My mum has a story about him when my grandad went to get the season tickets the season they got promoted to division 1, my grandad was "discussing" the unacceptably of the tickets being offered to him and Brian Clough walks past. The upshot was they had good seats that season. I also had a uni lecturer who claimed to have been a drinking buddy of his when he was managing Derby. A uni lecturer with a reputation for boozing and unreliability it has to be said. But I don't think we should paper over the damage the alcoholism did to him, his family and those around him. Addiction can be so destructive.

Carlisle are a professional club and they are professional players and coaches, if anything they'll be extra motivated to at least make a mark, for pride, defiance, etc. We should be able to overcome that, but I fully expect a last "show them you can play" effort that just wouldn't be there if they had their last game with nothing on it.

Why should a team that's spent the whole season proving they're not up to playing in the division above get a chance for a reprieve in a one off match? It's also just got the absolute worst vibes for hope, ambition, joy. Just hate the idea. So PL will probably implement it. My preference would be: 3rd play 4th at home - winner is finalist. Loser plays winner of 5/6 at home. 5th play 6th at home - winner plays loser of 3v4 away. Winner of that match goes to the final. I like it because each place up you finish gives an advantage. 3rd has 2 shots at making the final, both at home. 4th has 2 shots at it, second of those at home. 5th has to win 2 games to get to the final, but the first is at home. 6th has to win 2 away games to make the final. Final because it's a good money spinner. The games to get there are not two legs. It's still balls because we all know top 3 should go up by right, but the entertainment value of the play offs is a good thing overall.

"Managing upwards" is stressfull in any job when it's needed as I'm sure many of us have had to deal with at times, but this sounds like a really not fun task for the media person to have to deal with. Agreed. I think Adams or very similar to Adams and the new Jason Knight will be on the shopping list, as will a championship version of James Collins. And hopefully a version (replacement) of Sonny Bradley that is what he thought Bradley would be for us this season.

I suspect his situation is dependent on what division we're in, if we go up I think we'll try to sign a new keeper and either offer him the back up job or let him go. I agree,he's been a good keeper for us and I wouldn't just throw him out but I suspect he's not really got the Paul warne love. I think Angieram mentioned he's not been offered a new contract yet.

He deserves his chance with us next season, the squad will be rebuilt through necessity. I imagine we'll be recruiting better, younger versions of some of the older and departing members of the squad. I don't think we'll play a radically different style, we'll just be playing it better with better players, but, also, against better quality of teams. I think a lot of folks aren't really appreciating we're going to go from a big fish in a small pond to a medium sized fish in a much bigger pond. PWs style partly drives some mad in league 1 because we're supposed to be dominating a lot of games and winning a lot of them a lot more comfortably than we have been. Making top end championship teams look like top end championship teams as we pinch wins is a lot more forgivable than making middling league 1 teams look like top end championship teams as we pinch a win. But we've got the results needed by doing it.

Cardiff are not looking like the good guys in this. He'd completed the transfer, he was their player, they should pay what they owe.
