I remember a similar argument when some were saying Andy Cole was the best striker in the league when he was playing for UTD, until somebody checked on chances on goal - to goals scored ratio. Sexydadbod Posted July 22, 2016 Share Posted July 22, 2016 I think why people have come with the interpretation that Russell has no end product is because a lot of his goals and assists, like Martin come in 5/6 game spells. He plays well for 5/6 games which contribute to his stats then struggles for 5/6 games. I don't really like to look at goal/assist these days because they can be easily manipulated to support a claim. I prefer to see the stats where they show how important their goals/assists were like the 22% stat as someone else said which is very impressive imo. The frustrating thing with Johnny is that he creates a bit of magic (see assist v Preston) but then a month later he can't pass the ball 5 yards. I think that's the reason why he is still a championship player. I'd keep him because he is a good championship winger and there are other positions we should prioritize before thinking getting rid of one of the most liked players in the dressing room.
