Knight (and any other youth players that were in the books) would have been valued at £0, as we never paid anything to acquire him.  That £3.3m would have been almost entirely the remainder of Bielik’s value.

I’m not sure about this. Bielik is no longer on our books and there is no disposals. He could have been fully impaired during the year of course. But that would mean his valuation is less than the full year impairment, so a lot less than £3.3m. I am struggling to work out where the £3.3m has come from. The only players left seem to be Bird and Sibley. Both may have had a signing bonus which could have been capitalised. An alternative is that certain contracts were revalued during the acquisition and that didn’t include knight but did include Bird and Sibley.

We could do with a little more detail tbh.

This might be true but given that there is no “disposals” in the year it might suggest that knight didn’t have a carrying value in the accounts. Hard to be sure without the details but perhaps knight had a £nil carrying value.

  3. Is anyone else struggling with Hourihane?

He has a lot going for him. From 16 yards out I would back him to score every time. He scored a great goal last night vs Burton and another one in December against Lincoln.

He seems solid enough in our midfield and I’m sure he does the off the field stuff (whatever that is) really well. Other player speak well of him too.

But as a fan, I can’t help but feel like he’s the friend that is making-do-with-you-until-something-better-comes-along.

There are some players in the team that are bred through our academy at Derby and you know they want to play for us. There’s others that show that much commitment in games that you know they really want to play for the shirt … and then there’s Conor. I really want to like him and for him to be part of the team but I just have this nagging doubt that he’s not really one of us.

It’s such a shame. Maybe his heart was at Villa all along.

Sorry Conor. I feel bad, I’m just saying it as i see it.

  4. I recall a player called Calum ball. He scored once when I watched the rams at home to West Ham.

In the charts at the time was the song “Cannon Ball” by Damien Rice.

When he scored I wished momentarily for the crowd to sing “he floats like Calum Ball.

I think he went on to score only two or three more times and sadly went on to a fairly mediocre career. The song never caught on.

    Ah well. Great song though.

xG never has been and never will be a valuable statistic.

We scored a goal and 9 times out of 10 the deflected shot from Fornah goes in, so how does that translate to 0.7 expected goals?

If your statement is right then 0.7 is too low. 9/10 = 0.9 goals. Then you need to add however-many for the goal we actually scored. So, following your statement the expected goals is >0.9 and not 0.7.

In conclusion either your statement is wrong and 9 out of 10 times Fornah’s deflected shot doesn’t actually go in or xG is incorrect.

    Take your pick.

  6. I didn’t know B4. In fact I know very little about him. I just knew from his posts about his loyalty and his positivity towards the rams. Even when the chips were down he always posted something positive or even started positive threads. It made me smile.

He might be almost a stranger to me, but I thought he was great.

Given how up and down we have been this season, I just wonder if today’s result was “meant to be” as a tribute to B4.

    My condolences to his family.

I've always had a view that the administration card was played too easily. Weston was an U21 singing, so I won't include him in the academy discussion. Based on year of being a 1st year scholar:
    2021
Played last night: Fapetu (CM) and DRobinson (CM, but played CB last night)
Lost during admin: Ryan (CB) to Brighton) and Eze (AM/W)
    2022
Played last night: Cox (CB), DBrown (CF), Wheeldon (CF)
Lost during admin: Kellyman (AM/W), Sharpe (RW), Scanlon (AM)
    2023
Played last night: Osayande (CB), Allen (CM)
    Lost during admin: Kaba (CF)

Out of all of those who have left, only Kellyman would be closer to the first team than DRobinson.
In defence, Ryan would have been about on par with Cox (despite being a year older) and with no change to Osayande's game time in the U18s.
On the wings, there isn't much between Richards, Davidson, and Sharpe.
In midfield, there isn't much between Fapetu is further ahead in his development than Eze, Scanlon, and Allen, with him being the only one playing regularly at U21 level. I would also pick Allen as the one with the most potential.
Upfront, DBrown is the pick of the bunch, with neither Wheeldon nor Kaba playing U21 football on a regular basis.

We also lost Williams (2020 intake), who was on the fringes of the first team , as well as Buchanan (2017), Ebosele (2018), and Ebiowei (2021) who all left when their contracts expired. However, none would have been part of the U18/U21 squad at this point in time.

The goal aside, Collins was poor in that first half too as the balance wasn't there. It was no surprise Collins looked better in the 2nd half when paired with someone who naturally plays a bit deeper. It's a sham Brown hasn't had the opportunity in the first team to play with someone other than Collins.

Is this a full list of players lost during admin? I’m thinking sure Delap was one and that guy that went to Liverpool, Kade Gordon was it?
