope to have midfielder Craig Bryson (groin) fit again to ease Nigel Clough's substantial injury problems.

Defenders James O'Connor (knee) and Mark O'Brien (knee) both miss out.

MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head

• Substitute Nathan Tyson bagged the winner six minutes from time when Derby beat Birmingham 3-2 in the reverse fixture in November. It's 64 years since the Rams did the league double over Birmingham.

• Blues have now lost two of their last three league matches with Derby, having previously gone seven without defeat.

• These clubs shared 10 goals in the corresponding fixture in April 1966 in the old Second Division. Neither club has been involved in a higher scoring draw in their league histories.

Birmingham City

• Birmingham lie four places and five points above the drop zone, with one win in six Championship outings.

• Lee Clark's side have only won five home league matches all season.

• They also have the worst record against fellow Midlands clubs in the Championship, with just one win from five games.

Derby County

• Mid-table Derby are on the longest current winless run in the Championship of seven matches, having drawn four and lost three since a 3-0 triumph over Huddersfield on 2 February - their only win in 10 league games.

• Nigel Clough's side is one of six in this division yet to win away from home in 2013.

• The Rams have gained the most points of the five clubs involved in Midlands derbies in the Championship - nine from six matches.
