Very enjoyable day out, of course helped by the win that I thought we deserved.
£6 for burger, chips and drink at adjacent centre, easy free parking and journey, friendly Oxford fans, a couple of amusing Mr Angry Derby fans next to me whose choice invective during the game made me laugh, and a decent chat with B4 and his dad pre match. If Carling made away trips...

I understand it is the default setting of many football supporters to feel that officials are against their team and to moan about it, but 'Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't after you'.
    1) Football was done in 1992.
I think the formation of the PL that was purely financially driven has caused many problems in the top football leagues and is creating a different sort of 'product', what with the effects of parachute payments, disparity between the PL and the Championship, and now state ownership of clubs and sportswashing. It doesn't mean that football is done, but that certain aspects of competitiveness if the upper leagues currently is.
    2) If Dobbin had gone down in the opposite box with the same contact, and got us a 2-1 win he would have been a hero, and football would be ok again, and this thread would have never existed.
Key phrase missing is 'and the the ref gave us a penalty'. I can't recall us getting too many soft decisions this season.
    3) All this EFL influenced officialdom is boring. Most refs are crap in this division, and the Championship. Stop bloody moaning.
I admit to being boring. So much so that after several seasons of feeling that key decisions go against us, and this affects our overall position in the league and it doesn't 'even itself out at the end of the season', that in 20/21 I kept a very nerdy spreadsheet of controversial decisions in our games, both for and against. We came out with -8 or -9 points due to these.
It's all very well taking each game one at a time and saying well, ok, that decision went against us and cost us the draw or win, but we didn't deserve the points so it doesn't matter. Football results aren't decided on performance or merit, but the scores on the doors at the end of the match. At present it feels like we need to create ourselves a goal buffer to allow for poor decisions.
    Also, I like moaning.

Carrying over the -21 points the refs gave us to the next season was particularly harsh.

Martin went down easily, but I don't remember much outright diving?
The incident I do remember, conversely, was him being fouled in the box and consequently getting sent off for simulation against Burnley...

Like all the "Big" teams/clubs who find themselves in the third tier, we are a "target" . A target for opposition fans, players , clubs and , and , the officials. My observations on this league thus far are

    1. Cheating/simulation/diving , diving like you've been shot in the back by a German WWII sniper in Stalingrad at the merest brush of contact . This has genuinely surprised me. It is worse in this league than the championship.

    2. Cheating in constantly moaning to the Ref , attempting to get opposition players booked and sent off. Again this has surprised me. You'd think the further you go down the football pyramid the less this would occur.

    3. The officials. They have been rotten. Sometimes ridiculously corrupt rotten. When I saw the ref for our Port Vale game at PP had written a letter of apology to PVFC for not awarding them a penalty in a previous fixture ( think it was v Sunderland) , I just knew it would be raining penalties for them . And guess what ? It did ! The refs have been unbelievably bad. So much so that it goes beyond trying to be rational with their decisions. They must also know they are reffing Derby .

    4. Opposition fans forums tend to be respectful of our size and stature , but also completely deluded into thinking we are spending loads of money . Not realising we are still under various EFL restraints ect...  consequently when we win we get no credit. But when we lose.. Oh my.. we put one over on Billy Big Boots ect.. Though I would say most of the opposition forums have a decent core bunch posting.

    5. At the start of this season I wanted us to follow or look at the Norwich/Leicester/Southampton models for when they dropped down here and pretty quickly gained promotion. But, we are indeed a special case. And where we are now compared to where we were half way thru last season is amazing . So I'm still feeling really positive. But in order to get out of this league we are going to have to be so much better in order to cancel out the garbage refs.

    6. As a club we are going through a revitalisation period and some of the new grounds we've visited have been a refreshing part of this. I've just added this as an after thought ! lol

It's an interesting conundrum we face here.
Football is a game of fine margins, and if decisions like this seemingly go against us more often than not, then we're going to have to try to win games 3 or 4 nil to overcome this, that is nigh on impossible.
It's easy to extrapolate how this will lead on to further problems...
If we don't want to give away 'soft' penalties, then don't touch or attempt to touch any opposition player in the penalty area. But then, it gives them an advantage if we stand off, fearful of over zealous referees, and are too cautious in tackles.
    All rather tricky.

Unless denying a clear goalscoring chance, I've always thought it would be better if only a free kick were awarded for "fouls" like the other night, rather than a free shot at goal from 12 yards.
In the case of most penalties the punishment clearly doesn't fit the crime and this in itself encourages diving in the box.

Just watched the highlights on Rams TV.
What caught my eye was when Roberts scored his header for our first goal he runs over to Hourihane to celebrate and there appears to be some very polite clapping from a few of the MKD fans in that corner to him. What a sporting bunch.

Was intruiged to see when Derby last came back to win from a losing position in an away game in the league.
Scrolling back through previous results as far as I can see it was 8/2/20 when we beat Swansea away 3-2 after being 1 nil up then 2-1 down.
A positive stat and I hope if we can keep this sort of performance up then it should be a great season.
