Derby County are still interested in making a move for Birmingham City winger Chris Burke next month.

Former Rams boss Nigel Clough wanted Burke on board when he was in charge.

But a summer move was shelved when Birmingham took up their one year option on the player.

Burke’s St Andrew’s deal runs out this summer though.

And new Derby manager Steve McClaren is expected to continue the club’s pursuit.

McClaren has steered Rams into fourth place in the Championship since taking over from Clough.

And he will want to keep that momentum going by adding key January signings.

Burke turned 30 this week but is considered to be one of the best wingers in the Championship.

Birmingham boss Lee Clark will not want to lose any more key players this season after seeing star men like Nathan Redmond and Curtis Davies sold last summer.

But the club’s dire financial situation means that Burke may be one of the few players at St Andrew’s who could fetch decent money.

Derby are on the up and will consider a bid for the Scot once the window opens.

McClaren has already said wants to sign Tottenham’s Simon Dawkins on a permanent deal next month.

Dawkins has impressed while on loan at the iPro Stadium. - http://www.sportsdirectnews.com/football-news/36933-derby-target-brum-winger.php?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter#.UqHNlvRdWFc
