Steve Cotterill admits the ongoing uncertainty regarding the ownership of Nottingham Forest has led to him missing out on a number of transfer targets.

The Reds desperately need to get bodies on board, with last season's struggles highlighting their lack of strength in depth.

Cotterill's hands are tied, however, as the estate of former owner Nigel Doughty continue to discuss the sale of the club with interested parties.

Until that matter has been resolved no fresh faces can be brought in and those who find themselves out of contract cannot be offered fresh terms.

"If I thought the squad was lacking balance before, I don't know how to describe it now," Cotterill, who has already seen [url=http://topics.skysports.com/Garath+McCleary/?section=football]Garath McCleary,http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer [url=http://topics.skysports.com/Paul+Anderson/?section=football]Paul Andersonhttp://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer and [url=http://topics.skysports.com/George+Boateng/?section=football]George Boatenghttp://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer leave the club, told the Nottingham Evening Post.

"A few players who I had identified as possible signings have already been snapped up by other clubs.

"I am not going to name them now, as that would not be fair on them or the clubs they have signed for, but it is happening already, we are missing out on one or two signings.

No point

"I still have a list of players who I would like to sign, and it is not as if all of them have been signed up by other clubs just yet, but there is no point in speaking to them too much at the minute because we cannot offer them anything.

"Hopefully we will be able to get started on these things sooner rather than later. I am sure we will still be able to get some of our targets."

Cotterill believes the loan market could prove beneficial to Forest, with a number of short-term deals aiding the club's survival bid last season.

"I would not rule out bringing in a few players on a season-long loan basis," he said.

"I think that can work well if you have the right player, and we have used the loan market well in the past.

"But it has to be the right player, there is no point in signing just anyone for the sake of it."

Nottingham Forest - had a good 3 years between 77 and 80 and haven't stopped banging on about it since! and been ****e ever since too. 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ph34r' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Just not true, we had successful years in the first division before the PL era, good finishes.

Unless you count only winning trophies as success. And we've still got far more of those than you.
