If it helps, we’ve got a game in hand on the teams occupying 4th, 5th and 6th place. IF we can win that game in hand we’ll be 4th, meeting that expectation of top 6.
You’re right there are still improvements to make, not sure there’s “massive work” as you term it, more fine tuning and establishing some consistency. Can’t you see any shoots of improvement and reasons for optimism from tonight? Or the good away form in general?
Players returning from injury providing depth and competition, 3 goals scored away from home, a win at a team previously unbeaten at home this season, a win against a team that embarrassed us in the cup a few weeks back, a solid looking defence over the last few games, we are on a mini unbeaten run too. It’s not all bleak.

I’ve been out tonight so just catching up. Apparently, we’ve picked a terrible 11 tonight and won’t get a shot on target. Hope that isn’t the case.

Hibernating? No, though I wish I had been through the majority of 2009-2013.
We finished 7th by a single point. We are 12th after nine games, not 39.
Appalling? Why do people use such powerful language to describe the performance of a club that were moments from extinction less than 18 months ago and is still clearly going through a recovery period?
What’s appalling is the lack of patience and perspective from some of the fanbase.

    What’s the reality?
We’ve had a less than spectacular start to the season? Results have been mixed? Performances have largely been poor? Who has said this is not the case?
Everyone can see the reality. Some people are missing the fact that it’s a 46 game season. Absolutely nothing has been won or lost and nothing has been decided. Portsmouth are certainly not champions and we are certainly not doomed.
Everyone wants better results, better performances and better players, but we are where we are and this will take time.

I purposely didn't read the forum until I was home and I'm so glad because you saved me the bother of posting earlier because its exactly what I would have said.
Every week its constant moaning about just launching the ball aimlessly, yet today we played the ball constantly on the floor.  Passing was fairly crisp and our control really good. Lots of angled balls between their backline but then our final ball was either poor, the shot blocked, we didn't attack the ball or it just didn't fall right.
Pretty much controlled the game and if we'd had a better striker and/or a bit more luck then we would have won 2 or 3 nil. Set pieces were pretty poor to be honest though.
The boos were aimed at the ref/linesman who were awful 2nd half.
I actually enjoyed the game other than our failure to score,  and its clear the agenda of a few regular posters is just to moan relentlessly, regardless thus rendering the match day thread almost pointless so I will avoid it in the future I'm afraid.
Disappointed and of course 'we should be beating' Cambridge but we missed good chances and were the only team playing football.

Exactly! Listened to Colin Gibson's post match thoughts regarding the fact that Warne doesn't really appear to rate some of Rosenior's signings but obviously can't say so.The players who currently beat the brunt of most of our frustrations are Collins,NML and Smith-all LR signings.Contracts for Hourihane,Smith,NML,Collins,Barks and Sibley expire next June and I won't miss any of them.Cashin and Bird ,however, will be big losses but that's where we are as a club, sadly.Fornah,Nelson and Nyambe are good additions and Ward,Wilson and Elder, when fit, should improve us.Like many others I feel frustrated but expecting instantaneous success after what we've been through is totally unrealistic. It took Fergie, the greatest,5 seasons to get it right at Utd!!
Warne is getting a lot of criticism, some of it well over the top,but I won't sit in "judgment" until the squad is full of his signings and not one where he's trying to get the best out of several players who are past there sell by date and only here because we were desperate for bodies and offering the chance of one last decent pay day.

I'm usually Captain Grumpy however I thought we played much better today. Typical football isn't it, play horrendous and win, play really well and it's 0-0. Both full backs were superb today, blocked all their attacks. We just lacked some quality in the final third. The forward line let us down today.
I hope Warne sticks with this system though, it has potential when we have more players coming back from injury.

Well said. And an injury list that is far from helpful. As long as we motor on and don’t look in danger then a development plan and strategy needs time to do its stuff and for me that is what was decided by DC when awarding a 4 year deal. … Hey, by the end of year 2 and in to 3 we want to see resilience, identity and a winning style but twitchy trigger fingers have got us nowhere in 10 years. Patience ladies and gentlemen.

Maybe, I guess we will see what Clowes’ view is in the coming days and weeks.
It seems to me fans are desperately craving a managerial change to the point where any sense of perspective is lost.
We all would love to see picture perfect performances and results, but the reality is that it will still be the same group of players until January who have yet to implement any plan particularly well.
We go direct? It’s too chaotic. We keep possession? It’s too slow. We have the ball? In control but no spark. We don’t have the ball? Pathetic.
What’s to say the new manager will do better? What’s to say the new manager won’t have teething problems?

They came and parked the bus. We dominated and could easily have scored a couple. Waghorn header and numerous chances where a bit more quality and care with the final pass / cross come to mind. Yet there are boos on the final whistle and numerous calling for Warne out. 🤦

Much better performance in my opinion and 3 points off the playoffs with a game in hand.

Oh for the days when we had the points deduction and a fan base that remained positive and together throughout!

    Why are you so angry?
We have 14 points from nine games. We are three points from the play off places with one to two games in hand depending on who plays on the 14th.  It’s not a doomsday scenario.
We are a work in progress. We have 37 games to get things right and it’s clear that Warne is still working on things and trying to achieve the right balance whilst dealing with a squad that has many absentees through injury and many players searching for form or fitness, sometimes both.
Who said anything anywhere about it being acceptable? I think we are all frustrated. We all want better football married with positive results, but there’s no need to react like this.
It’s a long season and we’ll pick up unlikely points and drop nailed on points whoever the manager is.
