Non league rubbish - don't want him.

I have to disagree with this attitude because the thing is that Mansfield were in League Two not so long ago. So had Tom come up through the ranks only a few years ago he wouldn't be "non league rubbish".

Also, Crewe haven't been far off dropping to the conference before so if fate had gone a little differently then John Brayford and James Bailey could have been "non league rubbish" and who'd want them? FFS lol. I make a well-thought reply and find that he was taking the piss. I wish forums had an irony detector.

DERBY County are hoping to strike a deal with Mansfield Town to sign their young defender Tom Naylor.

The Rams are in talks with the Stags about Naylor, who impressed during a run-out for the club's reserves earlier this month.

He recently also had a trial with Premier League side Fulham, while Burnley, Charlton Athletic and Bournemouth have all shown an interest in snapping up the 20-year-old.

Naylor, who is primarily a centre-half but can also operate at right-back, has come through the youth ranks at Mansfield.

He spent the 2009-10 season on loan at Belper Town and was player of the year.

His form for the Nailers earned him a two-year professional contract at Field Mill.

He also had a one-month loan spell with Alfreton Town last October.

Mansfield are thought to want around £50,000 for the player, who would move on loan initially.

Naylor has made three appearances for Blue Square Bet Premier side Mansfield this season and been sent off twice.

He was harshly dismissed for a second bookable offence late on in Tuesday's 3-1 win at Wrexham.

Burnley manager Eddie Howe has confirmed that Mansfield defender Tom Naylor will spend time with the club this week.

The 20-year-old is highly coveted by a number of teams with both Derby County and Fulham having the youngster on trial this summer.

League One side Bournemouth were the only team to lodge a bid for Naylor but it was understood to have been well below the Stags' valuation of the player.

Manager Paul Cox is resigned to losing Naylor but told the club's official website his opportunities to train elsewhere are quickly running out: "This will probably be Tom's final opportunity [on a trial].

"We want to keep Tom here if no club is to meet our valuation."

Mansfield find themselves in a great position to play hard-ball with any potential suitors for Naylor with the club being backed by multi-millionaire and lifelong Stags fan John Radford.
