Well, with Saudi Arabia seemingly set to be a shoe-in for the 2034 World Cup, they'll probably finance a ceremonial destruction of a couple of iconic towers as an opening ceremony.

Miss Congeniality I cannot believe that I sat through the whole thing. OK, on reflection I didn't - I spent some time mixing and steaming the Christmas pudding, made a nice potato salad and drank a couple of beers. I did chuckle a couple of times. 4/10.

Probably Noordwijk in the spring - the Memsahib loves Keukenhof. Also, either Brugge or Gent in the summer. Dates to be confirmed when Derbyshire's fixtures come out.
-
...That's just a bit of gossip.

Apparently, we had precisely zero trick-or-treaters this year (the Memsahib was at home whilst I was wallowing in the glory of our victory at PPS). Looks like I'm porking out on Haribos for the next few weeks.

A very decent performance and an enjoyable night. Nothing else to say really. -
This thread got very silly very quickly.

Totally worth it. Every time they go on sale, I buy a few boxes. They will have them for 3 or 4 weeks, and every visit, I buy a couple more boxes. They will last me until the next time they go on sale. At one time, it was just Fathers' Day, but now it's 3 or 4 times a year they re-stock. The other Belgian beers they have in stock at the moment are pretty good too - Leute Bokbier is a lovely malty brew, and Cuvee Des Trolls is a nice hoppy offering.

My first thought, as a (lapsed) brewer, is that it would 'de-skill' the science of brewing. I mistrust anyone who says "It will make beers consistent..." etc. That's what the large multi-nationals tried in the 1960's and 70's. Their mantra was "Go anywhere in the country and drink a pint that tastes just like you were in your local". They sold 'chemical' beer - witness Whitbread Trophy, Double Diamond, Worthington E etc. They were virtually the same beer. One good thing came out of large brewery standardisation - the rise of CAMRA.

From the inception of the Football League in 1888, there was football on Christmas Day. Teams used to play a 'Christmas Double', i.e. the same team home and away over the Christmas period. The last Football League game played on December 25 was as recent as 1965.

The quality of stitching just isn't what it used to be, is it?

If I dream, I certainly don't remember them. I understand that there are a number of theories as to why we dream, but I'm completely unaware as to whether I do or not.

Can't be an England batter then.

Certainly that's the way the Sunday Express are leaning (no surprise there). 'Free' speech and the right to demonstrate should be abolished according to their hysterical headline this evening. It's a slippery slope - and they are oiling the runners of the sled.

I think that Poe would be pleased. It's delightfully macabre. Great performance by the cat.

And they did - easily.

Warne's problem, as I see it, is that his preferred style of football is primarily physical, and in order for that style to be successful, he requires half a dozen brick outhouses in the side. Brick outhouses we don't have.

Way to thank the man who single-handedly saved our club. Wouldn't you be happier at the other end of Brian Clough Way?.

The first volcanic eruption on the Reykjanes peninsula in Iceland for 800 years started a few hours ago. This will be a 'pretty' eruption - no nasty glaciers to cause a phreatic explosion. What is known as a 'tourism eruption' - only problem is, there are no tourists. If only it had waited a year - we were planning an Icelandic cruise for 2022. The only down-side at the moment is that the prevailing winds are blowing the gases straight to Reykjavik. Look after yourself, @ramit Live streaming webcam
