I love the bloke. If he had signed at the start of the season we would have won the league, he made that much of a difference.
Technically, he isn't the best. But he was so important, that bloke in the middle who just does the dirty work. A huge part of the team, which most team needs, that unfashionable player.
Like John Eustace, technically not great, but the work he did and how important he was to the team was there for all to see.
But at 29 next season, and having played 11 games in the Championship and the rest at league one/two, £1 million is far too much.
£1 million pound, 3 year deal, on a fairly modest 10k a week, would be just under £1.5 million in wages. So essentially a £2.5 million outlay that would end when he is 32, with little to no resale value.
I am the same as everyone, you get a player in, you love them, you can't see how there is anyone like them who could come in and do that job.
Before he signed, I had never heard of Ebou Adams. So I am sure if he doesnt sign, then we have plenty of other options, that we will have no idea about, that would come in and offer the same defensive stability and grit that Ebou gave us. I think I would go to a maximum 500k and walk away. 
I mentioned it on another thread. Ethan Erhahon, we were linked with a while back. He's 22, Scottish and very highly rated, probably one of the best midfielders in the league last season.
Reading about Erhahon, they have said they would expect to break their transfer record if he is sold, which stands at £650k. So less than the 27 year old Icelandic midfielder has cost Preston. Maybe this sort of player, with better value, is the reason we walked away from the Icelandic midfielder.

The Golden Glove award can be so misleading. If it's based on the number of clean sheets, I would suggest that was more down to the likes of Cashin and Nelson than anything else.

In defence of @SECornerRAM they broke injury news before a number of matches last season that hadn’t been mentioned anywhere else. Also mentioned the Icelandic midfielder Thordarson back at the start of June which was way before this weekend’s story by a Danish journalist. Has also got some bits wrong I think. But there’s at least some suggestion of them having a source at the club, or having a wire tap in an office, or compromising pictures of Matt Hamshaw or something leading to at least some sort of info leak.

A potentially exciting addition. As a few have pointed out our European imports haven't exactly been on the money recently. Give the guy time to settle, it's not just him, the team/squad is going thru quite a bit of surgery and wont be the finished article instantly

A few players in the Championship have moved over from Eredivisie and done well recently, including the best player in the league last season in Crysensio Summerville. 
Ki-Jana Hoever, Kenneth Paal, Zian Flemming, Milan van Ewijk, Wouter Burger, Rav van den Berg, Sondre Tronstad, Joël Piroe... i'm sure there are more, plus I'm sure there are failures, but it has become a league with a genuine pipeline into the Championship over the past half-decade.

It's interesting that when Derby had the same attitude as Chelsea, Villa, Newcastle and Forest, we were the bad guys bending rules going against establishment. Amortisation(Chelsea), supposedly creating false values of players etc. Football especially the prem is becoming an ugly place to be 

What does having heard of a player have to do with their viability as a signing?
I’d never heard of Ebou Adams, Kane Wilson, Paulo Wanchope, Gregorz Rasiak, Craig Bryson, Robin Van Der Laan, Carbonari etc etc….it didn’t stop them coming in and having an impact on Derby County.
Conversely I had heard of the likes of Ravanelli, Wayne Rooney, Jacob Butterfield, Ikechi Anya, Efe Ambrose and others….
If the players we sign come in and do a job for the team I don’t really care what their reputation is or if I’ve heard of them. Some of my favourite players down the years have been random signings out of nowhere.

You not having heard of Jerry Yates just betrays that you have poor football knowledge, which is clarified further in the rest of your post. 

Ok, I'm gonna bite. You're clearly a passionate (and angry?) person wanting the best for the club. We won automatic promotion from L1 with a side of youth and experience (that means old by some of your prev posts) cobbled together within financial constraints. 
You know, we know and for sure Paul Warne knows this side will likely struggle in the Championship so players are needed. Quite a few probably. I'm 100% sure negotiations have been ongoing for weeks already. Contracts take time, most (sensible) people know that. It has to be the right player, for the right position, for the right price, for the right length of time. Rush in at your peril. Do you want us to financially collapse again? Plenty of time yet. So, be patient....have another rant, but make it constructive.....or support someone else if the club's a joke to you and they ruin your life on a daily basis. Life is too short after all.
