To clarify, what is your objective case to support your assertion that he is still worthy of the title calamity Bradley?

Not whether he is as good as Nelson or Cashin (I don’t think he is and I have never said he is).

Not based on opinions which, by definition, are subjective not objective.

Not on his record for the whole season. I said right at the start “since he’s put those early blunders behind him”.

Not that he is more likely to make a mistake than Cashin or Nelson (although this is a subjective opinion in itself but I think is true) but that he’s more likely to such an extent to justify the label calamity.

I also think he has made more mistakes (per game time) than either Cashin and Nelson (although I suspect neither of us have the actual stats). Out of the three, he would be a distant third in my pecking order simply because he isn’t such a good footballer and makes mistakes (as all footballers do) but not enough now to justify such name calling.

Feels like we're walking in circles and maybe should have agreed to disagree right from the start but I'll give it a go trying to clarify.

I wrote Calamity Bradley AND Super Sonny to explain that I consider him very uneven. Then you got upset about it and decided it was rude because for some unknown reason I didn't get to count either his early disaster efforts or his latest craziness. I then used player ratings from footmob as a quick approximation because I felt it was enough for a forum post. If you want we can add weaknesses from who scored which are discipline, concentration and tackles. All are a good fit for how I define a calamity central defender.

On top of that, I've seen him make many more big mistakes than Cashin and Nelson who I think are the players I can compare to this season (I haven't seen any other defenders to the same extent off course). I think you'd might agree that he's guilty of some really crazy back passes this season, lost his head and lost concentration in some really important situations?

If you want, please come back with your definition of when the term can be used, so I will keep that in mind from now on. Other than that, I of course hope that Calamity Bradley never shows up again and that we only get to see Super Sonny for the rest of his career.

Firstly, the ratings you have provided do not suggest he is significantly weaker or prone to mistakes than the others. For example, most of us think Nelson is a contender for player of the season and yet his rating is only 0.4 above Bradley’s.

Secondly, if you read my original post you’ll see why I’ve excluded his first few games. I said, once he’d got over those early jitters and fought his way back into the team he had been OK and played well most of the time (or words to that effect). Whereas to label him as Calamity Bradley kind of suggests he has an ongoing problem. He may not be an upgrade on Davies and I don’t take exception with you holding that view. What I did take exception to though was the label you have attached to Bradley.

I wasn’t aiming the comment about Keough specifically at you but I think it’s undeniable that some folk continued to use the phrase “there’s always a mistake in Keough” simply because of that Wembley incident whereas, in reality, he probably didn’t make any more mistakes than most.

P.s. Regarding the Reading game, although it is only a tiny sample size, it seems pretty much everyone that rated the players for that game on this forum gave him a 6.5 or thereabouts.

After all, unlike you, I have presented some kind of objective assessment in which the mistakes are included as a part in any case. You are welcome to present evidence for your opinion that Bradley would not be more likely to make mistakes. Besides that, the fact that he can't handle playing in a back four is another indication. He needs Cashin and Nelson on each side of him so they can carry him. I believe that Bradley has committed more gross mistakes than Cashin and Nelson this season, and after all, he has spent a significant amount of time on the bench from which he has not had the chance to make mistakes. When Bradley is put in a man-on-man situation with a striker or forced to do something more advanced with the ball than pass a few yards to Cashin, I feel like anything can happen. Similarly, when he stands and wrestles with someone or can't win a header because, according to the coach, he had a cold the week before.

And Northampton away was not that long ago either.

What are your figures to back up that statistical conclusion apart from his first few games that I have agreed weren’t great?

I thought the label you had attached to him was just a poor, annd unnecessary, attempt at a bit of humour.

    Ratings:

    Raggett 7.11

    Shaughnessy 7.3

    Santos 7.24

    Cash 7.5

    Nelson 7.1

    Edwards 7.1

    Knight 7.2

    Bradley 6.7

    Curtis Davies 6.9

But you are off course right in your conclusion that if you disregard a few games when he played poorly then it looks better. Might as well take away his games against Northampton and Reading when we are at it. That is however true for all other players as well so forgive me for having a bit of a hard time taking that argument  seriously.

I thought Bradley would be an upgrade on Curtis but for me he really is not. Money wasted so far from the club but that is my opinion. I thought he was great today and hope to see a lot more of that which was my intention to write in my post when I also labelled him Super Sonny.

(And also I really like Keogh before the incident).

This kind of comment really annoys me. He was a fool at Northampton but once he’d overcome the errors in his early days at Derby I don’t believe he’s been that much better or worse than most players. It reminds me of the “Keogh’s always got a mistake in him” stuff we used to see.

Agree to disagree. Was perhaps a bit unnecessary today, but no ill will. Means I hope to see what I think is the real Bradley from now on. Statistically, however, I stand by the fact that he has so far been a disappointment on field with significantly more catastrophic errors than the average centre back in a top team in L1. However, he has every opportunity to come back, but if he had been a young centre back from his own ranks who had a season like this, he would never have had that chance.

    What has happened to NML?

He looks like a man who has forgotten how to play football. He needs a rest I think.

He has been the driving force in our season but when he’s out of form we create little.

Was thinking the same, what is wrong? Need to get him going again fast because without his points I struggle to see us score 3 more goales in total this season (play off games included).

  6. They have played better but we have created the far better chances. We get beaten in the central midfield but look good when we get the chance to counter attack. Think Wash and NML must play a bit better to be honest since they are the reason we only use 2 CM's. Also we have some problem with getting out with the ball from the defenders since they press high up the field and commit with many players. A few good longer passes would give us even more clear cut chances. COYR!

  7. That is the mystery of football. Some players and coaches just seem to fit perfectly in certain teams and others don't fit in at all. Adams seems to have come in just right when he came to us, while for example Dowell never came right in the Derby shirt.

I like Adams, he plays with the right attitude!
