We've been victims of a vindictive crusade by the EFL, their statement last night underlines this fact.

    REGRETTABLY they can't relegate us.

Until last night, I wasn't so sure but that statement, blimey. They are supposed to be administrators that follow a set of rules not ones who should 'remain disappointed' or that they 'do not agree that those sanctions are commensurate to the breaches found'. Your rules FFS.

The paragraph below though is the cherry on the icing on the cake, talk about sharpening their knives, it simply did not need to be said. It's bitter and vindictive.

'Once these have been submitted, the EFL will then be required to consider the submissions in reference to the P&S rules and in particular re-assess whether the Club has complied with the requirement to limit losses in accordance with those rules'

I believe that 90% of the posters on here do not understand anything about administration/insolvency.

Which of course wouldn't be a problem if it weren't for the fact that many on that 90% continually worry about and raise the spectre of admin.... ?‍♂️

It seems to me @Sheikh n Bake that you have almost moved away from a fair and reasonable opening question to a stage whereby you are challenging people when they declare their intention to continue to renew regardless (apart from for personal reasons). I don’t know if you’re a bit of a WUM, on some kind of evangelical mission or are simply trying to convince yourself.

You may find it incredulous that some of us will always renew without much, if any, hesitation (and don’t really care much how the price of pies at PP compare with other grounds) but that’s just the way it is.

That's what I'm thinking, otherwise why would you even start the topic? Fundamentally, the fewer people that buy season tickets, the less attractive the club is, the more money it is losing, the lower the standard of player we can acquire. It's some sort of doom mongering self fulfilling prophecy.

It's also the sign of the modern football 'fan', I do yearn for simply times - I started watching as a kid in the 80s, it was part of my life, my routine, that carried on even when I lived in Brighton (there's a club with modern fans!). It connected me with my home town, with my family, with my friends, that's what having a season ticket is all about.

All talk of investment, money, debt, that's a sideshow, for those 90 mins that's what matters, whatever crap is wearing the shirt.

It's one tweet from one account but it does seem to suggest trouble is afoot. We need to sort this all out, and quickly. I know easier said than done but still.

That's a new level of ineptness from the clueless chump - I genuinely have no idea why people continue to give him any credence. He clearly has an alert for any companies associated with Mel Morris, sees it pop up while he's chomping on his cornflakes and Malibu, pops it in a tweet. No matter that he doesn't understand this company has nothing to do with the football club. 'Presumably due to non submission of accounts' nope, that wouldn't happen. It doesn't take that much knowledge to understand that, as others have pointed out, that this is likely a voluntary process. The bloke has been discredited so often, I've no idea why people take any notice of him. Bitter little man.

Have the EFL actually “announced” the teams though? (maybe I’ve missed something). Or it just others saying things like “the teams have been confirmed” meaning the play offs have been completed.

Sort of, not that it means that much but here it is:-

That’s how I read it. The strange thing is that the commission (with accountancy experience), and a succession of auditors, interpreted our method as reasonable. But the EFL and a panel with no accountants didn’t.

In fairness, the summary reads that the panel of lawyers made a decision based on the interpretation of law rather than any accounting matters. That the evidence of the EFL accounting 'expert' should have been allowed. How they then reached a conclusion that had his evidence been allowed then the original DC would have found for the EFL, I don't know but that's what appeal panels do.

  7. At least now we can be pretty certain we'll be in the Championship next year - It's difficult to see how a large points deduction could be imposed but at least we'll know what we're up against. Up the Rams and all.

Obviously every case is different but it took about 3 months from the original 12 point deduction to the appealed 6 point deduction in the SW case

That's why it couldn't be applied to this season, the appeal wouldn't happen in time....

So, the Athletic article (link below) says that Alonso has other “silent partners”...

I asked if one could be Matt Southall...

It's a very 'The Athletic' article - Some insight, some guesswork, very long! I have a problem with some of the claims, for instance:-

"Any change of ownership at the club would give MSD the right to call in this loan, which now totals somewhere between £15-30 million, depending on who you talk to. Whatever the exact amount, MSD can also apply early redemption penalties if it chooses" So we don't know the value of the contract but we know the minutiae of the small print? It's also slightly strange to describe MSD as having a 'choice' over whether to pay early redemption penalties. If that's what the contract says, that's what will happen.

I find this idea that people show each bank statements as proof of funds odd as well. To even profess that a wealthy individual has £65m in his Santander account just sitting there waiting to be spent and would send a screenshot as evidence is a bit naive.

I prefer to accept the opinion of someone who lectures in accountancy and football finance rather than the bar room opinions of non experts, you are confusing capital with liquidity, which despite requests from the EFL for the Spanish kid to deposit funds into a bank account for proof of cash has not happened.

I'm not confusing anything with anything, I'm quoting your hero and pointing out the very obvious error he has made. The thing is, I've made no comment on finances of the 'Spanish kid' as I haven't got a clue about them, that's the difference between me an Maguire - If I don't have the information, I won't pass judgment. My opinion is that I don't have a terribly warm feeling about the 'Spanish kid' but thats based on little more than inference and guesswork, much like Maguire.

Maguire is Senior Teacher in Accounting and Finance at the University of Liverpool Management School, where he teaches the Football Industries MBA. He specialises in financial reporting, financial modelling and football finance

Great. Thanks. And? Way to miss the main point of my post haha! I'll just repost it for clarity:-

If you ever want to know how much of a charlatan Kieran Maguire is, take this nugget from the Telegraph just now:- "If you go to Companies House, No Limits Sports Limited consists of a company which has £2 in its bank account, which isn’t a great start when you’re looking to fund the acquisition" That's the statement of capital not the 'bank account'. My company's is £100, (many are similar, some £1,000), it doesn't correlate to my bank account. Anyone worth their salt knows this.

Actually he is an acknowledged expert and lectures on football finance at Liverpool University, this particular set of quotes was transcribed from his excellent Price of Football Podcast this morning, he does not have it in for DCFC he just gives his expert opinion, and he is good mates with Nick DeMarco who has appeared on his Podcast so he normally gets his facts correct, he also restated this morning the serious doubts he has about the Spanish kid. As a final point he dislikes the EFL intensely and his Pod cast invariably criticises them about numerous issues.

For the record, he's a Brighton fan who has indeed been bitter about DCFC since we smashed them in the play offs, just saying. He teaches accountancy by the way....

In terms of loopholes we have watched

    Leicester city

    QPR

    Bournemouth

    watford

    Birmingham

    Notts florets

    Aston Villa

to name but a few who have circumvented the ‘rules’ to try to be competitive with the parachute payment clubs.

without question we were ultimately affected by those clubs actions and failed on promotion whilst having tiny expenditure in comparison especially QPR Bournemouth and Watford in my opinion.

True - I would add that virtually every club that has been promoted over the last 10 seasons or so has done it while massively over spending and skirting FFP using whichever means and mechanisms they can. We're so exposed because we've failed to make it....

As I posted last night, Sky at the end of that game on Saturday, the commentator said "there may be bleak news on the horizon, but for now Derby have done what they set out to do, stay in this division" or words to that effect.

Sounds to me everyone with sources in the right place know what we are about to face.

I'd read on Twitter last week someone had heard the announcement of a point deduction was today, that was before the papers started reported what they have.

All eyes on the corner flag.

Couple of things - Firstly, even the EFL wouldn't choose to make such an announcement on the first working day AFTER the last game of the season. Secondly, the EFL nor Sky nor anyone else would have prior notice of a decision ahead of the club, therefore wouldn't you find Morris/Pearce/Rooney's reactions after the game a little odd? Finally, the adjudication on the appeal would precede any punishment and surely we would hear about this in that order.

Not true. They can easily appoint their own valuation team and act on their findings if they differ. The true value is the ground it sits on. Who would buy a 2 nd hand football ground???? It’s only worth for a potential buyer is to knock it down and construct retail/offices or flats. The first 2 have zero demand, so flats it is. Probably around 5-10 million quid tops

You'd do yourself a great favour if you went and read the decision - It articulates the methodology for calculating the value of the ground. That methodology is not disputed rather the values (cost per seat if I recall correctly) that are input to the calculation. The club arrived at a total of £80m from that methodology, the EFL (from memory) £30+m using those calcs, 1967Rams came up wtih '5-10 million quid tops' using the fag packet method, the only calculator used was a casio to spell out 'boobies'.
