    Derby to clinch City's Roberts

    Simon Stone

    BBC Sport reporter

Derby are hoping to clinch a deal for Manchester City striker Patrick Roberts before this evening’s deadline.

Wayne Rooney has been busy trying to bolster his squad today after the frustrations over the time taken for the club’s proposed takeover to go through.

Roberts signed a two-and-a-half year extension to his City contract in 2019, that is not due to run out until next year.

That will take his stay at the Etihad Stadium to seven years – but he has only played for them three times.

He has so far had seven different loan deals with four clubs and has been with Middlesbrough since January 2020.

Derby County have emerged as potential contenders to complete a deadline day deal for Patrick Roberts, sources have exclusively told Football League World.

FLW understand that the player would be keen on a move should the Rams solidify their interest with a loan offer.

Serdar Dursun will remain with SV Darmstadt 98 - although English second division side Derby County have been heavily swayed by the Lily striker. Manager Carsten Wehlmann rejected a proud sum in the end.

As the hr-sport has learned, the third and final offer of the English second division was a total of just over one million euros. A proud sum for a second division player. Lily manager Carsten Wehlmann refused, however, partly because he had no replacement for Dursun in the backhand.

Daniel: From time to time his body language can be very frustrating as it seemed that he can't be bothered. He needs a lot of confidence from the manager to fulfill his potential. Also, he is not the quickest player.

Matthew: Sometimes Dursan is a bit erratic in front of goal. He does spurn some big chances!

Sounds like the waghorn Martin hybrid we’ve been desperate for!

To be fair, the answers were mostly very positive

I honestly dont think it will be the end of the signings.

Just my feeling, but I think Mel is backing Cocu and helping him assemble HIS team.

In being greedy here, but I'm expecting a player to go, one of Marriott/Lawrence/Waghorn etc, and then we get a left back and at least 1 midfielder.

There was a Twitter rumour from one of those crazy pages saying we wanted Van Ginkel and a 26 year old left back on loan from Chelsea. I wouldnt rule that out completely as both signings would make sense.

One thing to note is the deadline is next Monday (5th October), however EPL and EFL clubs can still do deals with one another until 16th October. Therefore, I am guessing many clubs will be prioritising the international deals (this includes Scotland) at the moment.

There are some very large anomalies in the clubs statements. Firstly stating that they applied the maximum contractual sanction they could in the case of Lawrence and Bennett. Not true. They could have dismissed both for gross misconduct quite justifiably for bringing the clubs name into disrepute, they chose not to take this course of action.

They then dismissed Keogh for some act of gross misconduct whilst Lawrence and Bennett whom also committed acts of gross misconduct were not. This then just invites criticism of the clubs handling of the matter.

Exactly, it's a very cynical move by the club, just because Bennett and Lawrence are fit to play and therefore still a possible assett. There may be more to it but going on what we do know, I think the club have made a big error here

Fair enough. I hope you feel better soon. A sense of humour bypass is always a tricky operation to get over.

I know it's humour but your remark shot the poster down in a way to invalidate his passionate viewpoint.

  8. Don't see how this going to help the club, certainly not this season. Lawrence and Bennett may well receive even more vitriol from the fans now, which is not right nor good for anyone in the team, management and fans.
