there were times when he didnt even make the starting line up...

He played 44 games in 17/18. You Davies was a good signing but there were periods where he didn't play much while being on a high wage. 21 league goals isn't even 'good' to you?

NML & Hourihane, Wildsmith, what have they acheieved ?

Vydra, cost a lot of money, had one good season but 50% of his goals were pens

Davies, Shinnie, Jagielka, Byrne, didzy, the only good ones since 2015 for me (not including loan players)

I'm not sure how you can't class Vydra as a good signing. Golden boot. sold for a profit. 7 assists as well, and only about 1/3 of his goals were pens not 50%.

pretty much our only good signings since 2015 have been ironically when we didnt have a recruitment team and it was just Liam and wayne...

Since October 2015, I can think of 9 signings that could be classed as 'good', and some are a bit of stretch at that:

Vydra, Davies, Shinnie, Byrne, Jagielka, McGoldrick, Wildsmith, NML, Hourihane.

and 4 of these were signed through Rooney/Rosenior as personal contacts as you say.

Based on what I’ve seen, no.

But how much of that is also down to several players playing in roles that are unnatural to them?

Playing Cashin as a wide centre back, Bird as an advanced midfielder, NML as a central player are all steps that are putting additional strain and confusion on the team.

Exactly. Managers usually do one of two things. Play their preferred system with the players they have, or pick a system that suits the players in the squad. Warnes prioritised system over player suitability and its not working at all.

Who exactly are we (hypothetically?) replacing here?

I'm awfully confused.  Is someone leaving?

Neither the title nor the OP makes it clear!    🤷‍♂️

We are hypothetically replacing anyone you want. You could say you want Rammie replacing if you want.

No one is leaving, but we just lost at home to Oxford United in League One. So we are trying to escape reality through fantasy

Is it the same people in charge of loans at Chelsea since the takeover because Lampard without his loan pull is absolutely turgid.

Claude Makelele is one of their Loan Player Managers, and Terry is back in their academy so maybe he still has some connections, who knows?

  7. 1) Paul Simpson - If we have to spend some of the money from the possible Bird/Cashin sale to get him, do it.

    2) Ian Evatt - Why would he leave Bolton?

    3) Lee Carsley - Its highly unlikely we'd get him. He'd probably have better offers if he wanted to get into club football.

    4) Frank Lampard - Why not? Chelsea probably have a lot of players they want to loan.

    5) Tony Pulis - If we're going to play thug football, at least do it the right way.

There was one of the friendlies where he looked competent in tackles and headers when in the box (ours not theirs 😄 ) can't remember which one.

He was good against Stoke because we were underdogs parked in our own box.

Warnes managerial career has primarily been built on an underdog mentality. Did he ever play teams at Rotherham who sit back and required his team to be on the front foot? His system doesn't transfer to Derby

The system doesn’t play to his strengths, but equally we don’t have the players in the squad to cancel out his shortcomings. We don’t even know if a new system will completely remedy his issues.

Does this system play to any of our players strengths? Apart from Ward and Wilson, they all appear more suited to a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 type system.

Bradley is not the problem at the back at all. Cashin seems untouchable to Rams fans but was absolutely woeful last night. Slow. Ponderous on the ball. Repeatedly dragged out of position.

In experience us part of it because there was very little talking but if somebody offered 500k I'd snap their hand off.

Hasn't Cashin gone through the whole academy system playing in a back 4? Is this the first time he's played in a back 3? because he looks he doesn't know his role at times

I’m mystified why anyone would consider Bird and Hourihane as two of the leagues best midfielders

Why is Bird wanted by Championship clubs then? and Hourihane, who rejected Championship offers to sign for us.

The problem is they're playing in a flat 5 in midfield. They need a CDM, or Bird should play CDM,  so they can get forward more. Hourihanes good a scoring from range and its being wasted.

What did Warne mean in his post match interview on RamsTv when he said "there are possible reasons for the poor performance but that (he) couldn't go into them, obviously"?

Surely that must be about the players being distracted by transfer links again?

Its a bit of a poor excuse. None of the players looked like they weren't putting the effort in.

  13. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm really worried we may have a dud. He's come back from a big injury and his legs look like they may be completely gone. He can barely run. We can't play any high line because he just won't be able to get back. The most concerning thing is he's meant to be the marquee signing who is going to lead the entire defence. I feel like our whole season depends on him in a way.

He looked a lot better against Burton. The Pride Park pitch looks way to big for him. I bet if we played a Prem team in the cup and had to sit in our own box all game he'd be MOTM, but I'm not sure how he works when we're meant to be on the front foot every game.

To reiterate: Oxford were two points from relegation last season and have 3 wins in seven months. Truthfully, they’re s****, it’s what makes tonight even more disappointing. Like watching two teams with brain injuries kick a ball with a bell in. It didn’t look like a professional football game.

In fairness, Oxford have been improving since they appointed Manning. The reason they finished so low was because of the previous manager. Also, Brannagan especially is a very good player at this level. No excuses though, we should still be beating them. They're not outstanding.

Agree with the game summary. Its actually bizarre. I'm struggling to recall any detail of the game at all, and I watched the whole 90mins. It's just a blur of players running into and pushing each other, around the centre circle, with he ball in the air 😆

What’s happened to the high press that Warne said he’d be implementing from day 1? Has he abandoned it due to the players we have? Instead, we only engaged when the opposition got into our half and then just looked to play it long. Absolutely dire viewing.

Brannagan and McGuane are two of the best midfielders in the league. Derby were probably scared they would just pass through them if we pressed high. Saying that, we have Bird and Hourihane who are also two of the best midfielders in the league. We also outnumbered them as we had Smith as well, but there you go...

Exactly..  but the problem is, Warne has gone all out to try and force us to play the system he likes, unfortunately for him, we aren't Rotherham and it just doesn't cut it. We should of signed a proven target man/striker and built around that. Right now, we are literally relying on out RWB to provide our only service, it gets predictable, even in league 1.

You could see Oxford knew exactly what we were going to do from the 1st minute. They doubled up on our RWB and put 2 or 3 players between the cross and the goal to block it. After that our entire game plan disappeared, that's all they had to do.

Warne "Oxford might have just had better players than us".

Derby County, 2023. Get him out.

I can't think of any positive reason for saying that. Similar to his comments after Blackpool about players being distracted by transfer offers. If anything it just puts players off playing for you. He said himself he wants players who would be his mates.

(By the way, the Blackpool Warne kept saying were Championship quality couldn't beat Port Vale at home tonight)

We shouldn't of signed Waggy or Washington imo. 1 of them maybe, but we needed a first choice striker. A statement. As much as they might run through walls for us, it's not that we need. We need a point to our attack.

I'm not sure what any striker could do in the game today. The majority of the game involved scrappy head tennis around the centre circle, and then deep or blocked crosses from almost exclusively the RWB position. What would a new 1st choice striker be able to do? We could sign someone who can hold the ball up, but the only player who'd be near them would be NML as we're playing no other attackers.
