If you read back I said "a shame Warne has no ability of his own, or contacts in the game, to attract players", which was shorthand for comparing him to our recent managers: Liam Rosenior, Wayne Rooney, Phillip Cocu, Frank Lampard, Gary Rowett, Steve McClaren. All of whom were well known, highly respected figures in the world of football. All of the above added something extra to the equation and could bring extra players to Derby as a result. 
In contrast, surely it's indisputable that Warne is a nobody in terms of his standing in the football world (he can't help that)? He doesn't possess the X-factor to separately bring players into the club. We have the most fans and the best training facilities in the division, and we're at the right end of the table, so of course players have signed for us. But none of these signings are surprising or special. It's not like Mason Mount coming to join Derby County, or even David McGoldrick and Conor Hourihane dropping down to League One to join us. I just wish he had more personal pull because, when we have no money as you say, that could make a big difference. I didn't "have a go" at him - I said it was "a shame".

That wasn’t the message that the club was giving out. Would be a stupid move anyway, there won’t be a better chance of getting out this league than this season.

Yeah in hindsight it’s not the best look, as others have said the expectation setting by the club, whether intentional or not, has been questionable.
I’d much rather have had low expectations of a “as we continue to recover post admin we’ll be able to add to the squad but within sensible limits agreed in our business plan put to the EFL”, would probably have disappointed at the time but saved some heartache in the mid to long term of the season. 

Surely the correct thing to do then is look for players IN our constraints? It’s not like there isn’t a player now playing non-league or otherwise in world football that isn’t going to go on to have a very good career - the job of our club is to find them. We have a lazy approach to recruitment, that hasn’t changed since Mel Morris was chairman. How often do we sign players from down the pyramid as opposed from up it? Since the takeover, we have signed one player from a level lower than our own - Scott Loach from Chesterfield.  Peterborough have made more signings from a level lower than themselves in the past two seasons than we have in the past decade. We just don’t do it. 
Take a snapshot of almost any season in history and you see names littered amongst the lower tiers - it happens all the time. Why on earth we take such a lazy approach to recruitment really irritates me. No excuse for it given our position. 

One fit centre forward for the next month is pretty shambolic though, is it not? 

He’s had 6 months to prepare for this window and the best he could come up with was Micheal Smith and Lee Gregory? Absolute fraud. 99% of members on here could have come up with those suggestions.

But we did sell someone, and that deal presumably wasn't cooked up in an hour earlier today.
If we had to sell to buy then fair enough, but we only did the selling part.

Can’t stand these kind of responses.
If the club were open and transparent instead of getting fans hopes up, the reactions would be a lot more understanding.
 
Why go around telling the media there are pots to spend to strengthen and then fail to do so? 

The club have thoroughly let the fans down this January. 

Completely and utterly disgraceful.
Everybody involved in our recruitment process should be thoroughly embarrassed and out the door before the start of next season.

Pompey, Bolton and Peterborough have all breached FFP and will be deducted points? There's now 4 automatic spots in League 1? The EFL have realised they made errors with our charges in the past and will refund us some points? McClaren is returning?

Thats fine but at no point since the summer has that been the message from the club so people are going to be disappointed.
If they’re at the limit of the business plan then just say that? Don’t tell everyone two weeks ago you’ve put in a very good offer for Michael Smith. If he is the only player they could identify with this very good offer then what on earth is going on. 
The optics of selling Bird are bad too. I’m sure it makes sense and the club shouldn’t be run on how things look externally, I admit, but it isn’t great.

Warne been banging on about a striker for literal months, pissing around with grandads from Sheffield. Then we end up with absolutely nothing, other than shipping out the only backup striker we had. Something doesn’t add up whatsoever. 
The rest of the business has been fine and understandable. This just doesn’t add up at all. Why fixate on two old blokes from one club? Why has it taken til the last day? Why be so brazen about what you wanted just to be left with egg on your face? I struggle to believe the party line we will be fed about getting in players who will improve us. It’s just not true. If Collins gets injured Saturday we are up the creek with no paddle. 

There’s nothing hysterical about being furious that the club has failed to sign a player in a position that was deemed the biggest priority before the window began. It’s pathetic from all involved. Not the first time it’s happened either.

He should resign on principle

People saying not to blame Warne need to give their head a wobble. Two Sheffield Wednesday outcasts as targets…one injury prone (there’s a shock). Extending TJJ’s contract when he is made of a glass, so many players show their ‘quality’ in training but I didn’t see any potential in him. CBT is a very good signing and I hope Adam’s is. Warne’s style of play will put players off from joining so it doesn’t surprise me we didn’t get anyone in. There’s still no structure with this club either and there won’t be until Pearce has gone. We need answers and I don’t think we will get the serious stuff from Warne in his presser tomorrow. Clowes needs to answer some of the questions.

Exactly - the communication has been f***ing awful.
'There are no restrictions'. Except there are.
'We're confident on getting a striker'. No striker... In fact, let's loan one out.
Always over-promising and under-delivering. Fuming.

Rosenior had far far greater restrictions and pulled off a a few great signings. Given this summer with a less stringent one he would have pulled off better than 3 god ones out of 14 

I really don’t want to hear the same old crap about how we missed out if I am honest.
I think it would help if Clowes and Pearce ( along with PW) came out and did a proper Q&A on this whole situation. I still believe the Club haven’t helped themselves here, what with mixed messages/poor comms to the supporters about our ability to strengthen this window and how they’ve gone about the window as a whole. Too much time and effort once again wasted on Weds players…
We all know the financial controls from the EFL, that Clowes will only let us get in players using revenue and that he won’t be putting any extra money into that side of things (and that’s fine).
But you can’t help feeling that we could have managed this window better. My own view is that a quality striker was a bigger priority than getting in CBT….
Time will tell of course but at this point I think it’s just a question of staying in the top 6 if we can.
One thing is certain- if Collins gets injured over the next two months it will be highly embarrassing when looking at our forward line. There’s no chance that Waggy or Wash will be fully match fit before two months…if at all this season.
Always a chance that we pick up some free agent later of course, but ….🤷

For what it's worth I think the reason we are all so racked off is that Warne has been going on about adding a striker for weeks, and the club have done a crap job about being explicit with any restrictions we may or may not be working within.
The perception will be that the club has over promised and under delivered and it looks like we'll be limping home this season having apparently learned nothing from last season.
