DERBY County say they are still in talks with Mansfield Town about signing young defender Tom Naylor.

"I don't think that one is dead in the water yet," said Rams manager Nigel Clough.

"Tom is a young player, at 20, who we feel could develop and improve into a Championship player."

Naylor played for Derby's Reserves last month and is also attracting interest from Burnley.

Tom Naylor: Close to sealing a move to Derby County from Mansfield Town

Mansfield are resigned to losing the central defender after he attracted the interest of a host of clubs.

Naylor has enjoyed trials at [url=http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer'>http://topics.skysports.com/fulham/?section=football]Fulhamhttp://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer and Championship duo Derby and [url=http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer'>http://topics.skysports.com/burnley/?section=football]Burnleyhttp://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer over the last couple of months, while [url=http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer'>http://topics.skysports.com/bournemouth/?section=football]Bournemouthhttp://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer also had a bid rejected for his services last month.

Derby are now believed to have agreed a fee with Mansfield for the 20-year-old and they are expected to secure his signature.

Naylor is believed to have impressed Rams boss [url=http://topics.skysports.com/Nigel+Clough/?section=football]Nigel Cloughhttp://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer during his training stint at Pride Park and he has moved to tie up a move for the player.

So he's a centre back? good because we dont have enough of them 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mellow' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I think primarily he is a centre back but can also play on the left. I agree we have enough centre backs, but young, decent out and out left backs are at a premium right now, so I reckon Clough might have the right idea with this lad. He's only twenty years old and is apparently very quick, so I'm feeling optimistic.

Leacock is on his way out. Anderson and Riggot are both the wrong side of 30 and injury prone. Going forwards, Shackell and Barker with O'brien and Naylor as cover seems reasonable to me.
