i would like to know how wolves have such good odds

considering they have been crap for a while now and florest actually looked a better side than them which has hardly been the case all season, must be slightly worrying

they also seem to have mental issues, they get reds every other week and seem to be in mass brawls every game

We will still be under the business plan and so won’t be able to spend anything will we ?

there is no way the efl will let us spend a tonne of money just a year out of the verge of extinction

nor do i want us to spend loads regardless

I did prefer Liam Rosenior style of play and with the players he recruited, given more time it would have got better. Since being at Hull City his league results are not outstanding, but he took on a struggling team that were one point off relegation but in his 21 league matches in charge, Hull have only lost 5 times and are currently 9 points clear of relegation. Building from the back, keeping possesion, having more possession means the opponents don't have the ball to hurt you.

agreed and i think the higher you go in the leagues the more possession football becomes relevant.

how far realistically can warne's football take us?

i dont wanna knock the guy as i think hes doing an okay job, but there will come a point where his football will only take you so far.

Having only one player (GK) between the ages of 22 and 31 says to me it is a less than ideal squad cobbled together quite impressively. I think we’ve done brilliantly this year

    fair enough.

with the squad we have assembled it should be in the top 6, we arent far off but to say its an exceptional season is well over the top

  5. 1 hour ago, Jram said:

Come on, everyone. We haven’t signed a player for money in 3 years. This should be on a banner at the top of the forum

GIVEN THE CONTEXT, WEVE HAD AN EXCEPTIONAL SEASON

oh come on " an exceptional season" is going well over the top.

most teams in this league would swap for our squad in an instant, i bet we have one of if not the biggest wage bill in the division despite not signing a player for money.

half the league dont spend any money, you can include several of the teams we are competing against in that

From 20 minutes in to half time, we suffocated them and created a couple of good chances. But that's it, one deflected cross and Didzy missing a sitter. The rest of the game there was a gap a mile wide between the midfield and the strikers and we were pumping the ball over the top for two men who would take a week to finish the 100m.

How many times do we have to concede on the counter before Warne acknowledges that end-to-end football doesn't work with a squad as slow as ours? I actually facepalm when I hear him say he doesn't mind being caught on the break.

did he say that? where is the quote

Because these players can’t last more than 45 to 60 minutes without blowing a gasket. Look at any clips from Rotherham last season and this team is as far away from his type of team in all fairness. His team is more of Barnsley and Ipswich who today were fitter sharper more athletic and had a core squad of players from 22 to 30 in their prime. We either have inexperience school kids or the oaps who can’t hack a full game. Beating in mind both teams have played the same games the same with Peterborough and Plymouth who has more in the tank compared to us. Granted we didn’t have a full pre season.

I see a high turnover in the summer of the rules get relaxed and I’m not saying we are going to pay loads of money but expect about 8 players in in the 22 to 30 bracket with a bird and cashin sold to manoeuvre in the window

been saying it all season, said it in pre season and i got shot down for it. either people want to ignore or they dont realise how difficult it is to complete 90 mins regularly in your 30s.

it was plainly obvious this would become a problem, i thought it would happen over the xmas period but a few months delayed.

if players in their 30s could complete full 90s regularly nobody would sign players under 30

I dont need to define lying as its everyday meaning is well understood.

Your extremely strong statement that "there is no chance DC would have brought the club with the eye of taking 5 years to become an established championship club" ignores what DC said himself in the interview which is all we have in the public domain.  My reading of this is the word "established" is key. You were strongly disagreeing with what DC is on record as saying hence my query as to whether you thought he was lying in the interview as your opinion was so certain. If in fact you are one of his inner circle then I apologise.

Please dont refer to me as "fans like you". You know nothing about me whatsoever as shown by your comment.  I have never stoked division and never will especially as I have no illusions about anyone taking notice of anything I say.  I adore DC and am one of the happy we have a club gang. I never said you wanted his head on a stick. I am not petty or pathetic and never have been but do not like people wildly throwing in statements as fact as part of their letting off steam. Again if you are in DC's close circle I apologise.

who said its anything to do with DC that you are stoking division? that post prooves that. i am in exactly the same boat as you when it comes to DC, the man saved the club FFS .

you are overly sensitive about my comment saying he is not telling the truth, which i dont think he is. if you GENUINELY believe that his ambition is to have us in the championship in 5 years then you really are niave, to suggest otherwise is delusion

its not a critique of clowes at all, just how i see it. AND HOW IT IS.

I’ve seen the argument before that you have to reduce the length of matches if you introduce more accurate timekeeping, but why?

Rugby (both codes) is a much more physical game than football and they didn’t reduce matches from 80 minutes when they introduced the ability for referees to stop the clock.  We have more subs than ever before - you can alter half the outfield team if you want - better pitches, medical staff, kit including footballs, training, dietary advice and all the rest of it, why can’t they play a full 90 minutes?  If they want to stop the ref from extending the time they’re on the pitch then they should stop all the play acting and nonsense that goes on in the name of ‘professionalism’. Does my head in.

As a starting point the football authorities and referees have to do something. I thought the world cup might be the start but seemingly no one has the courage to take it further

because if sean dyche and neil warnock rock up for a game the game could last about 2 hours if you dont reduce the base time of the game

i dont follow rugby so i cant comment on it.

    Thats not what was said

its not what i said either.

define "lying", because if you class playing down expectations as lying then yes hes lying.

but i dont want to call the guy a liar because i respect him and what he has done for this club. i am hugely on DC side, fans like you are keen on stoking division which is not what i am looking for. I am behind everyone at the club, trying to suggest that i am calling david clowes a liar and want his head on a stick is petty and pathetic. you and everybody else know what i am trying to say

In the recent interview in Marketing Derby, which many people will have read, David Clowes said that he hoped to see Derby established in the Championship sometime within the next 5 years.

I don't think therefore that he's basing his plans on instant promotion, and he'll definitely give Warne a full season, so all that fans agitating for change will do is stir up a load of negativity around the club which is entirely uncalled for.

he may of said that but his actions suggest otherwise. i think hes just playing down expectations

there is no chance DC would have brought the club with the eye of taking 5 years to become an established championship club.

  12. i think time wasting is footballs biggest condundrum because its not just about wasting time its about killing the game which leads to long periods of nothingness.

when real madrid beat liverpool 5-2 the other day, real madrid were "time wasting" at 2-0 down, but really they were just controlling the game by playing at their pace. they took an age for every goal kick and throw in whilst liverpool did everything at 100 miles per hour. as the game went on it became more and more obvious how much control real madrid had of the game and liverpool was just running around like headless chickens

for me it has got to be administered through a stop clock and not bookings. but if you do that you have got to reduce time of matches and you could get matches 110 mins + long even with a reduced amount of time. I think there was a burnley match under Dyche where the ball was in play for something daft like 45 minutes of the 90!

i dont think there is an easy answer if there was it would have been introduced by now

  13. 2 hours ago, Tyler Durden said:

So you do agree that at the start of this season the outcome was seen as a free hit. Which was always my original point.

Some of the "debate" on here recently has been centred still around the EFL doing us over, referees being wilfully biased against us, that's just pure paranoia not debate.

As I said before in my original post am sure Warne isn't a perfect football manager, in fact I guarantee it. That's why he's managing a League 1 side.

in regards to the free hit comments, goalposts can change with circumstances surely?

sitting with 5 players in pre season then the season is quite obviously a free hit. signing a lot of players on big money with short term deals (that most in this division would love to hav), and sacking of a manager that is long term and appointing one that is short term is changing of the goalposts?

expectations come with actions you view, i dont think DC has any intention of sticking around or wants a slow build in this league which makes short term results vital

For what it’s worth I think Paul Warne has done a good job. I think we’ll still scrape into the play offs, not that that’s too important this season. He’s built an excellent foundation with players not suited to his style or his own choices. Six or seven PW type players in the summer and we’ll rip it up next season imo!

agree i think he has done well overall.

there is lingering doubt in my mind over the long term success of warne though. the style which would come from 6 or 7 PW type players isn't an attractive process in my mind, it is the waiting game i suppose and hoping for the best. but on paper he is doing what is required (so far)

  15. 1 hour ago, Abu Derby said:

When we went in at half time at 0-0 I knew that we’d lose the game. I also think that applies to the players and the manager.

How we are seemingly unable to perform at the same level for 95 minutes will be the reason why we won’t be promoted this season.

strangely i said the same at half time, i thought i was just being negative but we have become painfully predictable and thats the worst thing a team can be, unless of course its being predictable about winning games

  16. 16 hours ago, Caerphilly Ram said:

When is a sensible time for that to happen? For me it’s a little while longer  yet.

yeah i agree caerphilly 100%, as i say clowes has huge credit in the bank

but a time will come when if we are lingering in this division the point becomes irrelevant

  17. 14 minutes ago, AndyB said:

Warne has a 4 year contract, until he has his own players he shouldn’t be judged.

Clowes won’t sack Warne anyway, his recent interview for Marketing Derby talked about 5 years to become an established Championship team.

I’m glad Clowes is the fan in charge of the club and not some of the clowns on here!

good luck convincing anyone from our fan base that we should spend 4 years in this division andyB.

its already feeling pretty crap down at this level, 4 years of it would be grim.

david clowes probably just setting low targets in public which is fair enough, you can bet any money and based on our recruitment this season & the speed which he could rid of LR his actions do not match up with that 5 year timescale

  18. for those saying it's nothing to do with fitness amongst the older players and that its a lazy excuse, i can tell you for certain it is true from my own experience. I played football at a good semi pro level when i was younger, as soon as i hit 31 recovery times would get longer and longer.

by the time i was 34 my body was in bits and recovering from games took an age. you could spend all week recovering from games & because you aren't training properly you naturally lose match fitness, so it makes every game harder to complete. that is how fitness affects older players, you could be as fit as you want but the issue is recovery times. sometimes you can hardly walk after games.

i know what i see, and i am seeing the same things amongst some of our players that i saw when i played football

  19. 22 minutes ago, Kathcairns said:

12 months ago we nearly didnt have a team to support. Clowes rescued us from extinction, so i for one am entirely grateful, so what he does is fine by me.

completely agree, clowes has huge credit in the bank.

but it does not mean i wont ignore questionable decisions. at some point we will have to move on from at least we have a team to support
