You and your fellow youth football experts may think that, yet the players we produce don't seem to hit the heights people claim that they will.

You are wasting your time. There are a number of people on here that take criticism of the academy as a personal insult. The academy produces a lot of mid tier average to good championship or below players. It produces virtually none who will ever be capable of playing in the premier league on a regular basis. As far as I'm concerned we haven't produced anyone as good as Will Hughes, despite the vast investment we've put in since then, and even he hasn't gone on to what we thought he would. The academy does give us a solid number of players who will be able to get us back to the championship one day and a few who might even make us a couple of mill when we sell, but i've seen little evidence that we will be able to produce anyone who can take us to the next level. Even if we did they'd be immediately poached for peanuts.

Some interesting stuff in here from their fans' forum.

Top 6 is the expectation. And, if they sell 30K season tickets, the price will get lowered to £400.

30k season tickets doesnt seem likely given their attendance last year. I know theyre in a higher league now, but still

Tom Ince is leaving Reading. Watford have activated his £500K release clause.

Thats a strange one. I know he had an alright season last year and he did well for us, but didnt think a team going for promotion would go for him. £50k is a steal though

depends how much he wants to spend or what wages are stuck

they could easily offload their crap to a serie a club

i wish we would do the same to be honest, if you cant beat them join them its clear the authorities have no interest in enforcing any kind of rules against mutli club ownership

We need a much richer owner if we want to do the same thing. Seems like the best way to avoid ffp though. The EFL certainly dont seem to have an issue with it

okay know it all, he says he wants to RETURN to the club that brought him through the academy nothing to do with playing for notts because he supports them

i still stand by he is a forest fan, nothing about that statement changed my opinion on it. if anything it made me more sure.

In McGoldricks own words about his move to Notts County:

"This is the team I support and I’m a Nottingham boy so it was perfect in that sense but also I’ve looked at the club and the direction they’re going in with the football they play and the buzz around the place."

Look we can all tell you are upset, but lets not be silly shall we. He doesnt have to burn a forest shirt in front of us to prove he is truly a notts county fan.

You would do exactly the same if derby county came knocking

  6. I'm going tomorrow to see evanescence and bring me the horizon, but it seems way louder than usual. I can usually hear it from chellaston if the winds blowing right, but i can hear it as clearly as if i was stood next ti the stage at the moment!

Am sure we have our own supporters whom feel it necessary to join a rivals fans forum solely to poke fun at their predicament.

Would be amazed if no one supporting DCFC has done that already on Festers or Dirties fans forums and hasn't happened on the LTLF forum as disappointingly there's nothing actually to rub their noses in.

Not saying that's right btw or acceptable behaviour but what's sauce for the goose and all that.

@Crewton is famous on the LTLF forum!

The issue is that they said on the play off final that championship football is worth around £8/9m more per year than league one.

£8/9m is a lot of money now (since the lower league covid reset where teams aren’t spunking silly money)

I suspect that with clever recruitment, sustainability is easier within the championship due to the extra breathing room.

I know its a while ago now and things have changed a bit, but the squad that Nigel built when he was here was built on a shoestring and he managed to bring in some of my favourite players of the past 20 years. I think you are right and if we can get our recruitment sorted I can't see any reason why we need to spend ourselves into oblivion like we did under the last administration.

Whilst I'm more than happy to read/listen to/accept/respect your opinion, I'm not sure I'm comfortable with your reference of "Trying to make it sound worse...".  As if I have some sort of agenda?  🤷‍♂️
I can assure you I wasn't trying to do anything other than explaining my own thought process behind my opinion... and I hasten to add, my opinion on this subject is far from strong... no more than a brief chat with mates, purely because it's on topic.  I'm on no soap box here, for the record!

But I do hold the belief that both 45% and 55% (respectively) being described as "extremely close" is a tad far-fetched.  Apologies if that upsets/offends you in anyway.  🐏🍻

You dont need to post this same sort of message everytime someone responds to you in a non jokey manner. Its a discussion board. If you dont want to discuss just leave it there. Think the only responses i ever get from you are variations on this same post.

I have no idea why you are trying to make out once again that nobody ever got close to our points total by once again quoting your percentages, but crack on if you can't see why that is intentionally misleading.

  10. 7 hours ago, Mucker1884 said:

I think there's every chance of "Someone performing poorly".  But it's just how poorly that is the crux of the matter.

So far, we've had a decade and a half.

In that time, Huddersfield have got 16 (in 18/19) which equates to being c. 45% better than us.
Also in that period, Villa got 17 (in 15/16), which is c. 55% better.

Percentage-wise, they weren't particularly close at all!

So 2 teams got extremely close to our points total and people still dont think it will ever happen in the decades of premier league football still to come. Trying to make it sound worse with percentages doesnt change how close they got!

We could perhaps spiv a couple of back to back promotions and have a go at it ourselves.

Field a 39 year old didzy and JC as our 2-pronged strike force we could go for fewest goals anorl.....🤣

Do we still hold the record for the longest winless streak in the Prem? I think we can still extend that one if we ever get back up, so may as well give all our old records another go 😂

    18 hours ago, David said:

Sunderland fans probably said the same. Even managed to beat their own record.

3 wins and a draw for an ill prepared club isn't unthinkable.

You also have the possibility of points deductions, the PL and EFL could announce they will sync up punishments for failing P&S.

Not like we have just 5 seasons left of Premier League football and that's it, all clubs fold and football is no more.

People who say it will never happen baffle me. There are going to be decades and decades and decades more of Premier League seasons. Its ridiculous to believe there is zero chance of someone performing poorly in all that time

Is there any chance Leicester will finally get a just punishment for cheating when they were last in the Championship now?

Its funny seeing Leicester fans in the crowd looking all sad, feeling sorry for themselves. If we had the amount of luck they've had in recent seasons I'd be laughing

Id say zero chance. They paid a piddly little fine to the EFL and id guess that means case closed as far as those excellent administrators are concerned

  13. 1 hour ago, Andicis said:

Ridiculous statement to make. I'm sure they will sell their stars for good money, but the reason they are here is because their recruitment has been poor. The championship is a tough league, it's fairly dumb to say they'll get over 100 points.

They do have some good players - tielemans, barnes, maddison, etc, but i think tielemans leaves for free now as his contract expired. They'll probably get a bit more for maddison with him being English, but will they reinvest that money particularly well? I'd agree with you and guess probably not if recent years have been anything to go by

The Season had finished. Wigan had been relegated. The players didn't want to stay for a League One campaign (see the actions of Byrne when we went down) and Wigan wanted / needed the players off the wage bill. We obliged. Not really sure how that's 'shitty' tbh.

When they took Shinnie it was mid season, we didn't want rid of him, nor did he want to leave.

I'm not sure I'd call their actions shitty either tbh, but it's not really a like-for-like situation.

We took advantage of their situation and got 2 players on the cheap. Same as they did with Shinnie. Try and twist it however you like, but our actions were s****y. I have no issue with what they did with shinnie though - you reap what you sow

  15. 14 hours ago, KBB said:

Am I remembering correctly that when shinnie went to them during our fire sale admin phase their owner/chairman gave it the bigun to their fans about how they got him for 50k and picked our pocket. Could be wrong.

We took two players off them for virtually nothing when they went into admin. If i was him i'd have done the same if i'd got one back over on our s****y dealings

And what would we have done in the last 3 years whilst we’ve not been able to sign anybody. The academy has kept the club going.

We get back on our feet, back in the Championship and the academy will flourish again.

I believe Wassall going is the best thing. He’s been there 14 years and a fresh pair of eyes will be great.

You dont need to spend millions every year to have a few average players ready on the off chance that we might be in financial trouble again at some point in the future.

I don't really think it was ever flourishing - not during Mels tenure anyway. You are welcome to your opinion, but I can't see any way in which the academy benefits us at the moment, especially at league one level. For me the huge investment can be better spent elsewhere. Maybe if we actually sold some youth players for significant fees occasionally I could see a benefit, but we never do and even in the Championship we wont be able to stop anyone good leaving for nothing.

Its true , if u compare what our accademy has produced to forests theres dicks all over ours…. And theyre not cat 1

They are Category 1 though. Don't disagree that they are producing better players though.

For me the academy is a waste of money - not bothered what we do with it. We've produced some players who are alright in the last couple of years, but every time we produce a real gem we lose them for a handful of magic beans regardless of whether we want to keep them or not. We've just lost anyone who was any good when we faced financial oblivion, but it was the same before that and it is the same after that - if a Prem club wants someone we can't stop them taking them for a massive discount.
