Stokes out. That looked too high live to give out, ends up being umpire's call.

Umpire should never give it out if it’s umpires call. Batsman should get the benefit of the doubt

Anderson and Broad will be furious at this performance. We need miracle from one of them, I don’t think Leach will produce one

Disagree on Sibley, think he is a proper test opener of old.

Don’t object to at least one opener who occupies the crease and I know he’s done that on a few occasions. But his technique is so lop sided it’s hard to believe he’ll succeed in the longer term. He is truly horrible to watch

There's a fag paper between them, but CKR is the better fit in this system.

I do wonder what Rooney the manager could have achieved with Martin mind, to have both on board would certainly be an interesting watch.

CM has faded physically and CKR is still a fabulous athlete. However you might think they ranked say 3 years ago, there is now no comparison.

    Osaka really is brilliant.

Beat Brady in Australia final with fans in stadium.

    Good game .

    Looking forward to Men’s Final

Would love anyone but djoko to win but looks unlikely

Derek Underwood would be perfect right now!

Heard the C4commentators saying Underwood still holds several records for English players in India. Going back to speed of delivery, I would guess Underwood was pretty quick through the air. His run up was longer than Bumrah’s !

I know it must be tough in the bubble but playing without Buttler, Bairstow and Moeem seems suicidal. Pope can do better tho - his footwork is a match for Ashwin - so maybe there’s hope there. cant always rely on Root. If England do well next test it could be a memorable series

Just reading that Moeen is returning home.

Interesting to see whether they pick Bess, who's done nothing since being dropped or whether they gamble on Leach plus Root and add a third seamer?

We wouldn't have this issue if Stokes was bowling better.

Think Bess has to play. Not sure Root has the stamina as a bowler esp playing in a teapot.
Interesting to hear the experts saying that part of the problem is our spinners don’t bowl quickly enough to capitalise on these conditions (and Root is the quickest I think).

Not a Test standard pitch either.

Unfortunately Cpt Kohli has order two more of those. And he’s still furious he didn’t get one in the first test. It is to test cricket what mini golf is to Augusta. And as a result Root is our strike bowler !

Let’s hope he can still bat!

England struggling to avoid the follow on.

The depressing thing is that on a pitch like this we might well lose even if we win the toss. Wonder which journalist will be brave enough to say India must try to prepare a pitch suitable for a 5 day format.

    3-1?

Don't want to put the kibosh on him but Foakes is a really good keeper and a top order batsman. A worthy replacement.

Really hope Stone plays but at 1-0 up they might favour Woakes ' batting.

Yes fingers crossed for Foakes. In most eras he’d have a hatful of caps by now. Just possible they play Stone and the Indians hurriedly prepare a pitch that plays into his hands. Anything could happen

  10. 19 hours ago, Anag Ram said:

Or Broad and Stone. Stone is the like for like replacement in terms of pace.

They have stuck to their guns so far in selection and said they would alternate Broad and Anderson.

As you say Jimmy gets a rest. Cant wait for this one.
This rotation policy seems like self harm. Scary going without Buttler and Bairstow - you can normally rely on one of them for a score and they both have good (albeit white ball) experience in India. Our top order still unreliable and if Root fails we could be in a right pickle.
So a lot rests on Moeem. Lots of press saying it’s harsh to drop Bess after his 4 wkts haul but he was gifted a few and in the second he was pretty poor. Big qn is whether our spinners are good enough to win this series
Massive toss to win - and will India be able to manufacture a pitch that better suits them... ?

They are the worst team in history over the first half of a season though.

Maybe we should shake hands now and call it a draw?

As @One Chopwould say on the Abu Derby thread: “close the thread “

maybe Norwich next year? Covid has increased the gulf between the championship and the PL.  We can only hope ...

He’s on standby to be sold.

He should be in the team every week along with knight, bielik, jozwiak, CKR and Shinnie.

these are the best 6 attacking and midfield players

play 4141 or 4231 or 4132 or 433 I’m not bothered, but the above 6 players should be first choice.

buchanan, Byrne, Clarke.....there’s only two left to pick

Marshall or roos; wisdom or evans

    easy peasy

(and don’t go wasting money on ince).

    Liked your post

You include Sibley if you want more balance. You leave him out if you want more experience. WR has gone for the latter. Might be the better call in this league especially given our position. It’s working pretty well.

??? Frank don't bother coming in today.your services are no longer required ,we will send you a big fat cheque as compo towards your remains contract?

You’ve gotta think his next managerial job will be a big step down - don’t think he’s in a great position

Somewhat not overly surprised by that news. Especially if he used the treatment of Lawrence and Bennett and the inconsistency there against us

His clever lawyers would have had a field day over the inconsistency.
They might also have said: when you sacked him you thought he might never play again. So it’s disability discrimination
