Crystal Palace v Derby County

You obviously should make an appointment at Specsavers.

So what part of my post made me out to be blind? That Palace aren't on great form? That it was their 2nd string? That none of our Players scored? Ward giving the ball away? That we didn't have a proper set piece specialist in dangerous situations (how often do we score direct from a free kick ?). And as the Previous poster said, a clear lack of quality.

I've followed this forum for the past year or so (since the demise of the DET forum) and particular enjoy the posts of B4 for passion & positivity, Duracell for his obvious youth and passion and Uttox for common sense and the fact that i used to live just down the road in Doveridge. Circumstances mean i cannot get to games anymore and tonight was the first game i have seen this season.

For the record I spent every other weekend of the late 80's and early 90's stood on the popside (Vulcan end) and if you asked me who my hero was it would be Bobby without hesitation, closely followed by GG - get well soon Gordon.

Tonight, all in all i am happy with a point, but Palace were clearly there for the taking and we lacked the quality to take advantage. We need at least 2 possibly 3 players of quality to make an impact in this league - not Messi quality, just championship "quality" - something we clearly lack. I realise i am stating the bleedin obvious and i know that many of you fine people have aired similar views. The problem is "quality" players even at this level are hard to find at not cheap - which poses a problem for our Nige.

Did anyone else note Nigel's body language? At around 75 mins (just before "we"score a magnificent equaliser) SKy showed Nige at on the bench with arms folded and with a face like thunder. Surely with 15 mins left in a game we shouldn't be losing he should be on his feet encouraging and directing his team? Struck me as odd but then maybe he knew we were about to score?

much love to all

Artie

Strange name Artiefufkin, but as you lived in Doveridge I can believe its a real name... hi there uttox

i've not lived in the area for 20 odd years but seem to recall big Reg - nice bloke with mullet and a beard back in the late 80's... as was the fashion.... probably still is in those parts. If memory serves me right (and if we're talking the same bloke) he used to play upfront for Doveridge in the summer league. Nige could do with his not inconsiderable presence up front now methinks.

Don't recall Cyril although I was a regular in the Cavendish Arms circa 1990 so probably bumped into him at some point.

Can you change you profile pic back to Uch'iter train station? - took me right back.

Thats the one mate. Big Reg, not much of the mullet left now and he's grown wider! Still a season ticket holder and lives in Utch now. Regular in the Black Swan.

Still larger than life and taking the pee out of the local Stokies....christ nows how given our respective positions!

Glad you had a good night MuespachRam but I think you were watching a different game to me!

Palace were definitely there for the taking but second half we played like Arsenal with our give and go, really enjoyed watching us for a change. With Theo or Tyson up top think we'd have won easily. Actually thought Bailey did very well and was surprised he went off and not Hendrick (thogh probably a bit tired from 3 in 7 days on his way back from injury). Green star man. Only real weak link Ben Davies, though Priskin was pretty anonymous.

The end of the match was impressive and it was genuinely entertaining. It was an enjoyable game in summary due to this. I thought Mason Bennett gave a great performance, he was working hard and winning loose balls up front. It's just a shame he overplayed a chance on goal that he could have scored. But he passed it to Priskin and flopped the overhead kick that came from the return ball.

Apart from his mistake early on that could have easily leaked a goal, Roberts was impressive. He looks great going forward and managed to deliver in a decent cross.

It was Ward's first poor performance of the season I thought. It was his mistake on the edge of the 18 yard box that resulted in their goal. Awful place to give the ball away.

But I'm really glad we've just stopped the rot and got something away from home. I just don't understand why we can't keep the ball on the floor all game???

Ha! Had a good night then even though it got switched to Friday? Glad for ya.

Disagree about Bailey though. I think he's very good. He keeps us ticking with mostly reliable passing. We always play better with him in the side because the team seem to latch onto his passing game. He's a natural DM but unfortantley he isn't great in the tackle. None of them are good in that department tbf.

It's opinions though. Some people think B.Davies has been good for us because of his assists. I suppose it's what you expect from a certain position.

I think Bailey was at slight fault for their goal though. I know Ward lost it but Bailey was stood ball watching when two attackers were wondering 2 yards behind him.

Yes Please. We look so much better and the two in midfield have got enough energy to run up and down all day long. We don't need a fifth in there.

They have energy mate but their a bit weak and inexperienced. They also never make the second ball.

Atleast with numbers they have a 'man over' to pass short to. A man extra to win a loose ball and a few bodies to harass opponent possession.

I know at times Priskin might aswell of gone and sat in the stands because he was that lonely, but I think that was down to no CM getting within 10 yards of him in the first half. That left Ward and Davies to serve attacks.

I think the CMs should have an understanding where they can use that energy to visit Priskin occasionally. Or they shouldn't play a flat 5.

Atleast at Palace we had a foothold and could control our own destiny. Last time we played 442 I thought we were sooo submissive.

IMO.

Not long back in Derby after a good 24 hours , topped off by a tour of Wembley - if you haven't done it, it was superb (and you get 25 per cent off if you're a season tickedt holder of a league club).

As for the game, the best aspect was the fact that for once we took the match to an opponent in the second half instead of accepting a 1-0 defeat. In the end we were playing three up front and being bold brought its reward. Nigel, take note!

Green was excellent, as was Ward, and Barker looked more like it. The defence generally looked more solid than it has done for ages.

The view of a mate of mine who's a Palace fan was that we were crap in the first half and totally outplayed Palace in the second.

I thought it was a good point overall and left the ground pretty happy.

first half was awful and it looked like more of the same, the second half far far better. If you want my opinion nigel had 45 minutes to save his job because he was aggressive in his tactical choices and he changed it round, something which he hasn't done since he has been here. We put pressure on from 45 minutes till the 90 minutes and deserved the point. Ward looked a constant threat and green played well at right back second half, even if in the first half his positioning was off. I am not convinced by the partnership of shackell or roberts, first half looked very nervous and whenever they got into our half they looked like they might get a goal, second half even though they weren't busy palace still had a couple of bites of the cherry to get a second.

Overall I am pleased with the second half however the first half was a worrying picture and how we still only performed well in one half. We did stop the rot but we did not win, we need to win soon as it is now one win in twelve, but if we repeat the second half performance consistently we should be fine.
