Certainly made hard work of this haven't we! At the halfway point Northants needed 140 with only 5 wickets left.

To be fair Northants bat deep, and it was pretty comfortable really, it’s the fact I t’s derbyshire you’re expecting them to rooster it up ?

Championship game being played at Chesterfield against Norhants.

not started well at all, Slater (0) Godleman (10) Madsen (11) Hughes (12) all gone cheaply, Hosein into the 30s has at least got us going.

Ferguson not playing due to NZ cricket not wanting him over played, Rampaul also not playing, so young lads Wheeldon & Qadri with a lot to do, especially as a big score from us looks very unlikely.

Absolutely nip-and-tuck game now. Wickets have been falling in twos and threes all day, then a half-century partnership, then another bunch of wickets. When Northants reached 50-0 off 8 overs, I feared the worst - in steps Tony Palladino with two wickets in his first over after changing to the Pavilion end (I used to love bowling from that end too. It's not much of a slope, but I always found the lake duck pond end a bit of a slog.

Great day of cricket all round - hopefully tomorrow is as good.

Another fantastic day's cricket. The game looked to be tilting in Derbyshire's favour after tea, with Madsen and Slater both approaching half-centuries but both became becalmed. Slater, Hughes and night-watchman Wheeldon all went in the space of half an hour, so the familiar pattern for this game is still being followed. It seems to be a wicket that offers batmen a bit of a challenge to actually get in.

At the close, Derbyshire lead by 118 with six wickets in hand. A target of 250 will not be easy (somebody slip something in Alex Wakely's tea).

It was also bloody hot.

Madsen needs to bat until at least lunch. If the tail wags a bit and we can set them 250 plus we are in with a shout.....

Excellent first session, Madsen & Hosein batting through most of it before Hosein fell for 38. Madsen 9 runs away from a century and Critchley up to 23 already.

249-5 leads at 220 ?

Lead now 250 with Madsen and Critchley still there...got a chance...

Over to the bowlers.

I think we'd have took this position at every point of the game so far.

Let's hope Viljoen can keep his radar on course and not quickly turn this 313 into 250.

Palladino and the spinners likely to be key.

Faded badly in the last couple of hours - far too many four balls, but Northants rode their luck too with a few edges not going to hand.

Early wickets tomorrow morning are key - a couple in the first 10 overs and it's game on again, but Northants definitely on top now. Wakely looking so assured again - he has been the difference between the two sides.

Yes, it is theirs to lose...

Watched the “highlights” on Facebook this morning.

Critchley so unlucky to be run out, at the non strikers end and the ball deflected off the bowler from the batsman’s shot, with Critchley moving forward and out his crease. Such a shame as he was looking good.

need a quick 2 or 3 wickets to stand a chance.
