  1. Weird internet forum language. I've never liked how people say "This" to a post they like. This what? If I just said "this" in real life id probably really confuse people. (I'm setting myself up for someone to randomly annoy me here).

One I've noticed recently is people who start a reply with "Genuine question." Is there some reason to think they wouldnt be genuine?

Well put Mr Stringerbell. I would have explained all this myself but given the response I just couldn't be a4sed.

I have had terrible insomnia since I was a kid so to save the other half dying of sleep deprivation I find myself getting up, sofa-surfing and watching a lot of movies. Been binging on Korean crime movies recently - Old Boy as you say is the one everyone has heard of but there's stacks of good stuff out there. I'll send you a couple of links to other stuff that's cool but not so well known but you probably already know where to find such titles. The one I suggested is definitely worth a look - brutal mind!

Like you, I can't understand why anyone would just write off an entire country's output without knowing the first thing about it. It's like toddlers with their food! These days it's so easy to check out feedback on films amongst other things. I guess some folk prefer the stock-in-trade Hollywood output but franchised entertainment gets tiresome pretty quick. I guess it's symptomatic of how you look at life. Do you stick with what you know or take a risk from time to time in search of new adventures? I'm all about the latter.

I’ll check it out. I could do with watching something a bit different. Last Korean one I watched was train to Busan. I used to watch loads of foreign language films when I was younger but as I get older I tend to find myself busy and just put stuff on to switch off. Shame really.

Its not a crime film but have you seen The Host? Proper breath of fresh air.

And not Korean but Asian crime, I always liked the Infernal Affairs trilogy back in the day. Don’t know if you’ve seen that? It’s what The Departed is based on.

  3. I thought everyone liked Oldboy? I really like Sympathy for Mister Vengeance as well.

I love a good foreign language film. I don’t see why anyone would deliberately cut themselves off from entire film industries. Their loss. The only kind of foreign language film I’d avoid watching is the musical Bollywood types.

Foreign language films are a bit of a pain in the arse at night when you’ve got heavy eyelids though.

You assume, incorrectly, that anyone who can see the flaws in total deregulation must be an authoritarian Stalinist.

    There are other options.

You assume, incorrectly, that I’m in favour of total deregulation. Capitalism has brought the success to Twitch stars, the system you don’t like.

Similarities are there but you buy a ticket to watch athletes perform, not directly making PayPal donations to some random Joe that’s playing a video game which anyone can pick up at the shop and play themselves.

I think I’ve got what it takes to be a twitch streamer. Still working on my moobs though. Cleavage sells.

By the same token anyone can kick a ball about. Is it not just another form of paying for entertainment, when all’s said and done? We might perceive a qualitative difference, but it’s just a different choice.

Only playing devil’s advocate, I know nothing about it.

Careful, the market dictating somebody is getting well paid for somebody they love doing? You’ll be extolling the virtues of capitalism in a minute.

Is he a bit of a knob? Of course. That doesn't mean a lot of what he says about the business practices of the likes of EA aren't right (in my view at least).

Ah he’s said and endorsed a few things that get my goat. To be fair he’s not as bad as the other gaming fatty Bob Chipman.

On lootboxes, not a fan at all. I’m playing Battlefront 2 and it’s an extremely irritating way to progress. However, the fact that there’s a degree of separation between the real money and the purchase of the loot box probably means it’s less an example of gambling than buying a pack of panini stickers.

Jim Sterling nails so much of what I feel about the games industry these days.

He’s just been gloating about a dev being sacked for identifying as an attack helicopter.

The mans been long established as a total ****.
