I listened to this on Saturday and thought it raised a good point that maybe isn’t really considered in this. Is that yes, some people are trying to get to the UK because of family but also it’s quicker to get work possibly in the black market (I’m gonna presume they meant by this general cash in hand work as well the more dangerous and dodgy trades). Rory Stewart, who’s view on global politics is largely very good but also a bit too gloomy, proposes that you all countries have to take in refugees that is the equivalent of  1% of your population every year and introduce ID cards so then it’s harder for those that come to enter the black market. I don’t think it’s a perfect policy, but the idea is that you have to deal with the crisis and regulate it rather than trying to wash your hands of it. People don’t want to cross in small boats but what we have in place now makes people feel like they have no other choice.

I think what makes the argument a bit daft on here, is that if this was a discussion about Alan Sugar and his tweet with the picture of Corbyn next to Hitler then nearly everyone’s opinion would be reversed which completely sullies any free speech or impartiality argument.
Some don’t like Lineker and that’s it. I’m not sure you can have a debate on the rights or wrongs on what he said because of it. This is feeling much like the Covid/Politics debates on here where it’s saying things for the sake of it and losing focus on any understanding what the BBC impartiality rules are meant to mean, the BBC managements handling of the case, Linekers phrasing (that I thought was very carefully put) and where our politics is at the minute.
The other thing to acknowledge is that I think we are in a bit of what I call ‘silly season’ where something reaches the zeitgeist and we all argue over something we don’t really need it Wasn’t it Jimmy Carr’s joke last year? Give it a week and we will have sunnier weather, be outside more and Match of the Day saga will be at the back of peoples mind.

This is a good listen, especially some of the ideas on what we can do and also putting our British "crisis" into context. Rory Stewart is excellent at summing up complicated issues in a few sentances. I didn't really understand the Good Friday Agreement and the Northern Ireland Protocal issues until he explained them a couple of weeks ago...

That we adhere to international law and not criminalise refugees and asylum seekers based on their mode of transport.

The more interesting figures will be if the ratings are up or down on iplayer after the weekend. I really doubt 500,000 extra people tuned in because of no pundits, but probably because they were intrigued to see what they would do.

It raises a lot of questions, but safe to say his agent knew where to sniff around

It’s done him no harm at LB, he’s learnt about positioning and how he can help the team. Said this a little while back but I think he’s learnt more under Warne than any other manager we’ve had.
But yes stick him further forward now please and let him mix his raw potential we’ve seen with that bit of nous he’s got from LB
Square pegs in square holes please.

Anyone using a shill like Darren Grimes to prove a point has lost the plot. That lad has got someone else's hand up his arse controlling his mouth.

It's a bit unfortunate for Louie that his best position is the one currently occupied by our Player of the Season so far.
It's also difficult for him to come in and play anywhere near that level with a few snatched moments here and there.
But Louie is our future. If I were him, I'd be learning every little thing I could from McGoldrick and looking to be his natural successor.

Thought it was a really good away performance, they aren’t ideal for all fans because in a way it’s a much poorer game. But we kept our shape well for the most part and we had more players in their natural positions. Also Davies’ character has been needed these last few games.
I like the look of Rooney, getting Springett vital minutes is a huge positive because he’s not been blooded in enough up to now. Also we’ve given time to different ways of playing and a bit of 3-5-2.

All in all a positive afternoon
