dabber
i didnt say we should sell him immediatly, but when hes ready to make a step up we could make a good profit on him. I agree with the Bunny that would go against everything that Clough is trying to do and if we have to sell him rather than have him help us become a big club again then all this long term planning will be for nought. It could well be that GSE and their masters would love to cash in but if that happens against Nige's wishes he would pack his bags I would think. p.shilton
I am generally against selling promising young players but if someone was to offer stupid money- And I mean ridiculous- for any of our youngsters we would be stupid not to take it, but only if it is invested in the squad. At the end of the day if one exceptional player can provide the funds to bring in 3 0r 4 very good players then you have to take the hit for the progression of the club. uttoxram75
Its pointless worrying about young players and what might happen. Look at Walcott and Oxtail-Soupberlain who Southampton couldn't keep hold of. If the top 5 or 6 clubs come a knockin' there's very little you can do. Rooney and Ronaldo were still 18 when Manure spent £30m and £12m on them. All Derby can do is try and persuade the lad's parents that he may be better to play a few seasons here rather than be in a huge talented squad at Chelski or Oman City and not get a game. By all accounts, Izale Mcleod and Paris Simmons were as highly rated as Mason at the same age, so anything can happen yet.
Asanovic
Why are we worrying about him now he's doing well? We won't let him go for anything less than a good fee, specially now he's played well for England, on TV.

The flip side is though you are sitting with ~20M burning a hole in your pocket and all the selling clubs know it and will ask inflated prices for their very good players. There is also no guarantee that those brought in would collectively be better than the exceptional player leaving. I would rather have the next Rooney playing with us (without the transplants, Granny shagging and stupid sendings off of course!)

If you have one exceptional player and he gets injured or loses form you are f'ed. One exceptional player is nice to have but 3 very good ones would have more of an impact
CumbrianRam
Can we just let the guy develop before talking about muti-million pound transfers?
p.shilton
Exactly my point- lets see how good these players are first. I was merely speculating on the whole that ultimately all players are for sale if the money is right
Leicester Ram
im all for selling selling young players IF they are going to go for silly cash. We need money for players. One young player wont take us up, and even if they did, they'd be snapped up by a permanent PL team.
Leeds Ram
I will echo other points made on here, let's see how he develops before getting carried away, Paris Simmons was rated as the next big thing and look where he is now.
