Martin won't be back for Tuesday, but probably will for Saturday from what I've read/heard. Bent will probably be out for a couple weeks, so who plays up front v Brighton?

Russell is an option but after his injury is he ready to start a game? Other options are Dawkins or Thomas. I'm not sure who will be played to be honest.

because this is in the thread called striker dilemma?

  • Can't really blame Bent's efforts against Fulham. Even he can't score a cross which hits the first man. He is great finisher, but not that great.

  • Recall Conor Sammon

Tough call. At this point, I would go with Russell.

Russell.

Ward is the other one who has occasionally played down the middle I think. Not seen enough of Thomas to know if he would fit the bill apart from a small cameo at Leeds when he missed a good chance.

Thomas, as the only recognised striker in the squad, has to play if we stick to the current formation.

Russell is not match-fit yet and has not played in the forward role since he played for Dundee Utd, would be risky to say the least dropping him in the deep end.

Alternatively, switching formations to something similar to a 5-3-2 might work and push the two wingers more central?

Vernam

:(we need Martin back for Brighton , he has a cracking record vs them but don't think he'll be ready, gotta be JR

Albentosa:ph34r:

Lingard played striker often at Brum and Brighton

442 Lingard and Russell. None of the strikers we have can play in the 1 up front role

In all seriousness though, I'm worried how we can even think to be playing our normal game without a recognised striker who can play in that role (and is used to doing so). Forcing Russell or someone else to change his usual game to fit in that position will end in disaster.

Switch to 4231 with Dawkins behind Russell (if fit)

No quote buttons yet again........ but recalling conor sammon isn't the daftest idea.

desperate times etc.

Wow we really are in dire straights just to even think about recalling Sammon

Even if that was being considered wouldn't the 2 clubs in a season rule make it impossible? Ipswich & Rotherham so that world mean he can't play for us right?

Printing the 'give us our Conor back' banner as we speak

4-4-2 with those 2 upfront would also require another 2 wingers...

Surely a fashion of 5-3-2 would be more appropriate for balance, otherwise it effectively become 4-2-4 with 4 wingers!
