It's obvious by your comments to other posters on this thread and another that you're triggered by any slight accusation that Clough didn't do an amazing job at Derby and it's also obvious that despite Clough being removed from his job many, many years ago this is still an emotive topic for you.
He did a good job of stabilising the club I've always said that, whether he was the person to take the club forward history says no.

If that was good management why did Clough then get removed from his job?
Clearly someone else thought otherwise at the club whose opinions mattered more than yours.

It would make anyone smile if it was in fact a double standard.

Watching a manager reduce a squad of overpaid crap to a squad of young hungry players on a bottom 6 budget creep up the league year by year is actually - as I’m sure you’re aware - not the same as what is currently being complained about. Clough outperformed his budget. That’s what good management is. If Warne turns this season into a promotion winning season then he’ll have hit par with his the budget which is the sign of a robust manager who has done his job. Any less would be an underperformance.

It does make me smile the double standards you're touting by advocating that Clough should have got another 2 years on top of his previous 4 years of incremental improvement but on the other hand Warne should be shown the door at the end of this season.

Agreed, this obsession with Clough is rediculous, his Father was a genious (With Taylor at his side, not so great without him), so was Darren Ferguson's neither of those facts make the sons oustanding managers.
Clough has two major faults, firstly he's too negative.  Secondly he seens only capable of motivating his teams to beat clubs he has a beef with.
If he was as great as many die hard Clough lovers claim, why hasn't he been snapped up by a lower half EPL club.  The answer is simple, Clough is at his level!!!!

I’’m not advocating sacking Warne but he’s drinking in the last chance saloon.

Other than a difficult 10 months at Ipswich, Paul Cook has been extremely successful in the lower leagues, with Wigan, Portsmouth, Chesterfield.
he’d cost compensation so wouldn’t happen, but would prefer him to Warnock. I can see why fans are craving for him but it would feel like employing Steve Evans.
Slim pickings for decent managers out there at the moment who are out of work so if it happened then I think Clowes would go for Warnock.
    Cheers

Obviously. I mean he’s been stuck managing in League 2 for the last god knows how many years with no other club interested in having him as their manager, but if we’d have kept him we’d be smashing the Prem. 🙄

I remember us 1 up 30 mins into a game, we had the ball, thier keeper was well off his line and out of the box.  Coutts ran the ball to the corner flag to waste time at home with an hour of football still to play, rather than shooting at distance at an open goal.
Clough stood on the sidelines clapping, that summed up his lack of ambition and his negativity.  Thats why attendances dropped, not fickle fans, just ones who could not believe a team at home would be wasting time rather than take a shot at an open goal....

The long term isn't the manager it's the way you want to play the game and recruit players accordingly. The manager should slot into that system.

We have very different recollections, Clough served up negative terrible football, he's happy not to lose,  I don't spend my hard earmed on hoping for a draw.  His father said he had no ambition and he was right.
I was close to giving up my Season Ticket under his stewardship.....  The crowds dropped massively during his time, says it all really!!!!

This is taken from Owen Bradleys comments on the BBC Sports website:-
The decision by the club will come as a surprise to some, but supporters have become increasingly frustrated by poor performances at home - despite some encouraging displays away.
Nigel Clough steered Derby through some difficult times after one woeful season in the Premier League, but the board have clearly decided he cannot take them any further.

We’d have been to the premier league by now if we’d have kept him… and that would have brought back those fickle fans who stopped attending under him 👀👀

Clough was working under the mindset that we needed to stay in the division first, aim for promotion second, whilst decimating the budget year on year. Did a fantastic job over his time here and some of the attacking football we played at times was as good as anything served up by Mac, it’s just Mac served it up a lot more often and Clough was very very quick to revert back to defensive play whenever things got a bit tough.

Remember the year Southampton went up we were top with them after 4 straight wins at the start of the season playing excellent football. Then a tough run of games happened and he reverted back to dragging ourselves to 50 points.

Tired of the disrespect shown to our most important manager since Jim Smith.

Before you slate me, Clough had a talented team, he was too negative, Stevie Mac turned us into an attacking outfit overnight!!!!  That's not the issue with Warne as we were camped in their half for large spells of the game, that said I was bored stiff today, just like Cloughs football.
I felt like going home at HT, I stayed obviously, the footie got worse not better, we just can not seem to brake teams down that come for a draw!
Stevie Mac part 3 anyone?  The football was never boring, it had us on the edge of our seats............

I think, on the whole, our players are good enough to be doing much better than they are in league 1 but not good enough to play the champagne football we’d all like to see.
Today again, we were just too one dimensional: get the ball out wide and cross it. Cambridge weren’t very good but had enough to deal with our predictable approach. Maybe Warne doesn’t have the players at his disposal to mix things up enough (I accept that statement could be seen as a contradiction of my opening statement) but I’m not convinced he has the tactical ability either. Mixing it it for him seems to consist of NML and Barks swapping wings.
I suspect PW will eventually come good (maybe not this season though) and get us promoted playing his style of football but I’m not convinced and certainly not convinced it will look pretty.
