What? Why on earth do we have to do that?

    - No more chopping and changing managers

    - Gives him the best chance and a long enough time to make it work

    - cheaper to not switch so regularly

    - it does at least  seem to work away (and we have been pants away for years)

    - at least we have stability

    - anything that comes after had to be better

  2. Having considered this we need a sixth option …. NEXT October.

Like it or not I think we have to “trust the process” and wait until next year to see if this horrible style of football really will work.  He needs two chances, the second one with solely his players.

That means we have to sacrifice our best young players - Bird, Sibley (he’s ruining Sibley and doesn’t care), Cashin and probably Thommo as well. We have to let Warne do all he can to get us up and when he doesn’t he needs to be removed as quickly as possible …. And when he does he also needs to be removed as soon as possible so that we can have a manager who will implement a style of play that is designed to get promotion from the Championship rather than League One.

I’m afraid I’m resigned to rubbish football for another 13 months. 🙁🙁🙁

A number of people in this thread have been crying out for NML to go off as he doesn’t seem at it today, so Warne does that very thing and you want to criticise that as well?

Not read the rest of the thread. My view is that warne is not attacking enough at home … this is just an example.

Like this ref. Cashin penalised but not booked for a foul in midfield, their player demands she book him and gets booked himself 😂

    Sibley on for NmL

Winger off for a winger. Nice one Warne. Don’t be too attacking … at home … against mid table …. With 30,000 fans behind you.

    FFS.

  5. Don’t like it. Putting up with it as a theory that it’s the best way out of the division. We have to give it another year at least.

I hope we continue to invest in the youth set up at least so that we might have a bit of potential coming through when Warne leaves/is fired next year….….

…. unless of course we get promoted playing Warne ball. Here’s hoping.

  6. I’m a secret fan of Thommo. Ever since that legendary turn leading to Plange’s goal against Fulham. I wonder if he’s the hidden gem amongst the other youth players that have had varying degrees of success? Bird, knight, sibley, cashin all been good … perhaps Thommo is the chosen one though? With his height and industry he reminds me of that ex Liverpool player David Thompson. Needs a run in the team and a manager to back him. But perhaps the answer was in front of us all this time.

Liam Thompson … the second coming?

  7. Warne got relegated with Rotherham and then promoted. So he’s gone from failure to success in the past.

He’s inherited a squad with no depth, a threadbare team and a dreadful youth team.

They needed  a total rebuild and it will take time.

I don’t like his tactics at home. He hasn’t proven to me that he has any kind of coherent plan B, home or  away.

However, I don’t want him out. I want us to give him time to sort it out and that could be at least a year from now. But if that’s what it needs it is what it is.

I don’t think anyone out there would do the job better.

Unfortunately we are saddled with him. So we just have to make the most of it and try and cheer the team on as much as we can.

I think he is now more wary of Ed Dawes. He was giving his reasoning in his usual quick delivery style, said one thing in the middle of a long sentence and Dawes was on it like a viper. Straight there, probing and expanding. I’m sure Warne was a bit taken aback by that and will now measure what he says. He was only throwing in possible reasons for a poor performance but Dawes made it into an actual issue. I’d guess he won’t get the chance to do that again.

Ed did nothing wrong. Warne made a mistake. He should be a man about it, say he’s apologised to the player and get on with it. Certainly not hold it against the interviewer as you have alluded.

But….and bear with me for this one….what if he stubbornly holds onto his way and it gets the results? I’m not saying he will or won’t, but seems odd to state ultimatums already.

We didn’t pack the midfield yesterday, we pretty much bypassed it for large chunks of the game and won. It wasn’t pretty but it did the job. So perhaps it’s less simple than you suggest? Or a different simple?

I think that’s exactly what he’ll do. But I can’t see these tactics getting a team like us automatic promotion. Maybe I’m wrong. I just think against decent teams at home we need to be more creative. Saying that. Perhaps it will be enough for play offs and perhaps we can sneak up with warne one way or another. Fingers crossed!!

  10. Big test for him for this weeks home game.

For me, the way he sets up is crucial. If he persists with two up front, wing backs and bird as his most attacking midfielder then it will be clear that he hasn’t learnt and is stubbornly holding on to the believe that his way is the correct way, home or away. If we see three forward men or the removal of at least one of bird, hourihane and smith in midfield. That’s when I will perhaps have more belief that we can finish in the top 3 or 4.

Attack at home. Pack the midfield away. It’s that simple.

  11. Post match yesterday was it me or was Paul Warne seemingly going through the motions of being “pleased”. It looked to me as if he was pretty ashamed and embarrassed about how he’s acted over the last week and his reaction was to be very coy over what should have been a great moment for him.

Maybe I’m reading too much into it.
