I have a completely unfounded suspicion that Mel will gift the ground to the City Council and the club will lease it at £1 a year, but with full responsibility for the upkeep.
In this scenario, Gadsby then leads a consortium who put in the minimum amount to exit administration and provide guarantees for the rest. We then spend a few years in League 1 with a shoestring budget, but we've still got a club.

Think if we get liquidated then the TV money which the EFL have been holding onto and is released at the end of the season goes to paying football creditors and then the administrators.

No doubt the statement "was close to a takeover in December" has come from the Ashley camp,he might have thought he was close to a takeover but the administrators didn't. Very much doubt that Ashley will tell why it didn't happen. Perhaps he thought peanuts would buy the club.

It has also been stated in the recent past that football as we know it is not sustainable and a number of clubs will go.

Colour me cynical, but with the Mail and Percy articles yesterday, then Percy with the ‘Ashley still being very interested’ line today…something doesn’t quite add up with it all?
Its more men with money playing games with one another. I for one ,and presumably the fanbase as a whole, are sick of it

There is no way the council will buy the ground when they can't find the funds to run council services as they should.

All the MP's and celebrities can do is a bit of posturing about the plight of the club nothing else.

Would it be cynical of me to think that Ashley hasn't matched/bettered another bidder's offer and this furore over the last few days is an attempt to try to force himself back into the picture?

I wish I shared your optimism.
There are only 2 Clubs that matter in Scotland. Losing Rangers from their system would have killed Scottish Football and ultimately forced Celtic to apply to the English Leagues.
I`m not sure the EFL have that concern where Derby is concerned.
Unfortunately Derby County would only be missed by Derby County Fans ....................and Forest Fans.

    We ain't gonna be liquidated.
Contrary to popular belief, the term too big to fail was actually first made in reference to mid-size second tier football clubs rather than JP Morgan Chase and Goldman Sachs in 2008.

Debts are no problem if they are sustainable, and fit within a business plan that is sustainable.
Preston have assets, stadium, squad etc. They are comfortably safe in L1 (with a very, very outside chance of the play offs), security of Championship status next season with TV revenue, attendances etc.
    Whereas Derby...........
All probability of L1 with -15points, no squad, no real assets. What is the long term?
Taking 15 points and restrictions on investment for at least 2 years could well mean L2 in in 14 months time. I don`t see an attractive proposition in the short to medium term. As for long term? Look how long even Big, well supported clubs can linger in the lower divisions.
Sunderland, Leeds, Ipswich, Portsmouth. Even Forest took 3 years to escape L1 with possibly the biggest budget in the division.
It`s a massive gamble for any buyer at £30m, let alone the £50m required to get hold of the stadium that is vital for generating revenue to support the Clubs financial existence.
The reality is MM has dug a hole so deep that only a Billionaire who genuinely loves the club, is going to pay the amount required to buy the club as it stands today. Something has got give to move it on.

If the bidders are not willing to meet the requirements of paying creditors 25 pence in the £ then the EFL can and will impose further sanctions, that is the precise reason the rules are there,to stop clubs offering less and carrying on without the worry of further penalties otherwise you could have bidders offering just 2 pence in the £ to creditors and nobody could do anything about it.That would cause further damage to the creditors.

Your thoughts don't stack up in real life unfortunately otherwise we'd been acquired long before this.
Obviously investors who are going to put their money where their mouth is don't share your views.

Maybe they’re trying to do their job and, if indeed neither offer satisfy creditors, they are negotiating between the creditors and bidders to perhaps try and get a little more or amend the proposed payment period. Maybe the creditors will accept one of the bids (have the final, final bids actually been submitted to the creditors or do we need to get EFL agreement first, I don’t know) but the EFL want some minor/major amends to avoid the 15 point deduction.
The fact is none of us know but I suspect it’s not quite a case of that’s the final final offer, take it or leave it.

Not sure what it's got to do with the EFL at all?
The rules about administration are pretty transparent it's either up to buyers to meet that amount to avoid a further points deduction or Morris to lower his asking price for the stadium.
Not sure why you keep insisting that it's the EFLs fault or the Covid virus when it's patently clear whom the architect of our potential destruction is.

Don’t you think though, that the club now, and football in general, is nothing like what we grew up loving as kids. Who cares about the corporate monster that it’s become, with its endless pitch side adverts, paying lip service to SKY for peanuts.
Weve got our memories of those days, they can bastardise the game as much as they want, but they’ll never take those away.
Make a new club, make new memories, duck the EFL.

There is literally nothing for the buyers to buy other than the ground and place in league 1 with -15 points.
Depending on what the EFL allows the new owner to buy that could be league 2 a year later.
There are hardly any squat assets to buy.
Does that sound like a £50million club to you for someone with no emotional attachment to DCFC?
