There's been lots of hysteria here and on social around midday today as some kind of do or die moment. That's only for tomorrow's game, where the only real shortage is at CH.

We can still get players signed until the transfer deadline on September 2nd.

Plenty of time to get this sorted, even if it means playing a younger side for the first couple of games.

Folk need to calm down a little.

The hysteria is because we could potentially lose a number of future signings by our young players professional standing changing.

  2. Would have him in a heartbeat. Has the potential to improve our first team in the way Wilson and Tomori did.

He may have chosen to leave but the quality he has, we'd (fans) be daft to turn our noses up and miss out on a player who could help us push for top 6 next season.

  3. The biggest fear for me is that back in February when Alonso's interest was first reported it was said he was working with Matt Southall, the a*se who asset-stripped Charlton and left them without a paddle.

Southall isn't being mentioned currently but I'd be surprised if he wasn't involved still, which is my biggest concern. If you associate with these sorts of people it's hardly a reassuring thing.

How long did it take him to get his yellow card? He's learning the game, see @angierams post just above you for a reasoned yet obvious answer.

For me, his attacking threat brings far more advantages to the side than the risk he brings currently with his discipline (especially in games against teams who'll be 'scrappier' and more likely to play on the counter).

  5. I was at a loss as to why Sibley wasn't brought on much sooner yesterday. I'm still rattled by it.

Against the Rotherhams of this league, who'll hurry you any time you're on the ball and mainly look to attack on the counter, you know you're in for a game where confidence and creativity on the ball (particularly in the middle of the park) are essential if you want to be creating chances. Bielik had this in abundance, with him now out for the season we need to replace that in this key position. Sibley is perfect for this.

Bird and Shinnie are not creative players in the way Bielik and Sibley are. Knight can play positively, but if we're setting up with 2 box-to-box midfielders and a DM in Bird, who is a keep-the-ball/do-the-basics kind of midfielder and not a creative type, then we'll struggle to open teams up, and we won't go about attacks with much purpose at all, as was on show yesterday. Have Sibley in there and you'll have a player who can feed the Jozwiaks, CKRs, and who'll create chances for himself too.

Having CKR and Waghorn on the pitch at the same time (why Rooney uses Waghorn as a winger is beyond me, I love the bloke but in that position he is utterly useless), then atm we're left with Jozwiak and Knight as our only real creative outlets going forward (2/5 of our outfield players that aren't defenders...), until Byrne and Buchanan have chance to join in any attacks.

I understand people's points about Sibley's discipline, he needs to cut out the silly fouls as these have been hurting us. I don't agree that his lack of defensive nous is an issue though, with Shinnie and Bird in there do we really need the 3rd CM to be defensively minded as well? You can see the burden on Jozwiak to create a bit of magic whenever he's on the ball atm, because CKR and Waghorn are the types of players that need chances creating for them to finish, not the other way round.

Roberts will hopefully be starting soon which will help having another player who can make things happen on the ball. But for the life of me I can't see why Rooney doesn't give Sibley more of a chance in games where we know we'll be needing that bit of magic to open teams up. People say he's had a 'dip in form' but I'd argue he's barely had a sniff under Rooney so far.

    Rant over!

Whittaker too. Big future still for him.

Weird one for Whittaker, I was never a fan after watching his performance at Forest in that diabolical league cup tie (where incidentally Sibley was the only player who played well and was dragged off after about 60 minutes...)

But Whittaker then had a run in the side where he started to look like a really promising player, seemed to be gaining in confidence, and then hasn't had a sniff since?!

I understand Rooney is going for solidity right now and for that reason we'll see far less attacking flair in our line ups until we've pulled away from the relegation zone. But it is frustrating to see Sibley in particular only given the back-ends of games to do something.

I’d be fuming if we sell Sibley.

He is the star of the academy. He was the top performer in the U18s top team. He was incredible last year, if we sold him last summer he’d have been worth 15 million plus. Was a revelation last year. A special talent. For whatever reason, injury being a key issue, it hasn’t worked for him so far this year. But Sibley is someone we should be building teams around, not selling.

If he goes, having an academy is absolutely pointless. We’d get bugger all compared to the summer if he was to go now. He’s not had a chance to fully show his potential, but he has got so much talent, with that nasty streak as well. Rooney I’m sure can relate to that. Fingers crossed it’s rubbish, I hope so, but as others have said, the vultures are circling. Sad times.

He's also been given very few minutes considering his ability, in my opinion.

Always irks me when people write off a player who's only being given the ends of games to show what they can do (I don't mean you).

For me Sibley is our best attacking threat we have.

Tom Carroll was dog poo though, totally outclassed by Hughes who was three years his junior

Not saying he was good whilst with us, but obviously a player in there with potential - which was seeming to come good for a period at Spurs
