    Similar story here (kinda)
Re. my earlier point Politicians and the media have a responsibility to get the numbers correct - things have been scary enough over the past two years without inflating the numbers.  Either that or we should all stop watching the news!

And that's a reasonable guess Eddie, similar to my point. But this kind of frustration stems from the belief that the vaccine strategy is effective, the only behaviour that matters and the expectation that everybody should just do the right thing. The vaccination rates are higher than the initial targets too, but we can't be satisfied with that?
Nurses have always been under pressure and the wards have always has significant numbers of people who don't do what they should healthwise. OK at present this has been highlighted.
The comment is of course designed to prove a double standard, it doesn't. You can take covid seriously, look after your health in other ways, respect some aspects of medical healthcare and still be unvaccinated.  The comparison between a healthy person not choosing a vaccine that they are suspicious of vs. Then being treated when seriously ill is facile and not informative.
I suppose I am just sad and frustrated that at times we are being triggered into conflict and tribalism over this issue.
As you say, the comment may even be made up and if so I've been foolish to get caught by the bait.
This thread is important though and I've found it helpful to follow people's thoughts because I just don't see or hear enough debate which has worried me.

Being banned by YouTube is proof of lack of credibility? How are they qualified to judge? Are we happy with this kind of censorship? Not a good development.

Haven't assumed anything, just expressed my feelings about this kind of comment, questioned some motives and proposed some possibilities.  Possibly I go come across arrogant at times, but I try not to and wouldn't want to.

So what is the motivation to make the 'ironic' comment? Likelynto be resentment. Now of course, if you are over-worked,stressed and maybe even traumatised, you are in a threat focused mental state and will blame others. I have no difficulty empathising with that, however as a professional clinician it would help to be mindful of this.   furthermore, having worked in the NHS, I appreciate that mis-management and underfunding of services are a major issue. Maybe my issue should more be with the people who share this kind of comment. It comes across as smugly enjoying the suffering of the patient, to score a point. Not pleasant.
None of us should be so arrogant as assume we are so sure about what is the right course of action. There are major ethical dilemmas here and all some of us want is to promote critical analysis in the face of a dominant view that claims to know best.

Of course I think that is the case. If more people are utilising the NHS resources because they have Covid-19, that means that there are going to be fewer resources available for those requiring hospitalisation for other reasons because the facilities are a finite pot. The deaths of people unable to obtain treatment for whatever reason (slow ambulance response, lack of beds, scared to actually go to A&E because of scare stories) could, in many circumstances, be considered in some cases to be indirectly caused by Covid-19.

Agreed, also, the policy of dissuading people to seek treatment until very breathless was wrong.  Early treatment should have been given greater emphasis

There is the irony. When the EFL received millions of pounds in fines from QPR after their 2014 breach of FFP how much went to the main injured party? Ie DCFC.
yep zero. The EFL kept the lot.

So it seems like the fact here is that 40% of people testing positive for Covid caught it in hospital or were not yet positive when admitted. From this stat, lots of conclusions have been jumped too.
    I'd like to know:
What % of Covid deaths come from this 40% who caught it in hospital.
Of this 40%, what were the death rates by vaccination status and age. It could turn out that going into hospital for something else whilst unvaccinated is very risky.
What was the survival chances of the 40% who were already in hospital. Did Covid finish them off a few days early, or were they in for a routine operation.
What is the vaccination status of people admitted for Covid by age range. Imagine if it turned out that a much larger proportion of spreading in hospital was done by unvaccinated people?

She died from a blood clot at home.
Some conspiracy theorists said it was from the vaccine, at which point her husband said she was unvaccinated, making the point that if she was vaccinated, the very rare chance of this complication happening might not have. We will never know.
She was a supporter of small government and was against vaccine mandates.
I don't think mocking someone's death of a rare complication is particularly tasteful just because they feel it proves a point.

One thing is for certain - under Mike Ashley, Derby County will survive as a football club.  It might not be pretty, it might not be a successful period in our history but, make no doubt about it, we would survive and, frankly, that is enough for me after the last two years.

    Get a jab, don’t get a jab.
Sup to you, why do we have to convince each other to or not too?
I really don’t care if people don’t get the jab, and if I peg it because I’ve had the jab (I know I will die eventually btw) then there’s more gravy for the lucky ones who didn’t get it.
Life’s for living, I’ve heard there’s a flipping great meteor heading our way anyrode.

No drama but when people are clamouring for more restrictions based on hospital numbers its pretty important to estabish how many people are actually being hospitalised because of Covid

There are lots of problems with the data - agreed. Perhaps the biggest problem is that the official data doesn't count re-infections. Can you believe that!?  It means that the longer the pandemic goes on the more incorrect the cases data gets!
As a result, if you want to track the actual impact of Covid over time, Hospital Admissions data is a much better metric.

The problem is there are too many morons on both extremes of this situation, people probably do go to extremes re the vaccine dangers ( all medicines have dangers ) problem is the fertile breeding ground for this kind of thinking are things like pushing mass vaccination on catagory s of people that don’t really need it and pushing vaccine passports when we don’t have a vaccine that stops the spread , people at the top pushing mass fear on the population that it’s clear by they’re behaviour they don’t fear themselves and more worryingly the demonisation of groups or individuals that agree with everything and that most certainly includes intelligent qualified people as well as what some class as nut jobs ,
personally I would love to see us develop to a point where we found balance ,, you can believe covid is real and serious but also stand up and say NO this or that reaction / policy towards it is wrong and we are heading somewhere that this doesn’t warrant and it’s not the kind of world I want for future generations, you’ve on got to look at the likes of sturgeon, macron and the Canadian Justin s kind of rhetoric, some stuff I’ve seen from Australian politicians to see the danger in handing such sweeping power to governments ??‍♂️
