RAMesses III
What has happened to Derby applying pressure to the opposition high up the pitch. Haven't seemingly been doing it for a while. Why is this? Change in tactics or not got the players?
Norman
Nugent does it, but not fast enough. Bryson is supposed ti follow but doesn't do it fast enough, leaving Waghorn and Lawrence to cut the passing lanes down the side off. But Lawrence wasnt interested in doing that either. You have to go as one. We tried first half. Kind of worked. Second half, Nugent was blowing, Waghorn had a dead leg, and Bryson was even further off the pace. Lawrence was doing what Lawrence does. Leaving Malone 2 on 1 and not getting across to help.

When he runs his legs look like they are going a million miles an hour but he always gets captured...Sorry Nuge.
1of4
Never mind the pressing game. We need to get our passing game sorted out first. Our passing last night was appalling. The times we tried to pass the ball in the second half, when we weren't just launching it up the pitch, the ball ended up with an opposition player and not who the the pass was intended for. Millenniumram
WAt the start of the season we were pressing as good as I’ve seen us in a long time, pushing up the team as a unit and getting in the right places to win the ball high up the pitch and constantly force the opponents into their own half. We did it brilliantly against West Brom and Middlesbrough. The only problem really was sometimes we over committed and got caught, but we were strong in the tackle and actually looked like a decent attacking team. In the last couple of months tho, it’s all changed. We look scared to make any sort of tackle, and even when someone does make it the whole team seems to have become incredibly weak and we literally never come away with the ball. Makes it so so easy for the opposition to get out their own half, and to compound problems we seem to press only as individuals (Nugent, Marriott) while the others sit back and just allow the opposition to cut through us because no one is ever in position to cut anything out. We look ridiculously easy to play against, almost like a team of strangers at times who have no idea where to put themselves, or indeed for that matter where to move to to give an option when we’re attacking. We just gift the oppposition the ball and they come again and again. Frankly, we’ve looked lost for a long while now and haven’t really played well since October. We look devoid of any intelligence or movement going forward and we’ve got no defensive organisation at the back either. Truth be told we just look poor and we can’t keep denying it or making excuses. Honestly haven’t seen us play so poorly for so many league games since clough was in charge (mainly because blockheads reign was cut short very quickly!). Something has to change quickly imo. If we are to stay in the top 6 you’re right it will have to change quickly, not sure why we can’t put those West Brom Boro away united and Chelsea performances more often I expect us to be a little inconsistent but we aren’t turning up more times than we are

We can no longer seem to play out from the back, just ended up launching it. Even simple passes are going awry and we never seem to turn possession over. Like you say you can expect inconsistency from a young team, but right now we’re being outplayed week in week out, often by teams who have supposedly far weaker players, but play far better and press far better as teams. Bald Eagle's Barmy Army
I have a feeling we are going to get stronger and stronger for the end of the season. With our games until the end of March, there’s no reason why we shouldnt be knocking on the door of automatics. Cole and Bogle fullbacks next game, king to come in, Marriott back. Now doesn’t that sound much stronger. COYR

Shang
I think Frank has realised that we haven’t got the defenders to be able to play the pressing game yet. When the front 6 press it leaves the centre backs really exposed and we haven’t got the quality to play out from the back as soon as there is a bit of pressure on us. I think he’s revised the way we press by having Marriott and Nugent stealing the ball from behind their defenders from an off-side position rather than having our front half move as a unit.
