Can anybody who listened to the podcast illuminate the reasons why it didn’t end well for him here? I can’t remember anything in particular standing out (was he not getting in the team?).  Mind like a sieve nowadays, particularly about former players from more than a year ago. I always liked Johnny though.

After listening to the Undr The Cosh podcasts (or at least a large number of them) you understand that club's don't think twice about treating players like absolute s***. It's cut throat.

I guess we were no different in that period - I know at one point we had a fairly substantial 's*** list' at one point which was eluded to by Scott Malone.

  2. It's been confirmed that Windass has rejected a contract at Wednesday and will be moving on.

Rats off a sinking ship. First Vaulks to Oxford, now Windass. I assume Di'Shon Bernard moves on too.

Not an ideal start for a club that ended the season in high spirits.

  3. I like the link. He's a technically gifted player, coming off a good year and absolutely has the potential to improve and impact at the next level.

I would guess, however, that he's a little (well, significantly) undersized for Warne's profile in what he wants from wingers. There's not many players I'd have backed Peschisolido to mark on corners, but Dembele is one of them.

    Still, talented kid.

I would be surprised if we didn't get new investors, it seems like such a key time for it to happen.

I disagree, the landscape of the Championship has changed and Clowes absolutely has the money to be competitive. If he believes that he has the capacity both financially and directionally to take this club into the Premier League then why would he give up a percentage of his ownership, for another voice in the boardroom and someone potentially impacting his vision for the club - and hopefully his future payout from the success of his decisions?

I think he would consider investors, but I suspect that he also trusts himself to be able to achieve on his own at the club.

  5. Ryan Allsop has had a strange career. He was signed during the basket-case era, performed brilliantly for us, moved on and has been universally hated by supporters at the clubs he's been at since. Hull fans, in particular, were incensed that he was getting picked and looks as though the chairman used it as a reason to relieve Rosenior of his duties.

I'd hope for better, but just shows how fragile the career of a goalkeeper can be.

Decent signing for them - he has a decent playing record despite the myths about him being unfit

Myths? He's always struggled with injuries since he was coming through the academy. Max was a player, I know a lot of people in the academy were massively excited about coming through as a kid, never mind teenager, but from what I'm led to believe he really started to struggle with fitness/injuries from about 15/16 years of age.

I think he was around the first team in the 13/14 season yet didn't really breakthrough until after his loan move to Aberdeen 18/19 so 19/20 season for us. I believe a lot of that was due to the stunt in his progression due to the injuries and how his body stands up to the rigours of professional football. The 19/20 season is also the most minutes he has ever played in a league season (2281) which is roughly half of the overall minutes.

A lot of the time he may just not have been chosen to play, but equally the more minutes he plays so does the inevitably of the risk of injuries.  I do like Max as a player, though. I think he's an underrated defender but probably an overrated attacking fullback. He's a solid signing depending on a) how much they're paying him, assuming he would've been on good money at Sheff Utd and b) how often they can get him on the pitch.

Did we release him ? would we get a sell on fee ?

There is a bit of ambiguity with how he left, I think his dad stated that we didn't offer him terms. It was around the basket-case era so maybe, but anyone with a brain and eyes could see he was one of our best prospects.

Glad to see him doing well, but annoying nonetheless.

Max Lowe signing for Sheffield Wednesday.

That’s Derby, Forest, Sheff Utd and now Wednesday. Allergic to moving house, or more likely, physiotherapist.

Interesting. Solid signing for them, if he can stay fit.

  9. Vaulks, who won Wednesday's POTY award last season, has joined Oxford on a free transfer. He was credited with them keeping their Championship status against all odds. A good player, coming off arguably the best year of his career. Not sure who else was at the table for him, but wouldn't have been disappointed to see him sign for us - especially as we require a ton of central midfielders.

It leaves question marks over Wednesday too, obviously they may have set their stall higher but until those signings come to fruition then they've let their best performer from last season walk out the door - and Di'Shon Bernard who was one of the others could closely follow.

It might give Oxford a bit of hope to keeping hold of Murphy too.

I'd rather have scott loach as num 1 than that ex leeds scum farrell no way is he better than  Wildsmith and I'd hate it if a derby keeper did what he did to Duane Holmes

I highly doubt Peacock Farrell is the keeper we're after, by most metrics he's had a really poor year in Denmark.

I don't believe internet websites to be the Oracle when it comes to players salaries but I'd be amazed, and can't find any site that backs it up, if Bird and Sibley were on anything like £15k a week.

Obviously if they were that is good for us as it means there's a lot of leeway for next years signings but I'm afraid I just don't see it at all.

It was purely a guess based on the figures from the published accounts. We know that first-team wages (which didn't include Bird, Knight & Sibley significantly, as well as some other under-21 players) were around £8.6m and our overall wage bill was £17.2m for the entire club (170-something staff) for the 22/23 season when our squad was tiny.

I pointed out that Sunderland who had double the amount of staff and accounted for promotion bonuses had a smaller overall wage bill than us during their promotion season from League One.

It shows that someone employed by the club is earning very, very good money. Burton Albion's costs for their entire staff, including football players, was a little over £4m. We're showing almost £9m for staff costs minus our first-team, so I think it's fair to draw conclusions that those legacy contracts were incredible healthy - otherwise Stephen Pearce is earning an absolute WEDGE.

  12. I’d be tempted to see if we could get Brandon Aguilera on a permanent deal from Forest. He strikes me as a player with a very high ceiling and the sheer amount of bodies at Forest means he’ll struggle to get a proper look-in.

Probably more of a developmental player, but he does look like he could eventually make something of himself.

  13. I do think Osborn fits in the way we play, can cover CM and LWB positions and obviously has connections to the club. He’s coming off a season where he’s been fit for the majority too, albeit historically he’s found it difficult to stay healthy for the entire season.

I don’t mind signing a 30 year old on a free, who can cover multiple positions and was a boyhood fan. Injuries are a concern but if the numbers make sense then he’d be a good signing.

Plays in Denmark too that Thordason so could be one of the ones Warne went to watch.

Just on Sibley, I've heard he's 100% not staying. No idea where he's going.

From what I heard we offered him a one year deal on less money than he's on now.

Essentially the reason for that is because we've offered him a new deal, we'll be entitled to compensation because he's an academy player.

That’s incorrect - you have to offer terms equal or greater than the previous contract to be entitled to compensation.

I would believe it would have to match or exceed the entire value of his last contract - so whatever he earned over the four years, not per season.

  15. It sounds like us and Leicester missed out on 17-year-old full-back Rocco Friel who is going to join QPR. I think they've made some big investments into their academy recently, so it's quite a coup for them to win a prospect over two more established category one academies.

I think they're two at the moment, but planning to go cat one soon.

I cant understand the Tomori situation.

Serie A winner and runner up, proper defender, decent on the ball, pace to burn, I’ve always rated the lad.

    Southgate prefers Dunk! 🤔

My boss is an AC Milan season ticket holder - up until this season he has been a huge fan of Tomori but he's had a shocker of a year.

'He plays without brain' was the latest frustration of someone who watches every time he takes to the pitch. It sounds like he was reliant on the form, consistency of Kjaer and he's no longer in-form, nor consistent and Tomori has followed suit.

  17. Wish him nothing but the best - he seems like a really good pro and in his day he was one hell of a player. One of my favourite EFL players - he got stuck in at every level and was very good at it. We never saw that, obviously, but he still left Derby having done a good job overall.

Good move for him. I suspect it will be more coaching than playing, particularly based on the speed of his regression at the back end of last season. Nevertheless, he can still play a part in League One.

Sky are saying “ Due to the Man City court case the £900 mill deal with the EFL is in doubt”. Other Prem teams are worried about giving handouts to EFL teams in case they need money to compensate for Man C claims . Will this affect our budget for next season ?

I doubt it would've even been factored into next season's budgets to be honest.

It's not as though this is even a surprise, either. Man City were always going to challenge the charges based on the ambiguity on the majority, if not all, of them. The Premier League have made a rod for their own back and between the two - Man City, I suspect, are better equipped to fend off the challenges.

I equally suspect that if Mel had fought the amortisation charges that he would've won out - unless rules are clearly stated in black and white then you inevitably leave the door open and providing it's not an illegal accounting method then it's very difficult to sanction anyone. It sounds as though this is very much the case in City, albeit in a different way. The 'fair market value' line regarding sponsorship was always going to be tested. How on earth can the Premier League prove beyond doubt that the sponsorship deals paid to by City were above 'fair market value' when I suspect they just mirrored the going-rates at other top clubs around the world and possibly other sports.

I could be wrong, but I struggle to see how this ends up achieving anything other than a very minor performance related charge 4-6 points and potentially a fine.

If he's a former Palace defender (like that's a pinnacle for anyone), has he been released or is he playing somewhere even worse?

He's been released, however he was very highly thought of prior to injuries getting in the way. He was ever-present for the England age groups right up to u20. It's another young player with potentially a high ceiling, but has some adversity. John Jules was another.

Ideally, albeit without knowing the wages being asked for and our budget, these are the types of players that you want on the periphery of the core first-team. You want 22/23 year olds with ability to be the back-ups, not 31/32 year olds. Ferguson, however, is someone I expect can and will get a very good contract at this level due to his unrealised potential.

  20. Just caught up on the whole hour (well, 45 minutes) on the TalkSPORT app.

It's important that he takes opportunities like this and gets himself into the media to build a reputation. He comes across really well and a lot of the neutral supporters tend to really like him his approach.

He's clearly working really hard behind the scenes, it seems as though the recruitment team have done a lot of work and now is the important part of putting it all together. Obviously he was very coy on budgets, but sounds like he knows the scale of the task at hand and knows the ability of the players required.  I think it will be more competitive than people anticipate.
