  1. I was referring to the tweet that turned out not to be the one you meant πŸ˜‚
  2. Q. What do you get if you try to cross human DNA with sheep DNA? A. Shot at by the farmer (apparently) πŸ‘ πŸƒπŸΌβ€β™‚οΈ
  3. This year I decided to buy a Russian advent calendar. But every time I open a window, an oligarch falls out.
  4. Did I imagine it, or is your wife Venezuelan? I don't know huge amounts about the details of what Chavez and Maduro did, other than I believe Chavez did appear to have good intentions back in 1998 - hence his winning the presidency, but ultimately he seems to have been just another populist basket case South American leader, just left-wing instead of right-wing. Argentina have just made the same mistake
  5. The US spent 25 years trying to undermine Chavez, for his sins of wanting to reduce inequality and share Venezuela's oil-riches amongst his people, not just the oil barons. It's also strongly rumoured that they had a hand in his mysterious sudden onset of aggressive cancer. The last thing the US wants is a strong South American nation showing what can be done if you govern for the many and not the few Maduro has been dealt a losing hand from the start - this Guyana stuff feels like a last ditch move of desperation, and it's never going to work. It's the Venezuelan people you have to feel sorry for πŸ˜”
  6. Here's a tip - if RR say that something will be ready by a certain date, you can add at least 10 years to that. They work to a different calendar than the rest of us πŸ˜‚
  7. Have you tried viewing it from the perspective of a comfortably well-off middle-aged white bloke who doesn't care about what it means for the poorest in Argentinian society, but loves any idea that means people like him might be able to prosper? That might help
  8. It's understandable that people are sick of the crippling inflation on the peso, and will be desperate enough to vote in a populist far-right leader who promises to tear it all down and start again, but you'd have to be a special type of idiot to think that moving to BTC as legal tender will give "the people" the stability they want. The crypto bros will be rubbing their hands in glee at the idea of a nation with an adult population of 30 million, suddenly trying to buy up as much BTC as they can.
  9. the tweet doesn't exist - but the account does. Is it this that you were linking to @NottsRam77
  10. Yet it's just another monetisation of the culture wars. They quickly realised that having only right-wing views just led to a nice pool of satisfied bigots, but zero engagement. Get some conflicting voices on there and give those viewers someone to argue with - that's the model I guess. It's still a right-wing channel though, all the presenters are coming from that angle. So many Tory MPs presenting shows now it'll probably have to go off air when the next election purdah period kicks in πŸ˜‚ Anyway - wildly off-topic there so back on to X I saw that Musk now wants to diversify X into being a new financial product that replaces bank accounts for people. Who here would trust X.com with their money???
  11. We finished it the other night, and I was steeling myself for the worst based on your warning. However - I didn't think it was that bad. I quite liked the story within a story within a story motif thing going on, and granted it did get a bit surreal in places but in the scheme of things I think I preferred that to if it had just turned out to be yet another run-of-the-mill gritty drug-gang drama. I've seen a lot worse!
  12. This is $ though right - not Β£? Anyway - i read that there are 50 million unique Bitcoin addresses that hold a non-zero balance, and around 19.6 million BTC in circulation So that's an average of 0.39 BTC per holder (in reality that's not going to be close to true as I think the majority of those 50 million addresses will only hold small amounts, and a small number will hold huge amounts...but anyway - even at 0.39 BTC as an average, that means the average wallet is worth $15,600 (or just over Β£12k). That figure surprised me as the way the cryptobros talk I assumed we were talking values of several 100k
  13. Tell us honestly then, is it exempt from ULEZ and did you get money from the scrappage scheme?
  14. I wish it were. They dress it up by calling it things like "long-termism" and "transhumanism" these days but it's all right there. But anyway - - OT for this thread. It's in the "Who Wants To Live Forever" thread if you're interested
  15. Well, you say that - but we have (at least one) actual eugenicist on this very forum.
  16. I fully agree with the high level point that commercial media is entrenched in the advertising/click-bait corporation game and therefore utterly untrustworthy But then at the same time I love the way he doesn't seem to mention that Twitter itself is a corporation run by a billionaire desperately pushing his own agenda at any cost ($44b in fact!) See also culture warrior love-ins over GB News being some sort of brilliant thing. These aren't the "good guys" - they are just "the other bad guys"
  17. In a day, I'll be over the mountain There'll be time enough left for to cry So good night and God guard you forever And write to me, won't you, goodbye
  18. Ooh - top tip - thanks I always found it fascinating how so many Eastern Bloc teams were named after the industry they represented Dynamo (Police) Shaktar (Miners) Steau/Partizan/CSKA (Army) Rapid/Lokomotiv (Railways) Spartak (Trade Unions) Torpedo (Cars) Zenit (Weapons)
  19. Every single person killed in the Dresden bombings was? Every single one of them was a genocidal murderer? None of them were innocent pacifists, or children? It's an interesting philosophical debate to have I agree. Where does murdering innocent people in the name of "war" become justified if it stops further murders by the other side. Similar to the Trolley Car dilemma, except it's real and not theoretical and people do actually die
  20. Not sure mate - you've given yourself a lot of competition πŸ˜‚ Proper LOLs at his "I don't want you to advertise with us" rant. It's like a classic schoolboy reaction to being dumped - "actually I don't even WANT to go out with you any more" and the "everyone will know that you killed X" is gaslighting in the extreme. Take some responsibility for you actions Space Karen!
  21. Yeah look where the ball is when NML plays it. It's already well into the dark green stripe, and TJJ is still in the pale stripe behind it. Can't be offside if you are behind the ball when it's played!
  22. I'm hoping that's the what the manslaughter charge is all about - a chance to have this explained in court, so that Petgrave can come to terms with what happened, and that Johnson's family can find some peace in it being officially ruled a tragic accident
