Starting a game trying not to lose, (even trying not to lose by too many) against a team that has shipped 7 goals in 2 games is a guarantee of a bad outcome. We were way, way, way too cautious, with no-one capable of a defence-splitter, and no-one able to stretch the Peterborough back-line. So 0-0 at half time was a good achievement. What that first half needed was a Sibley. And then CKR is badly injured - Rooney was almost in tears at that point.
But something good has come from it - Stretton played really well. I know there have been plenty on here criticising the kid, but if we didn't expect him to play the big, bruising centre-forward role, maybe we wouldn't be disappointed. What Stretton did do was play like a natural striker. Every time the ball was crossed into the box he was right there close to here the ball was heading. And when the ball dropped near him he scored a true striker's goal. Keep him playing like this and he will score loads. Try to turn him into CKR won't work.
Re the collapse - there are shed-loads of people on here sticking the knife into Sibley at every opportunity, but it is clear that we are nothing without him. I was shouting for a foul on him, not the other way round. He thought it was a clear foul, hence handling the ball. Perhaps he isn't aware that we only get crap refs, because during that part of the match, every time we got the ball in midfield we were getting brought down. He is therefore blamed for the goal which came from the free-kick, but in reality once the kick is taken, the team has to defend properly and they failed abysmally, especially Joswaick. Yet again, loads of people are critical of the Pole, yet it is somehow politically incorrect to criticise him. I don't now why - he still still making the same errors he got flack for last season. Can he not learn?
I am surprised that no-one has mentioned "Fergie Time"! Actually I for one am not too bothered by it, because most of that came from CKR's injury. The biggest worry is that we seemed to be out on our feet at the end - how can we be tired out this early in the season? I reckon that we had lost the game in our heads the moment the equaliser went in.
Where too from now? I have no idea. Any suggestions?

This is pretty much a first from me after all these years on the site. Its a very rare venture into commenting on the matchday thread.
I dont usually comment because im too emotionally involved in the outcome and get far too knee jerk in my post match reactions with either a win or a loss.
Huge hug to all my fellow Rams fans right now. A pandemic to deal with, total lock down for most so the excitement of finally getting out and about and for some even going to a stadium to watch a game.
And what do we get? Dross.. utter dross. Today was a bit of a final straw for me and I feel a need to comment.
Its actually truly shambolic. Us older ones have seen sustainable shambolic performances before so we know it when we see it.
For example... the goal kicks that now Curtis takes sideways to Roos. A cunning plan of extraordinary measures.. or just admitting our goal keeper is a better kicker than our defenders.
Why.... WHY have we got 4 holding midfielders?!!! Ravel, Billy Backwards, Graham ” The Trap ” Shinnie and Capt Tom all played there today. Its feckin retarded. I dont even understand where this particular ” plan” comes from. You would assume that Rooney remembers how they set up at United in his playing career. Cant remember Scholes, Butt, Beckham and Cantona all playing holding mid...at the same time...in the same game. You would also assume Rooney and side kick watch other games both live and on telly. I cant recall one team in the history of modern football playing 4 holding mids! This plan we have must be genius huh?
Lawrence being made captain!! Again... I assume they reckon giving him leadership responsibility will up his game.
Tell you what a leader does. When we get a penalty in a pre season friendly, the leader figures out its a good idea to give the chance to score to young Stretton. Try to up the lads confidence and get his goal scoring for first team up and running. But no... our leader decides its a good time to show off and take a fancy peno.
I could go on for hours. Its just too painful in relative terms. They are even laughing at us!
Again.huge hug to you all. Try to enjoy the rest of the weekend.
Us older ones also remember a team being put together of players you didnt know or had hardly ever heard of in the late 60s who went on to conquer the land. We can dream.

So similar to last season. Our ability to throw games away is just mindblowingly incredible.
Game management is poor, defensively we switch off, don't win headers, don't track runs, mess about with the ball, Roos unbelievably casual with the ball. A game we needed to win. Lawrence is Captain?? Talk me through that....how is he leading that team?
Worries me that Rooney will hang around, lose a few games, then throw the towel in having brought in a few players on loan other people wouldn't fancy.

I know we keep saying it but we need a change in mindset, coaching and approach to our football and I'd expect an immediate upsurge in all aspects of our game if they took over.
And they are already here,on the books.
What have we got to lose.
If we don't roll the dice we are down anyway.

    No,they all deserve it i.m.o.
Rooney had been let down by his bosses but he took on a job he isn't qualified or suited to at this stage of his career and he seems unable to learn from his mistakes whilst managing and coaching which is even more to our detriment.
His worst aspect however is his misguided self belief and he won't admit it's too big a job for him and walk away.

Can't blame Rooney at all. Look at what he's been dealt with? The blame is solely at Morris and Pearce's doorstop. They deserve the anger not Rooney

we're done aren't we. Might as well start singing 'we're going down' and embrace it. First half was pretty dire from both teams, we had all the tempo of a walking football team and the penetration of a 1,000 year old rusted sword. Partly due to the strange decision to ensure our most creative players pick the ball up in the defensive third and focus all our attacking energy on the right hand side thereby leaving CKR isolated. It's not going to work, it looked sh** in pre-season and it looks sh** now. Defensively, we looked rocky the few times peterborough mustered the quality to string a few passes together but fortunately they were few and far between.

Second half it opened up and we abandoned our very odd horseshoe tactic. There was some tempo and as Sibley got on the ball we looked more likely to make something happen. The middle of the park was there for us to run into ensuring a solid counter but very rarely did we actually do much in terms of chance creation. Another goal from a set piece but from open play just like last season we really struggle to actually create real chances.

The lack of a backbone for the last 20 minutes was absolutely appalling and downright shameful. I thought at the very least they'd have acquired one given the events off the pitch but apparently not. First goal was the result of about 3 different errors; Stearman screwing the header, Kamil not tracking and Byrne on his heels not following the man in. Then it was all Peterborough as we were completely panicked and were unable to cope. Second goal again the result of at least 2 blunders from Davies and Bird getting in each other's way and then Byrne making an absolute hash of it. But Peterborough deserved the win overall, they offered more going forward and although they are very shaky at the back they did one thing we didn't... they never gave up.

I wish the prediction league table was still a thing as unfortunately got both the first two results correct.

I’m afraid so too. It’s already started on the Joz thread. Ed Dawes kept harping on about the error .. that man positively relishes bad news.

But for the errors that could have been a reasonably comfortable 0-1 away win and we would have been full of ourselves. We were better than them and shot ourselves in the foot. That’s not the manager

I'm hanging my entire hope on a take over, new manager with ambition and a few players.
Imagine if we got took over and they put someone like wilder in charge. Even alex neil and a few signings would lift this club.
We are the media whipping boys. Ex players and managers laughing at us on sky, bbc, talk sport, twitter.
    Desperate stuff.

Any other year, any other season and any other set of circumstances and Wayne would have been sacked or would have walked.
But this is going to grind on until we are relegated,it's a never ending football nightmare with not a glimmer of hope for us.
What's our record for losing consecutive league games, surely can't be many more than 17 can it?

Can blame the manager and coaching staff for that pathetic first 45 minutes with the way he’s trying to play. Also it’s in a manger to distill mental strength joe many games since Rooney has took over have we conceded and then conceded straight after that today Swansea other games from last season. I quite like your posts Roy but you are as bad as Eric Steele in that you won’t hear a bad word said about Rooney when he’s just as much to blame as others.

your saying your fine with a manager winning 1 in 17 games

Mate,if the tactics and set up don't click then the game plans going to go to rat poo and errors are going to start slipping in..it puts the team under massive pressure and they begin to panic and starting making poor decisions.
You don't get those mistakes when the team knows what it's doing, everyone knows their role and confidence grows amongst everyone.
It's chaos out there at the moment, players in the wrong roles, defenders attacking and attackers defending,it's a recipe for disaster which is what we are seeing.
17 league matches without a win now isn't it and we are still no further forwards in terms of a cohesive style of play.

Painful. Sibley coming on changed the game when we looked hopeless. He, Stretton and Bird played well. Most of the senior players had shockers. Byrne, Lawrence, Morrison, Forsyth were horrifically bad. Feel for Davies, not much he could’ve done there. Rooney needs to rethink his “style” ASAP.
