The Rams are back...

...to finish the job.

Normally I'd favour some long winded statistical take on how we went last season, how we did under McClaren, how we did under Clough, how we did for late goals, who was most effective in terms of points per game (PPG), goals and assists per 90 (g/90, a/90 respective) and such. But let's just be blunt about this, let's forget the numbers, the analysis, the colourful lines this of season, and just look at where we are right now, and where we were.

12 months ago, we came into a season with our major signing being Johnny Russell. John Eustace had joined, to many's confusion, and with some in the camp of "the top six is possible" and many writing off our season as another dour season of Nigel. What transpired went beyond anyone's expectation. We started as a midtable side, with Nigel ultimately falling in the most clich

Let's hope you're right Albert. On paper, with no Thorne or Wisdom, and no signings that will walk into the team to replace another player, the first team is weaker than the one that finished the season.....

This will be a tough season, don't forget that for a second, no matter what happens on opening day, no matter what happens any day. Just remember that this off season the club have done anything and everything we could have ever reasonable expected of them. If we fail this season, it's because we have been outdone, not because we've been run poorly.

Said in another thread. It is stronger than the team that started last season...

I feel we are in good shape as the new season is almost upon us.Are we above and beyond better than last season? I do not feel so,but the squad has improved and I am confident this season will be a long,stress-inducing one that will ultimately lead to the promised land of the premiership.

Sadly, despite this turn around under McClaren, we ultimately ended 3rd, despite being clearly top two under his command.

We were never 2nd for very long at all. We spent more time at 3rd or 4th than we did at 2nd. "Clearly under his command" is a complete untruth.

Inspiring speech though.

From the Leeds game until the end of the season (McClaren's first game in charge):

1 Leicester: 2.194444444

2 Derby County: 2.027777778

3 Burnley: 1.944444444

4 Brighton and Hove A 1.638888889

5 Wigan Athletic 1.631578947

6 Queens Park Rangers 1.540540541

7 Blackburn Rovers 1.527777778

8 Middlesbrough 1.527777778

9 Bolton Wanderers 1.5

10 Ipswich Town 1.5

11 Bournemouth 1.472222222

12 Reading 1.444444444

13 Sheffield Wednesday 1.297297297

14 Nottingham Forest 1.277777778

15 Charlton Athletic 1.216216216

16 Leeds United 1.194444444

17 Watford 1.166666667

18 Huddersfield Town 1.083333333

19 Millwall 1.027777778

20 Doncaster Rovers 0.945945946

21 Barnsley 0.944444444

22 Birmingham City 0.944444444

23 Yeovil Town 0.888888889

24 Blackpool 0.75

That's just a raw dump of that table (in points per game from when McClaren took over), but no, we most certainly were top 2 (that's about 4 points over the course of a season by the way) since McClaren came in. The issue was that we started from where we were under Nigel. We'll never know if we'd have done better or worse had McClaren come in earlier, but it is most certainly a fact that we were a very clear second since he did.

Right, but top two was never in his hands. You make it sound like we were 2nd but we dropped the ball.

Sorry if it came across as that. I meant (as posted) that the team was from the point he arrived the second best in the league (as backed by the league table). I will make sure these kinds of point are made more directly in the future.

We were 2nd for about 3 days, at the turn of the year after the win at Barnsley.

Oddly enough, that was after 23 games, the exact halfway point. Everyone had played everyone once in the league, and we were 2nd. If everyone in the league got exactly the same results against each other again, we'd have gone up automatically.

They have not done everything that everyone had expectations of them doing , you can not speak for everyone  .

Would have liked a couple more class players , but lets see how we go.
