He strolled through it really. Very, very right footed though (but it is a very good right foot). His English is coming on too. Maybe his better position will be as a right sided centre back.

1-0 to Man U at half-time - a bit of a soft goal from a corner in the 8th minute.

But Derby largely dominating, playing very good stuff. Their commentators saying how good we look and that their keeper's been much the busier. A Premier League moment right on half-time. Brilliant run by the Derby right back, going a long way, and then an intelligent ball into Vernam in the box. Vernam about to shoot with no one in front of him when the desperate defender running back, runs straight into Vernam who is strong enough to stay on his feet as the defender tumbles. Ref blows. Everyone thinks it's a penalty as Vernam couldn't get his shot away with hte guy barging into him, but it turns out to be a mysterious foul by the Derby centre forward. Even the commentators were embarrassed.

Lost 2-0. Apparently that confirms Man U's place in the U18 top 4 playoffs and means we can't qualify. An unfortunate second goal at the start of the secod half. One of their forwards shot from a cross, it was well blocked but fell perfectly at the feet of another striker in red who had an easy finish. We pressed hard throughout and tried to play good football a lot of the time, but we lacked a cutting edge in and around their box and Man U defended well throughout. Having dominated the first half (with the wind at our backs), we had fewer chances second half. One cleared off the line, but rarely looked like breaching their defence.
