  1. As I watched us collapse from a decent first half to a turgid 2nd last night I thought to myself that the Charlton team were exactly the sort of squad that Warne would wet himself to manage - a group (May excepted) of big, strong, atheltic players that ran all night and got in our faces. Unfortunately, Warne is trying to get our group of players to do the same and they're simply not up to it - whether that's physical limitations, type of player or simply that they're struggling with the intensity demanded and are close to burn out. Sacking him now would be a crazy move, but promoted or not at the end of the season, Clowes needs to have a heard-headed review of the manager and decide whether he's up to the job in hand - my opinion is that he's a small club manager who is way out of his depth with the level of expectation at PP - and in the Championship, his obvious limitations will only be more apparent.....
  2. In the 'where will we finish' thread, I predicted that we'd be 8th which may have been a tad pessimistic, but it was for precisely that reason - we've got a number of older players or players that have had injuries and it seems that Warne's all action, never stop running approach is too much for them - surely the manager has to recognise players that are struggling and take them out of the team....that's part of his job.
  3. Well he's been back for two games and we've lost both - that can't be a coincidence.....bring back Dom 😉
  4. Disabled badge folk have also been parking on Royal Way between the exit to the Arena car park and the roundabout with the Audi dealership - that is dangerous as it's pushing cars leaving the car park further out into the road where there are people walking....only a matter of time....
  5. This is descending into politics, but the suggestion was that the SNP were far more interested in causing issues for Labour than getting their motion through - ask yourself which party is the greatest threat to SNP seats at the next election? - and then ask yourself why Starmer was so set on obstructiong their plan (whether that involved applying pressure to the Speaker or not)? The slaughter in Palestine was very much secondary to the domestic politics of the opposition parties on the day.....
  6. Even more ridiculous is an Astra for close to £40K and a Mini for over £50K - those are the manufacturers that will realy suffer if BYD undercut them....
  7. That's absolutely not what I want - just asking for a basic level of competence when describing what's happening on the pitch - preferably unhindered by mindless drivel and showing off.....as I've said before, a radio commentator should be able to explain what's happening by painting pictures for the listener - Dawes couldn't paint a shed door....
  8. After being highly critical of his commentating, I thought I should give him a chance and see if he’d used his absence from the airwaves to possibly listen to other commentators in order to improve - and to be fair, there were some improvements. More often than not, I had a rough idea of where the ball was on the pitch (something lacking during his previous tenure), and I don’t think he mentioned anything about pigeons or trains (though I only started listening at kick off, didn’t listen at halftime and switched off at the final whistle so maybe he filled other parts of the program with his usual obsessions. What I struggled with (other than the depressing tone of the whole affair with him and Eric trying to outdo each other in fault finding) is his utter obsession with proving how clever he is because he’s managed to qualify as a ref - several times he banged on about one of the Barnsley players having illegal shin pads - he kept putting himself in the place of the ref (“Don’t you talk to my assistant like that”) and tried to show off about his knowledge of the rules (“Most people don’t know that rule”) - geez it was tedious. He’s like the boring bloke in the pub that you try to avoid… i wish him well in his recovery from whatever struggles he’s been going through but I can’t help thinking he’d be better served by joining his lad in the away end (has another RD football commentator ever felt the need to mention their family during a game?), possibly dressed in his full referee’s kit and waving cards towards the pitch. Dom (and dare I say the listeners) have been harshly treated by his return…
  9. Sky have just shown a graphic of number of goals scored in the final 15 minutes - we’re second to Liverpool….
  10. Bit disappointed there isn't a bigger discount for 40+ years 😄
  11. Details of prices and buying periods on the website: https://www.dcfc.co.uk/news/2024/02/202425-season-ticket-details-confirmed
  12. I finished it last night - thoroughly underwhelming in the end. Basically 4 episodes of not a huge amount happening after the initial excitement and then rush about for the final two trying to tidy it all up - as for Jodie, she was the least convincing actor in the whole thing. Acted off the screen by Fiona Shaw - and she was only in it for about 20 minutes in the whole series.... Perhaps if I hadn't previously watched Fortitude I may have warmed to it more - but True Detective was so second rate in comparison....
  13. There's been a seismic improvement. With Dom I at least know which end of the pitch the ball is at and what the team are trying to do - that's frequently a mystery with Dawes. There have been occasions with Dawes when a goal has been scored and I haven't even known whether it was for us or the opposition. I don't wish Ed any ill at all - I just want a level of basic competence on the commentary that he simply doesn't possess.....and that's before he witters on about pigeons, trains or what the referee should have done in any particular situation. If they put him back on commentary I'll be back to relying on score flashes on my phone or updates from the good folk on here....
  14. Hope they let Dom continue on commentary and keep Dawes to the phone-in - there's been a vast improvement in quality of the matchday coverage since Dawes left.....
  15. Scarey figures from QPR - they've lost money every year since 1996......and despite spending nothing on signings last year, they managed to lose over £20M. You'd think that clubs would learn from what happened to us but I guess some just think it won't happen to them....
  16. He wouldn't be a loan and so the money would have to come out of the 'permanent' pot - plus the EFL like to let us know who's in charge and throw their weight around....
  17. It may be nothing to do with your height....
  18. Brum have issued a statement that "Tony Mowbray requires medical treatment which means he will be temporarily stepping away from the on-site management of the Club for a period of approximately six to eight weeks"....
  19. You’ll hate Docs when they’re brand new - they’ll rip your heels to pieces until they’re broken in - then they’ll be super comfy for years to come…
  20. We are under restrictions until the end of the season - that's not changed. Quite clearly part of those restrictions involve clearing signings with the pond-life running the EFL before we can formally sign anyone.
  21. Load of cobblers to satisfy the 'Football Manager' fanboys - this chap can explain it far better than me....
  22. Surely King Dong should be reserved for one of those old-fashioned pull systems with a bell at the end?
