You are putting a precedent on this that these people are subscribing to newspapers that they like rather than making subscribing to many newspapers to get a rounded opinion because of the organisation they work in.
This country has one leading ‘left’ newspaper, and then a load more that are right leaning aside The Independent (maybe). So it’s little surprise that The Guardian comes out on top. Mail, Telegraph, Times etc are in much more direct competition if someone is trying to get both sides. To be honest the data probably shows that there are quite a lot subscribing to more right leaning papers than left and against your point.

The only FOI request for this info that I could find was here:- https://pressgazette.co.uk/foi-request-reveals-the-guardian-is-most-popular-newspaper-at-the-bbc/ (pasted below), it highlights a few things, one that your description of 'massively over/under' isn't supported by facts but also how dominant right of centre reporting is in our written media.
You also refer to a common false equivalence in the Mail & the Guardian - You may or may not like the tone of the Guardian but it is a serious newspaper where the Mail, erm, isn't. I mean, it's kind of famous for its sidebar of shame isn't it.
Back (nearly) on topic though, the BBC have been in the govt crosshairs for some time, not necessarily because of any perceived political or idealogical bias (although the latter clearly pays a part with regard to their funding) but because a network that is reporting in a balance manner is clearly still going to be critical of the 2019-2022 government because, regardless of your political leanings, it did leave itself wide open to such criticism.
I dearly hope that local radio survives intact, it's really important, it is a force for good that that sits away from the forces of revenue and profit.

Whilst there are some good podcasts, I think it’s flippant to suggest any of them get close to Radio Derby’s analysis and coverage.

I like Ed Dawes. Don't really understand why people need to continually come out and blast him. No single commentator will appeal to everyone.

Disappointing result yes, but very much heartened by that performance. Once we get a couple of back to back wins and go on a run we will take some stopping.
Darren Robinson made the point a couple of weeks back that because we lost 2 weeks in pre season that it’s kinda shown that we’ve been a couple of weeks off these other teams in terms of fitness. After tonight i think you can see the point he was making because we are starting to keep other sides at arms length for large periods of the game.
Think everything that’s an issue is teachable and nothing to be too alarmed about. Osula is unfortunately very green despite his obvious attributes, great run (and pass by Fozzy) but a bit if composure in front of goal. Cashin needs to time his runs a bit better on corners too, it’s all finishing touches stuff.
For their goal I think Bird or Sibley should be on the edge of the box, Bird looks a free man to me but Sibley has maybe followed a man he didn’t need to into the box?
Pens, neither looked comfortable in the run ups. I’d argue it was a decent save of Collins in the end but McGoldrick just got out done. Penos need to be smashed, arguable straight down the middle at the minute because keepers in this league(inc. Wildsmith) take a step forward and absolutely throw themselves one way or the other.
So yeah, just need to keep ourselves in touching distance of everyone else, I can atleast see a pattern of play and what we are trying to do now.

Why would people who work at the BBC be wanting a paper that generally thinks the BBC is a bad thing? They might take it kind of personal.

I think the BBC is never a perfect institution and you have to take the rough with the smooth, from political coverage, comedy, drama, whatever.
For example, I think Radio 2 has been treading water for a while now because it’s needs a refresh but it’ll take a couple of years for it to really settle down. On the contrary I think 5live is probably coming out of that refresh cycle and is a good listen whether it’s sports or the day programming.
Local radio is probably in need of that refresh period, aslong as the sports coverage is largely unaffected then it’s a case of seeing what happens. What I’d be tempted to say is, if the sport went regional then how much impact would that have say if another club went into administration? Whether it was liked or not Derby County were afforded pretty in-depth daily coverage by our BBC local radio service, not nationally and not regionally. Would a programme that covers Nottingham and Stoke afford us the same coverage?

It's always a tricky balancing act for the BBC - who let's not forget do operations commercially as well (quite successful at selling their shoes in other countries).
There needs to be something of the "good for you" content that simply wouldn't get made on purely commercial grounds and having a broadcaster not totally bound to advertising is a beneficial thing to have. But that has to balance against who pays for it and how much they have to pay.
What I like about the BBC is the news, education and local stuff, what the BBC really like is when they have a hit show and can say look, everyone likes this thing the BBC did.
I don't know the right answer anymore than anyone else on thread but I'd rather the BBC did it's dull but worthy stuff and didn't bother so much on trying to be all singing all dancing. And I do count local radio services in the worthy bracket.
I get better milage out of iPlayer than I did out of the now cancelled Netflix or Amazon prime. Recently tried paramount plus, but I know I can cancel it when we've watched what we want.

Consider not paying the fee every year because I think I don't use it (as an under 35) then remind myself there's at least 4 hours every week dedicated to this stupid third division club plus TMS, World Cup/Euros, MoTD, FA Cup...
For 43p a day I think it's good value and I can tolerate Lineker being "woke" and "socialist" on Twitter or something whilst earning 10% of what Ant or Dec do. Especially when I remember they employed rabid right wingers like David Dimbleby, him what did Mastermind, and Andrew Neil for about 150 years combined, and I didn't mind them.

Now that the DG is an ex Conservative constituency Chairman, and failed Councillor candidate, the reds under the bed must make his job intolerable.

A nice thread from Leigh Curtis and he raises a good point. We can talk about formations, style of play etc all we want but the two biggest problems Derby have are a lack of depth and the market we’ve had to buy in. Warne can’t do anything about those two factors.
