CLOUGH1971-72 reacted to CornwallRam in The Home Kit Colour Debate
If Jim's team had played in blue and white, we'd have beaten West Ham, qualified for Europe, doubled our income and had enough cash to maintain our top 6 status into the Premier League era.
We didn't build on our post war success and gradually dropped into the 3rd Division North because we were carrying the albatross of black shorts.
Brian Clough quickly realised that his genius was being limited by those shorts and changed them. Suddenly we were the best in the country and only a bent ref away from being the best in Europe.
Do we want Colin Todd, Archie Gemmil and Kevin Hector or Claude Davies, Bob Malcolm and Robert Earnshaw?

White, Blue, White with Red numbers all day long for me. Childhood memories. Two league championships, Charlie’s hatrick against Real Madrid, Bruce’s free kick against Newcastle in the FA Cup and Franny’s ‘just look at his face’ goal. All in the White, Blue, White with Red numbers. No contest. 🐏🐏🐏

We won the top division twice with white shirts, red numbers, blue shorts and white socks.
Why is there any doubt?

Bizarre start to the thread. Only two people so far have got the answer correct.
How can anyone opt for Maxwell black over Clough navy blue?

Another one is Derby 5 Arsenal 0 during the Brian Clough era, when Colin Todd put Charlie Gorge in his back pocket. A brilliant match.

Old Big ‘Ed
Dave Mackay
Arthur Cox
The Bald Eagle
Billy Davies
Steve Mac
George Burley

Since 2001-02 when I got my first season ticket:
1. Jewell (second half of 2007-08 and first half of 2008-09)
2. Gregory (2002-03)
3. Brown (2005-06)
4. Cocu + Rooney (particularly the end of 2019-20 and all of 2020-21)
5. Clough (particularly second half of 2010-11 and much of 2011-12)
Those spells stand out as being the most depressing times to be a Derby fan in my match going time.
I don’t think you can really put Pearson and Clement here as Mel had the patience and longevity of a three year old watching an opera.
Neither finished the season, so who knows what would have happened had both been given the time to reverse poor runs that Lampard and Rowett were granted, for instance?

It includes a promotion and it wasn't that bad here. As for 'impact' on the side, well we managed to throw away a Play off spot after looking so good! Your memory isn't as good as you'd like.

Really? As is often seen the run-in to the end of a season doesn't always go smoothly! For me he managed to get them over the line after being ditched by Clough Jnr.

He has always said the players that got bought were not the ones he wanted. That because Gadsby was looking to sell the club they didn't want to spend the kind of money we needed to spend to have a chance of staying up.
Davies barely played Earnshaw and do you really think he went into pre-season meetings demanding Eddie Lewis?
It was something of a miracle we went up with the squad we had - players like Leacock and McEverley started the play-off final. We needed massive investment to have any sort of a chance and it didn't happen.
Davies is not a likeable man and he didn't handle that season well. His limitations as a tactician and man manager were clear for all to see. But it's ridiculous to put all the blame for that season - and those signings - on him, while apparently giving him no credit for getting us promoted in the first place.

Billie Davies is the only manager to have got us promoted in the last 27 years… he may have left an awful legacy, but his achievement is undeniable.
