I'm not so sure about that. He's our player, signed before we went into administration, so the only consideration should be how it would affect our overall wage limit and agreed budget.

I was more referring to potential FFP breaches, I think we'd be OK to bring him back but there might be some future stipulation to reduce the wages.

  2. Ultimately Warne knew in the grand scheme of things his budget at Rotherham was pitiful compared to the teams he was competing with at Championship level (and an owner that sold all his best players), he'd be mental to go up to that league and try and play passing football against teams with 5-15 times his budget and loans of the best youngsters from the Prem. We'll still see evidence of his style but he'll have more options to effect games.

"just came here thinking it would be a nice time getting good pay" implies they are lazy and unprofessional.

Not really, they may still up for games but are they the type of characters we need to escape this division? From what I saw in our games against teams up there like Plymouth and Ipswich there was a difference. I'm not saying all our signings are bad but are we really a conhesive unit judging on the games so far? Not from what i've been watching.

If all players were so driven as people are saying they are why does Warne feel the need for a motivation wall? Why are people posting pics of Joey Barton's battle board on twitter he puts in the dressing room? Mentality is key. Pro football is fine margins as any fan of this club should be acutely aware.

I don't think it is over the top tbh. You've basically said we're losing games because some of the squad are being lazy and unprofessional. If that were true, it would be easy to name names. And then when pressed on it, you've actually hit on the real reason, which is the lack of structure and organisation in the team.  We aren't pressing as unit, but it's not because players can't be bothered, it's because the team isn't set up properly, players are being used wrongly and so on.  You can't press as a unit if you don't know who to press and when, and you don't trust that the rest of the team know when/who to press either.

This isn't really aimed at anyone in particular, but I get really annoyed when people start accusing players of being lazy and not wanting it enough.  I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but there's a massive tendency in English football to blame it for literally everything. Collins missed a tap in, "didn't want it enough". Davies gave a way a pen, "didn't want it enough". and so on.  It just distracts from any real analysis of what the problem is.

Never said they were lazy or unprofessional did I? Said it was fine margins but I don't feel the desire required is there for some players at certain periods of games.

I think Warne is instructing them properly how to press in training personally but if we aren't a cohesive unit we will fall short in this league. So far for this team the proof is in the pudding, look at the performances and results. Bristol Rovers are not going to come here Saturday and roll over either.

Name names then.  Which of the players we've signed are too nice and just coasting through games?

Its very easy to make sweeping generalisations about players, but pretty much every player that we've signed (or at least the senior ones) have a solid history of playing regularly for teams at championship level or higher.  Are we really suggesting the likes of McGoldrick, Chester, Collins, Hourihane, NML, Barkhuizen, Smith have suddenly decided they can't be bothered anymore?  Many of these players turned down championship clubs to come and play here.

Or is it the youngsters we've got on loan or come through the academy, who have their first real chance to prove themselves in senior football, and have just decided sod-it, they never really wanted to be footballers anyway?

Bit of an over the top response to be honest, football is a game of fine margins at professional level. Other sides just seem to want it more in my eyes. I could sit here and type out a detailed analytical style post on every player and my game observations but I literally don't have the time or frankly the inclination.

To me a lot of these other teams we play are full of young lads desperate to move up the football ladder, having a few lads who are just happy to still be playing who have been up there elsewhere is probably part of the problem. The young lads have a lot of energy no question in that but can you really say our pressing is done as a cohesive unit? Doesn't appear that way to me.

  6. I was not a fan of Rosenoir getting let go, would rather he was still here because he would have won a couple more games IMO. Now we've swapped it's clear Warne needs a couple of transfer windows but we have £0 available for fees so he's handicapped immediately.

Here's the thing though, I feel some of these players here are too nice and just came here thinking it would be a nice time getting good pay for L1. Watching the games I feel we get regularly outfought for large periods of games and that is something that will stop Warne achieving anything this season.

Commentary on the Radio Derby last night was excellent: Martin Fisher and Jamie Ward gave a very good account of the game as it unfolded. MF described the action as it flowed and it was clear who was involved by the frequency with which players names were used: eg first 10 minutes Rooney, Dobbin, Oduroh, Knight featured quite a lot as did Wildsmith. From that you can glean who is getting involved in the game early on. Rooney started very well. Dobbin was clearly a threat. other players got seldom mentions eg Thompson. Forsyth was also a rare mention. Admittedly, radio is more of a filter than say TV, but then again our own filters of perception also give a distorted view. So, whilst I accept that player ratings based on the radio is somewhat unreliable, we should get an averaging effect of a number of different ratings supplied by different fans.

The distorting effect of our own perceptual filters and our own player biases is something I will investigate statistically as we compile ratings this season. It will make for a very interesting study as the numbers grow.

Despite all of the above, it is clear to us all who the form players are right now.  BTW, any of you of a betting persuasion, put money on Collins being the Rams FGS on Saturday - he has done everything but score in 3 games and don't forget CM19 took 10 games until he opened his account {v Leicester at home IIRR). **

** "On 22 February 2013, Martin joined Derby County on loan for an initial one-month period.[48] Martin made his Derby debut in a 2–1 loss at Watford on 23 February, as a half time substitute for Michael Jacobs.[49] Martin started his first game for Derby on 1 March, in a 1–0 home defeat to former club Crystal Palace.[50] He scored his first goal for Derby in the final game of his initial month, the club's second in their 2–1 win over local rivals Leicester City on 16 March.[51"

I thought Martin Fisher was good to be fair, I assume he's just filling in?

If I remember correctly Steve Howard also took a while to get off the mark and look how good he turned out to be.

  8. Problem with radio comms these days is they dont really paint a picture of what is happening in the right kind of detail, Graham Richards was amazing at that. Listening to Dawes it sounds like nothing is even happening then a goal goes in and I have no idea of how it came about. Lot of the time I struggle to follow where the ball is on the pitch or who has possession. Hard to rate players on commentary really.

  9. If I was the manager as soon as a player showed they didn't want to be here anymore i'd get rid as fast as feasibly possible, only going to a negative impact on dressing room and a waste of precious resources especially in our current state. Bielik seems like a nice lad so it works out best for everyone involved to loan him out. Byrne I wouldn't even want him to play even if he had to stay after failed legal action.

By that token we wouldn’t have signed half the players we have this summer.

Players like Hourihane have had big deals at Villa, don't think Korey Smith had much better on the table honestly. We've been shrewd for sure but I think serious competition they wouldn't come here.

If that’s the case, you’d hope Wildsmith expected this otherwise you’d immediately find an unhappy player. You just don’t tend to loan a goalkeeper to sit on the bench, especially when you’re in our state.

Wildsmith literally said in his interview that he's here to fight for the no1 shirt which tells you he definitely wasn't signed as our no1 and was told as such.
