I'm no motor racing fan, but his voice is legendary.
And quotes attributed to him even more so, including...

"The lead car is unique, except for the one behind it which is identical."

"There's nothing wrong with the car except that it's on fire."

"And now, excuse me while I interrupt myself."

"And that just shows you how important the car is in Formula One Racing."

Perhaps one for the "National Treasures" thread?

Rest in peace, sir.

Sith Happens

Loved his emotion. Him struggling to fight back the tears of joy when Damon Hill won the title,  and fighting back the tears of anguish when James Hunt died.

Proper gentleman.

Part of my childhood. Back when only three, four and five channels to choose from, Sundays indoors were generally accompanied by Walker commentary on Senna, Prost, Piquet and Mansell.

Didn’t realise he retired 20 years ago though! But was and is a legend. RIP

Some of my earliest memories of F1 were him and Hunt commentating. After a bristling beginning, even the irascible Hunt clearly developed a huge respect for Murray's passion and endlessly youthful enthusiasm. His love for the sport was truly infectious.

RIP Murray ?

I thought Rush was a brilliant film.

The biggest compliment (as a fan from that era) I can pay MW is to say it would have been waaaaay better with him commentating in it. Pretty sure Hunt would have loved that too.

Like Peter Alliss with golf and Harry Carpenter with boxing, they ruled their areas of expertise and made people who weren't even arsed about the sport love it nonetheless.
