Honestly, I'd written us off on the first day. Such a shame Pope fell short of his double, but what and innings in the context of the game, Vital runs from Foakes, Ahmed and Hartley too and with 3 down, we very much have a game on our hands. If we could somehow nick this first test, it'd be an absolutely huge result, with all the pressure then piled on India to respond. Pure sporting theatre this and the reason test cricket so often provides levels of jeopardy and drama matched by few, if any other sports. What a belting test match, irrespective of the outcome. If this is a sign of things to come, watching these two sides battle it out over the coming weeks is going to be a real treat.
