Anybody remember the away game at Bradford around 1984? About 15 of us were in the back of a transit van, no windows, complete darkness. Went in a very hostile pub and left. Got to the ground and were pelted with concrete chunks from the crumbling terrace. Rams fans responded in kind and the slabs rained back and forth until kick off. My mate got smacked straight in the ear, blood everywhere. No sympathy from cops or stewards. The ref blows for kick off. Huge chant of DLF from the main home stand and around a hundred Derby stand up gesturing to a group next to them. Another chant goes up, 'Leeds Leeds Leeds'...A pre arranged scrap Then 90 minutes of all out fighting. Graham Richards apparently described the chaos as 'like a scene from Zulu dawn'.. Can't remember the game or the score.

At Moseley Folk and Arts Festival this year. Highlights last night, The Wonderstuff and The Waterboys. Actually cried tears of joy. Can't beat live music ❤️

Depends how old you classify kids as.
When I was young and went away on holiday to Cornwall especially children weren't allowed in certain locals pubs I think due to them not wanting to curb the industrial language when they were drinking in there.
Of course there's hardly as such thing as a traditional pub anymore as lots of places now trade as restaurants and eateries.
There's loads of trad pubs and they're thankfully brat free. My complaint which prompted the thread was beng in a craft beer bar with no food on offer and very loud music. Why the feck would you strap a babby to you and keep the poor fella in there when he was clearly distressed? By the way, they're still here.

Yes or No? For me, a big fat No. Just had my beer ruined by a hipster Dad with his baby strapped to him bawling constantly. Aaaggghhh!!

Hull City away in the early 1980s, the old Third Division I think. Through the Junior Rams me and a mate won two tickets to the game and free coach travel. So far so good...until we got to the game. The away end was on the opposite side of the ground! We were housed in a stand surrounded by Humberside's finest. At 2-0 to the Rams a thin line of stewards and police formed a barrier around the 50 or so of us. It didn't stop the bottles, coins and other items raining down on us. We were saved by a second half capitulation which resulted in an injury time winner for the Tigers. While the locals were celebrating we legged it past the Grandways supermarket and to safety.

But the place was falling down and the plans for rebuilding was for about a 22,000 crowd. It was hemmed in on Shaftesbury Crescent by houses and Ley’s on the other side. It was designed originally in the centre of a good working class area when workers lived near to their works and few had cars. But by the 90s it had outlived its location. Pity but had to happen sooner or later.
Maybe they were forward thinking to the 21-22 season when 22,000 would be more than big enough for our current match day attendances...

Was never viable though was it.
Apparently not. Although, I do remember the plans for the BBG rebuild in the local press/programmes so it was planned.

Amazing memories, a real football ground….worst decision the club has ever made was to leave there and the abomination they did of “preserving” the place is frankly an absolute disgrace.
Never felt that Pride Park was 'home'. First BBG game was Hinton's testimonial in 1976. The Rams lost to an England '11' but the atmosphere was magical. Totally agree about moving. Wish we'd stayed and upgraded.

Had a week of City beer trips with varying degrees of enjoyment. In terms of beer quality and variety -
1. Birmingham
2. Nottingham
3. Liverpool
4. Derby
5. Manchester

What's put you off Bearwood? Is this a complete divorce or trial separation? I hope you both come back at some stage.
Hi mate. A combination of factors, finance, 90 Mile round trip, Mrs works Saturdays and a general loss of interest over the last few years. Not sure if it's a divorce or separation.

Out of my Rams social group, roughly 12 of us, 4 haven't/won't renew including me and the other half and we're not attending Saturday. If repeated across the fanbase I cant see more than around 25,000 attending.

LIke Steve Bloomer did?
Marching on Together etc..
Bloomer was recorded and made by a Derby fan, played at the games and over time we sang it. So yes.

Guess the attendance anyone? I'm going for 24,467

I was thinking of going to the Forest game but now I've heard about all this racket going on in the ground I'm not bothering. I prefer the traditional Pride Park atmosphere of listening to the players conversations, seats clattering on the 30th minute as people head to the concourse and the non stop pinging of phone notifications.

Live near Coventry and there's a lot of great stuff going on over there at the moment. It's actually impressive and Derby could do worse than to go for it. As for Coventry, yup it's a cheap and easy shot but The Specials, Two Tone, Delia Derbyshire, culturally diverse city. Look, I get it, sixties planning eyesore but there's enough there to make a pretty decent event out of and - to date - they're doing a pretty good job, even in all of what has been thrown at them.
People who slag off cities like Coventry are people who haven't been there.

The behaviour of our own fans has stopped me going to away games. Too many Bamfords these days following the Rams away.
-
I will always follow the club but I've been losing interest in the match day 'experience' for a while now. I enjoyed the Lampard season and that inspired me to keep going and renew my season ticket. The covid break from the routine combined with a lack of finance has meant that I won't be going to the games again any time soon. I've been a season ticket holder for yonks. Not living local to Derby is also a factor.
The cack football doesn't put me off - I started going to the games in the late 70s and early 80s!! Went to loads of away games in the old third division and I remember the day we were 15 minutes from going bust. The 11 point season didn't put me off either. I think it's modern football generally that I don't feel part of and that makes me sad.

Stories of being in the ‘Home’ End

Not the 'home end' but I take great pride in avoiding the Police escort at Notts Station. We showed our tickets to a cop (Birmingham to Nottingham) and our Birmingham Camra memberships and pleaded ignorance about any football related activity. Said we were doing research for Brum camra and were looking for the Vat and Fiddle pub. A kindly female police officer apologised for the police presence and guided us to said pub, explaining that there was 'a big game on'. We get in the pub, jam packed with red dogs, listen to them whining, have a few beers and a cob and then walk to the ground with the dogs. Rams win 3-1. One of my fave ever away days.
