He said after that he just kept his foot in........like....wow...in a not good way......

I'm not being funny but 7th in the constructors championship would be huge for Williams and if Sargent costs them that I'll be pretty annoyed.

Completely agree on impact on the team.....the thing that might enable Sarg to retain his seat is the two upcoming races in the US. If Ric is back at the next race I hope Williams are asking whether Lawson is available.

He's giving off a Latifi level of Wallaholism.

I'm all for giving drivers time, especially when they've come into a team that's not great but if there's a deal to be done to get Lawson for a year Williams really aught to try and do it.

They could even have Sargent as reserve driver if they couldn't face binning him completely. If Logan was in the Marko sphere of influence he'd be lucky to get a drive of a milk float by now.

He needs to go, right now!

OK, back to "it'll be a great race for P2 and P3, yey.

Yeah, Sargent is way nearer the mark than Latifi ever was, and there's usually been a bit of tongue in cheek with that.

I don't generally want drivers to fail, even with baby stroll (who's actually just average rather than bad) it's the daddies cash aspect and seeing how Aston are bleeding constructors points by having him.

Completely agree on Stroll, he did enough in the lower formula to justify his spot and has generally been credible in F1. When you consider ex drivers looking to come back in and who is available in F2 there are very few you could argue have a strong case of being in F1 above Stroll. F2 is a bit like our academy atm, restocking with talent after all the best ones moved away!

You have posted the Latifi comparison before and initially I disagreed as I think Sargent has more about him than Latifi (who was never F1 material). Last few races though Sargent has displayed Latifi levels of hopelessness.

It'll be interesting to see if RB's problems are circuit specific or whether they continue for the rest of the season. If they do continue, it will be similar situation to when Ferrari were caught out a few years back.

Some suggestion it was circuit specific (had to run a high ride height due to bumpy track) and that they should be back on it next weekend. We will know soon enough.

British Touring cars live on ITV4 starting at 11.15 for the whole days racing from Donington Park.

3 BTCC races, F4, Porsche cup, ginnettas, mini cup. Probably more entertaining than Max gently drives around in a haze of orange flares.

And Incycar later tonight - been more exciting than F1 this year and quite a few drivers who have progressed through F1 / F2

Having just binge-read this thread, it seems to have run onto the tracks of several others along the lines of "So why aren't we as good as we should be?" which is of course valid (again) but for me I am more interested here in:

    1) Why does PW keep saying things like this? (i.e. Why does he think it is perfectly reasonable to say it when it appears obviously unhelpful to many of us at least?); and

    2) More bizarrely, what is the significance of "Top 3" as opposed to "Top 2" (automatic promotion) or "Top 6" (play-offs)? Last time I checked, 3rd doesn't get you promoted. Does he mean he can see exactly three teams who are better than Derby can currently be?

Agree with all of this. On 2), Derby had already been beaten by three other teams so it would be difficult to make a case for us being top 3 atm. I also wonder if his comments were off the back of the injuries, if I remember correctly he explained the injury situation and then linked into not top 3 comment? So perhaps a reality check on where the injuries have left the team, at least in Warne's eyes?

Using your hypothesis Warne would have amassed 71 points during the season and would have made the play offs above Coventry & Sunderland.

……………………...I think we’ll just leave it there. 👍

I have tried to be balanced by commenting on the likelihood that a Warne team would have stuttered at some point so 71 point based on ppg over the first 9 games is unlikely.

I think Warne (as well as Taylor as per your orginal post) deserves some credit for Rotherham staying up last season, what do you reckon?

  9. 15 hours ago, Old Spalding Ram said:

Matt Taylor managed to keep Rotherham up last year on the lowest Championship wage bill after six years of the Rotherham yo-yo.

I’m confident of leaving League One this year, Warne’s real test comes the year after. 👍

I agree with the general point and to try and add some balance Warne averaged 1.55 points per game in his 9 games in charge of Rotherham last season (14 points). Taylor averaged 0.97 ppg (36 in 37 games). Taking Taylor's management over a full season gives 46 points so they still escape relegation but only just.

I understand that there are plenty of other factors at play (Taylor didn't handle pre-season and was appointed out of the transfer window plus Warne's teams have a history of stalling / free falling later in the season) but I did want to try and make the point that Warne's brief tenure had an important role in keeping Rotherham up in 22/23.

So how does the number of loanees named in a matchday squad work ?

I thought you could have quite a few loanees at the club but you can only name 5 in a matchday squad ?

If so, that's 1 who will be permanently named as we need a goalie on the bench, so this slightly restricts our other loan signings to 4 in a matchday squad.

McGee GK, Lewis Dobbin, Haydn Roberts , possible striker with Osula gone and maybe 1 other, CB or RB ?

Also have Springett now so only one vacancy in matchday squad.

Didnt Lemmy always reckon Motorhead was a punk band? Remember them in later years touring with UK Subs and the Anti-Nowhere League and I was supposed to see my favourite band the Stranglers support them in Cornwall at the Eden centre till my missus kiboshed that trip for reasons I won't go into!!

He didn't like them being referred to as heavy metal. An often used statement before their first song was 'we are Motorhead and we play rock n roll'.

Thought he made a difference last night, even after giving away a proper baffling free kick where he did literally nothing but the ref saw something.

Played a key role in the winner by working hard to keep the ball in play when it would have been much easier to let in roll out. About 3 seconds later the ball was in their net.

tbh id have waghorn back as he can play in all the attacking positions. Work horse and strong. Sure hes getting on abit but you know what youll get with him. In this league he'd prob do really well . Also the style of play is better for him

I wasn't keen on the idea of Waghorn back at Derby. However, in 17/18 (5 years ago I know) he played alongside McGoldrick and got 16 goals and 11 assists. McG got 8 goals and 4 assists but only played 22 games. I recollect (not certain) that Waghorn took a lot of the set pieces for Ipswich that season which, if right, will skew those figures as he probably won't be doing that at Derby (Hourihane).

Warne must be playing his cards very close to his chest regarding potential transfer targets. Normally there are a number of names being bandied about, due to leaks from those in the know, agents etc.

    This time there is nothing.

There are more rumours about who we are signing on the Cov forum Sky Blues Talk.

The suggestions there include Waghorn (in outgoings discussion) and Scott Twine (in transfer shouts discussion).

We haven't signed many in recent reasons. and the last time we paid a fee for a player in January was Jerome in 2018.

It was such an emotional day and your sentiment is lovely but things like that are in response to circumstances at time.  Perhaps club could put montage of film together and/or get one of my main memories of day being Punjabi Rams drummers on pitch before closest home match date or somethhing. But sorry think march rerun would fall bit flat and hopefully we never need to do it again

What I thought was great at the start of the season was the video they showed pre-game that ran through the highs and lows of last season and then led into the summer signings, the pre-season games and the first couple of games of this season. The club then stopped showing it. Obviously there is a potential to now have a video running for 30 minutes which is not suitable but perhaps an opportunity to take some of the highs and lows from last season and then link onto some of our great high points in the first half of this season? Something to show the reality of where we where just 12 months ago and we are now.

I’m sure David is aiming for around 20 goals this season. 10 years ago when he was in his prime, he only got 8 goals on 63 Championship games for Florists. The third tier is certainly to his liking and if we don’t go up this year, he could fill his boots again next year as he heads towards 40.

17 goals in 22 games on loan to Cov 10 years ago... he loves league 1.
